Bistro Cassis

We were browsing around looking for some place to eat lunch but wanted to be light.
Enticed by the variety the menu had to offer we decided to try Bistro cassis. They served us french baguette warm and fresh when we arrived. They also had good lunch special deals ranging from 10 – 15 with one glass of wine included. You could pair salad, sandwich or plate. There were so many to choose from but I was craving mussels.
Hubby ordered their chicken salad and had them blacken the chicken, it was absolutely delicious and made me a salad believer.
I ordered the curry mussels. This was awesome. The portion on the smaller side, but had a great flavor, with nuts and cranberry, and was served with excellent pomme frites.
With that we had some glasses of wine. We were there for a long time and we weren’t rushed at all. On the specials board there was definitely some yummy items, like a ravioli of the day (with eggplant ricotta and truffle, sounded amazing) and we will definitely come back again.
We were looking for a place that we can get mussels regularly and I’m sure we found it!

This is by far the worse restaurant (which shouldn’t even have the honor to call itself a restaurant) I’ve ever stepped foot in. Upon arriving to this horrible place we were rudely greeted by who we would soon find out thanks to Unilocal is the owner. The place was not full and we had asked to sit in a larger table since we were two people and had bags with us and despite how empty this awful place was he told us he wouldn’t be able to sit us in a larger table! It was when he saw us hesitant to stay and eat after his response is when he quickly said ok I can seat you. Keep in mind he ended up sitting us in the smallest table he had.
It should have been a red flag for us to stand and walk out when we saw three tables leave before even receiving their food but we had already placed our order.
We ordered two macchiatos which took 20 minutes to receive. We weren’t given any water or bread until we asked about three times for it. An hour and 20 minutes go by and we receive our food, yes I said an hour and 20 minutes! It was absurd!
We told our waitress that when the food arrives we will be paying for her service as far as tip but we will not be paying for our bill and she couldn’t agree more!
Finally the owner brought our food to the table without acknowledging or apologizing of how long it took to receive our food and top of all of this it came of course freezing cold! My mother returned her food and I had a bite till I then gave it back as well because it was just too cold to eat.
We stood up, tipped our waiter and left without paying the bill!
Aside from a business owner myself, I am also a lifestyle blogger and I’ve eaten anywhere from fancy restaurants to small family owned restaurants. Trust me when I say this is the worse place I’ve ever been to. I strongly suggest not to step foot at Cassi.
Miami offers so many amazing places to dine and this by far is not even close to being one of them.

We ordered
1) steak and pasta — steak has no taste and pasta was very heavy on the garlic
2) mussels — below average
Service –terrible
1) took 15 min for the server to come by and took our orders
2) first server forgot my bread. Had to ask a second server
3) fries came with the mussels didn’t come out till I was done with my food. I couldn’t even ask for it cause the server never came by our table
4) with the terrible service mentioned above. Tip was already charged at 18% in the final check

Review: Everything about this place is amazing.
Food, ambiance, service and the wine was delicious (a nice blanc de blanc).
I had a mushroom soup as well as a dish with mussels and a wine broth. To die for.
The owner is beautiful and very kind.
To finish with macaroons, genius.
French and fabulous. Will be back.

Two days ago, we ran across this place looking for something else. We came in for lunch and enjoyed the food very much.
I had the lunch special: Snails & the steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was with caramel used onions & a gooey cheese. It was excellently prepared & tasty. The snails were buttered to within an inch of their delicious lives. Hot & fresh out the kitchen.
Hubby had the tuna sandwich & onion soup. He enjoyed both very much.
Today, I ordered the Snapper special with crab sauce & sautéed spinach. Whooooo! That’s some good stuff. I stopped halfway through so I didn’t rush finishing it. Seriously. If you get it, you won’t be disappointed.
Hubby had the chicken schnitzel (breaded chicken). He could see the chefs making it fresh from his seat. No plastic bag frozen crap. I guess he liked it. He didn’t do a lotta talking & the damn thing was gone in a few minutes.
Every single thing is well made and tastes good.
As it just so happens, both times we were waited on by Andy. He’s a cool cat. Not all up in our faces, but attentive & professional. Easy on the eyes too, ladies. just saying…
For dessert, we had the crepes. I’m not a cooked fruit fan, but hubby loves it.
All in all, money well spent. And not that much money, either. If I had one recommendation, it would be to expand the beer selection. I do love La Fin duMonde.
We will certainly be coming back.

Usually the best places are ones that our friends reccomend, and this is one of those safe bets where I have no problem recommending to friends. The key to any 5 star rating is fresh quality ingredients cooked with respect and Cassis hits the mark. Amazing food alone can’t get you the 5.0 and the service here helps it get that perfect score. The steak tartar is what I ate the first time and the second time we ate here. It’s that good! Served with a quail egg and fresh micro greens, not sure if I will ever get to try the rest of the menu. Horacio the owner is there to make sure all goes well and to my fellow Unilocalers, I would tell you to check it out.

I really enjoyed my meal here. My friend suggested this place and I thought I would give it a try. We happen to have gone during the Miami Spice promotion and were glad we did. The menu offers 3-​courses for $ 39. This was a good deal because we got to try multiple items from the menu.
The service here is incredible. From the moment we sat down, waitstaff came over with menus and to bring us water and bread. Our servers name was Walter and he could not be any nicer. He gave us great recommendations on what to order and let us know about the specials for the night.
We started off with cocktails (Kir Royal and Pom Pom); My friend and I shared and we enjoyed both and would order both again, although I am used to a Kir Royal being served in a Martini glass.
It was a nice touch when they brought fresh warm bread and spreads to the table. Walter explained to us that the darker spread was actually a pâté; the other option included butter and olives. We wolfed the bread down. When our appetizers came, we asked Walter for more bread and he got on it right away. We ordered the steak tartar and beet/​goat cheese salad. The steak tartar was a little too peppery for my taste but the cut of the meat was perfect. I was surprised to see a raw quail egg cracked on top, but it actually tasted nice once mixed in. The beet salad was also enjoyable. The goat cheese is spread and toasted onto pieces of bread and then the salad has a decent amount of beets and seasoned nuts.
Our main courses include the short ribs with purée and lemon sole. We thought we were full after the bread and appetizer but we managed to nearly clean our plates. The food was that good. The short ribs are so tender they melt in your mouth like butter and the sole was crisp and has an amazing lemon flavor. The green beans and potatoes that were served along with the dish were also very tasty. When Walter came to check on us and clear the plates, he brought up our dessert, per part of the pre-​fixe special. We were both stuffed but he told us the delicious options and decided on the chocolate lava cake and almond/​coffee sponge cake (**i’m not sure of the actual names).
It’s very hard to say no to dessert and when we saw him carry out the gorgeous plates we managed to find the room to eat everything. I was slightly embarrassed by how much I had eaten, but the food was that good and the service was great. I was surprised that the place only had a few tables filled on a Saturday around 6/​7pm. I would totally come back and want to try a lunch here at some point.

My boyfriend and I were looking for something different and found bistro cassis. Super nice, good music, good looking place.

Totally recommended. Servers and staff gives you their best every time they knock the table.

We chose this restaurant based on its Miami Spice menu. The steak tartare and onion soup were amazing. The sole was perfectly cooked and the short rib was full of flavor. We swapped a dessert with the crème brûlée and it was the most delicious, fluffy, perfect crème brûlée I’ve ever had! (they must strain the cream before putting in the ramikens because it was incredibly smooth. The molten chocolate cake could have had a deeper chocolate richness but it was still delicious. The service was also spot on! very attentive but not overly hovering. The manager Christine is a beautiful woman inside and out and made our sure our dining experience was top notch!

If you’re looking for cookie cutter french bistro, this is it. Charming if over the top décor of what you might imagine a French bistro to look like. Lighting was Meh, glaring LEDS over the bar made for not charming combining white light with incandescent yellow is a pet peeve. Design is as much the experience as the quality of food, interesting menu and good service. Music was a bit club-​ey. they could do an authentic Euro lounge mix to make it seem different than every other miami restaurant.
Long bar where you can eat which I count as a plus Small patio that when it’s not sweltering, it would fun to sit in.
The staff seems a bit scattered, e.g. had a bit of a language barrier with the bar tender who didn’t know the difference between mineral water and «house» water. House water being, Vero water.
Noticed a lot of waiters standing at the edge of the bar while we sat there for five minutes, no welcome, nk what would you like to drink. Finally my husband caught the bartender’s attention and we ordered.
Maybe it was the start of service that threw them off, by the end of the meal the bartender was more attentive and ficused.
The frisee salad was good, not knock-​your-​pants-​off good but seasoned nicely. I don’t know why that’s so hard for some restaurants, but it is, so kuddos.
We ordered the mussels mariniere. They were solid. Plump mussels, subtly seadined, tons of garlic as they should be. The fries also fantastic, crispy, tastey with plenty of salt.
Net-​net, not über impressed by the service but not bothered by it. For miami standards I think people may not notice the lack of training and attention.
We will back for solid french bistro food.

Amazing service. With ok food. The plates presentation where nice but I found the pâté and tuna tartare a bit dry. And the mussels soak in butter is always tasty, but not impress either. Their wine selection was good and well priced and the crème Brûlée, yumi.
So, will I come back… don’t think so.

Terrible. Miami does not know french food.
The mussels were huge and tough.
The foie gras was ice cold and a pot of congealed fat.
My frisee was tired and tasted old. The lardon were over cooked pieces of ham.
How is this 5 stars on Unilocal.

First note that this isn’t your trendy new joint. It’s classic French food. After going to their NYC location, I was thrilled to see their expansion to Miami.
Everything from the freshly baked DELICIOUS bread, to their amazing butter and their pâté made a good start for our meal.
The Onion Soup is the best i’ve tried in Miami for sure. It’s flavorful, has nice and toasted bread, and is completely covered in cheese.
The Duck Breast was cooked to perfection and was even wonderful to look at.
Make sure to have their signature cocktail, Cassis, nice and strong! And last but not least, please don’t pass on dessert. Their Warm Chocolate Cake is AMAZING!

Immediately upon entering this bistro, you discover that they’ve done a great job of creating the atmosphere of a Parisian café, without falling for creating a ‘themepark’ version of a traditional French eatery. Beautiful brass, artistic photos, ubiquitous French café posters and white mosaic tile floors are combined with slick subway tile walls and industrial ceilings. The overall impression is high-​end and a fusion of Miami and Paris. The only downside is all that shiny tile means it gets a bit echoey and loud in the dining room.
The service was great: friendly and attentive throughout. They are also extremely generous with the bread service, as it was almost an embarrassment of riches; if they saw for even a moment that your breads were in danger of depletion, they immediately put down more. This consisted of a baguette and a crispy mini croissant brushed with a marmalade, both of which were delicious (and brought piping hot). As was the rich and decadent butter. My wife and I feel that a clear mark of a good restaurant is the quality of it’s humble bread.
The food itself was wonderfully prepared. We went for brunch, and took the rather unusual approach of combining «brunch» items with the kinds of savory treats you normally associate with lunch and dinner. So here’s the rundown:
Royal Benedict: The expected Eggs Benedict dish with a couple of twists. The first is the smoked salmon instead of Canadian Bacon. The second is that it’s served on one of their delicious croissants instead of a muffin. Both wonderful choices. The hollandaise was dense and rich as you might expect, and they were extremely accommodating about putting it on the side, so that I could portion it out on my own.
Moules Marinieres: Fresh steamed mussels in a white wine sauce with aromatic herbs. This was fantastic. The mussels were high quality, and the sauce was decadent, rich and savory. Combined with the plentiful bread, it’s the perfect dipping sauce — although at some point I just started drinking it with a spoon directly.
Escargot: One of the better executions of this classic that I’ve had, with the sauce not overpowering it.
I am very much a fan of this place, and it now qualifies and one of my two favorite French restaurants in Miami. This is a surprisingly high bar, considering that Miami has a French population that might surprise people not from the 305 — and as a result is actually quite rich in good French Food.
Highly recommended.

Normally a bistro is a small restaurant, serving moderately priced simple food in an understated setting. Bistros are defined mostly by their menus. The receipts tend to be passed down from generation to generation with improvements made by new owners or family members along the way. Cassoulet, a bean stew, beef stews, and confits are typical.
The Bistro Cassis, located in the old Design District is most certainly a bit more upscale than it’s Parisian cousins and reminds me more of a Brasserie which one can find in England and France they tend to have a more relaxed setting, which serves single dishes and other meals. The word brasserie is also French for «brewery» and, by extension, «the brewing business». A brasserie can be expected to have professional service, printed menus, and, traditionally, white linen – unlike a bistro which may have none of these. Typically, a brasserie is open every day of the week and serves the same menu all day. A classic brasserie dish is steak frites. I suppose my favorite brasserie (Lipp) has gone the way of most good ancient restaurants, but I digress.
Cassis is nicely decorated (without the awful chakas the French stick on every available flat surface) with attractive period photographs, high ceilings, and a white (small) tile floor.
I was planning to have a Pernod and then changed my mind and had one of their special cocktails. It was served in an old fashioned Martini glass and nicely decorated with a long lemon twist (unsquared alas). It contained an interesting mix of Raynal VSOP, Boudier Crème de Cassis, ginger, and dry rose wine; very refreshing. Their Terrine de Foie Gras (duck pâté) was smooth as silk and had a soft undertaste that I couldn’t quite get;they didn’t forget the gherkins and it came with a big stack of Cornichons a berry sauce and poached apples. Then came their Escargots Persilee with a crisp top and soft, fat snails in a garlic sauce underneath. (They hit the jackpot with this receipt.) Fish was a fresh as can be Sole Meuniere; fowl a very nice Canard la Orange served with wild rice. (I prefer Bigarde sauce), but this bird was fatless and tender and the lack of cognac didn’t trouble me too much. This was their special for the night and a little disappointed that I couldn’t have their Magret de canard poeles au cassis which would have consisted of:
1 échalote
30 cl de vin rouge
10 cl de crème de cassis
1 cuillère à soupe de baies de cassis
50 g de beurre
sel fin, fleur de sel et poivre
Huile de pépin de raisin… this is my favorite way to prepare a young duckling. Ceasar salad was quite an affair with a huge croûton in the center of tender romaine and a lovely anchovy-​egg etc dressing.
I adore this method of cooking a duck and will be sure to have it when I
companions had a steak frites and shrimp with spinach. I tried them both and found them well prepared (wild shrimp) and prime strip steak (I got a tiny bite and my mouth was full of flavors so I will not comment beyond that. Desert was a dainty lavacake, very chocolaty.
I will say a word about the owner who was gracious enough to come to the table and introduce himself to all of my companions, the very attentive waiter and especially Daniel Villa, the patient mixologist.
The Bistro Cassis is on my list for sure.

Ah, so happy to stumble across this place on a Saturday night !
Sure there’s plenty of places to dine in Midtown, but this French diner not only has the cool ambiance but also great food on the menu! My wife and I literally stared at the menu having a hard time what to get since everything looked so good! We finally decided so here it goes:
Drinks: Island Old Fashioned (Flor de cana with bitters) and the Cassis. No idea what this martini had but it was good! Oh, and also had my favorite beer: Chimay. Score!
Appetizer: When in France — Escargots Persille — six good sized bites smothered with flavorful pesto/​parsley.
Main Course: Ravioli Du Jour (Lobster Ravioli), great sized portion very smooth silky sauce filled with loads of lobster.
Carre D’Agneau (Rack of Lamb). Poor Mary, her lamb didn’t see it coming. Nice tasty racks seasoned with pistachio, wild mushroom risotto surrounded by a nice veal demi glaze. Holy Lamb!
Dessert — Fondant Au Chocolat. This one takes the cake! Not your typical molten lava cake from Chili’s. This is a small chocolate molten cake that explodes with chocolate sauce once you tap it with your spoon. This cake is on a bed of caramel and condensed milk, served with vanilla bean ice cream. WOW.
It’s been a while since we’ve eaten this good, and we’ll definitely be back for some more!

Bistro Cassis is a new spot at Midtown I found when taking my doggie to the nearby groomers. I happened to sit near the restaurant manager, who mentioned their Sunday-​only brunch. That Saturday, I had a chicken sandwich («Sandwich du Poulet»), which they customized with no avocado for OCD me. The melted swiss cheese mixed nicely with the spicy-​ish chipotle on a nicely-​sized baguette, and the tart tatin made for a yummy closing.
I stopped by for brunch this morning again, and had the same good experience. Besides a nicely loaded tall mimosa flute, I enjoyed the complementary piece of baguette and sweet croissant I got while waiting. My staple of eggs benedict was both rich and sizeable with the roll just perfectly lightly toasted. Dessert was a «pain Perdu» (French toast) with a helping of strawberries, blueberries and a fruit preserve. A big cup of latte finished the job of waking me up.
The outside tables are Dog-​Friendly (even though my pup showed the owner /​GM she still needs to learn some manners. sorry!!) so that’s an automatic star from me. I happened to have the same waiter both days, and service was pleasant and on point.

Amazing meal !!! Reminded me of honeymoon meals in Paris. French onion soup was great, 4 options of the way you can get muscles prepared is nice (just have to go back for the other style now), the Cod was really good, (never had it before, but since the special I tried it & it was wonderful). The steak auaupoive was cooked sooo nicely. Another person at the table had the tuna noicce and they loved it.
The bar was great at making interesting new cocktails for our table .
Not a dessert guy, but we got a couple for the table and cleaned every plate .
Definitely going back.

Great new place in The heart of Midtown, elegant and familial. Great food and wines; and an amazing Mixologist.
You wont regret trying this place.
