Our fabrics are imported from Europe. They are high quality fabrics. We try to help you as much as you need or want us to help you. We can help suggesting what type fabric for the style you want, we can also help calculating how much yardage you need. We have magazines for you to look at and give you an idea if you don’t already have one. We really want everyone to feel at home when they come to the store, and that they had a pleasant experience.
History
Established in 1962.
When Isa came with her family to Miami from Cuba in 1961, she didn’t speak English, knew nothing of business and had more of an artist’s instinct for fabrics than knowledge of them. Looking for a means to make a new life, she packed a few samples into a suitcase and began selling door to door. Her initial investment capital was $ 40. After two years of ringing doorbells, Isa opened her first shop in 1964 on Biscayne Boulevard. In 1971, she made her first buying trip to Europe. «God was there with me,» she says simply. She had never been to Europe or traveled by herself, and her budget was so tight that, in Paris, she ate every day at the same place because it was possible to get a meal for $ 4. Isa’s customers come from all over the western hemisphere. Recently, a woman in Peru lost the scrap of paper on which she’d jotted the name and address of the special Miami fabric shop she’d been told about. She asked several people, and all responded: «That must be Isa.» — The Miami Herald
Meet the Business Owner
Isa B.
Business Owner
This is the story of a strong Cuban woman and the realization of a childhood dream. It is also a classic illustration of the American success story, of how a passionate interest combined with hard work can carve a pathway to success. It’s the story of Isa Couture, a Miami fabric shop.
Savvy women with clever dressmakers come here to buy Isa’s fabrics and copy the pictures. They tread on pink carpeting, sit on plump white chairs underneath crystal chandeliers and regard themselves in gold-framed mirrors. The shop is more like a designer’s atelier from the elegant ‘30s than the usual store where you buy cloth. That’s because it’s Isa’s dream.
