The Standard Spa

DO NOT go here! My friends and I booked various spa services when we were in Miami for my bachelorette party. Here is the good and awful:
PRO:
–excellent massage (for me at least — many of my friends disagreed)
–Friendly staff at the outdoor restaurant.
CONS:
–Awful awful front desk staff. They were so unprofessional — sassy, unhelpful, and didn’t even pretend to want to be working.
–Half of the lockers don’t work. I went upstairs to report that I couldn’t open my locker, was told someone would be right down, and then I say there and waited for 10 mins until someone finally arrived.
–The place needs a renovation very badly. The elevators and hallways are old and dirty. Not very spa-​like at all, especially for the money they charge.
–The pool is so jam packed that it’s not relaxing at all.
Literally anywhere else would have to be better than this place.

For $ 75 this is a very good deal for a spa day. You get access to the pool and full spa facilities including locker room, gym, meditation areas, saunas, etc. a great idea to do as a staycation or for out of towners wanting to see the standard hotel.

Absolutely LOVE! Best service and staff and the services are heavenly.

I cannot believe this! The The Standard Spa, Miami Beach has the worst costumer service ever! Thanks to their poorly laid out website my mother’s day massage was scheduled on the wrong day. They call me the day of, as the appt. is supposed to start, I explain it is a mistake and they still want to charge 100% for a massage I never got!!! I even got a «we hope you enjoyed your massage» email later on. Will not use their services ever again!

Etan Krupnick is the best part of staying here — most genuine and professional people I have been lucky enough to encounter in all my travels.

The worst experience ever… Horrible guest service. A gentlemen by the name of Corey at the spa was not only extremely slow but completely ignorant and rude. I love the standard and the spa/​yoga but they need to hire people that aren’t incompetent in running a check in desk. In my opinion they should be totally on top of it and not act they are outrageously self riotous.

I had the 30 minute detox scrub and the 75 hot/​cold stone massage. The treatments themselves and the masseuse who worked on me (I had the same for both treatments) were amazing. The scrub was done in the hammam on the marble. It felt great. FYI — this is open to all other spa guests so if you’re weirded out by getting a treatment in front of other people (bathing suit was on), then this might not be for you. The facilities were lovely. The marble was incredible and I could lay all day on it.
However, the fact that you had to check in one the second floor then take an elevator to access the locker rooms and then get back in the elevator to go back to the spa level was slightly annoying.
The worst part, and why I only gave 3 stars, were the receptionists. They were incredibly rude, didn’t offer to show us around or offer us sandals (it wasn’t until we walked up barefoot that then they said oh do you need shoes?). I booked online and it was an absolute nightmare. They were confused, kept confirming appointment times that weren’t accurate and 2 masseuses showed up for one massage. Needless to say, maybe they should have some training on the online booking system and how to provide better customer service?
Otherwise, great treatments and I left relaxed (until I had to check-​out and deal with receptionists).

I had heard a great deal about how fantastic this place is and it is nice, but it is nothing extra-​ordinary. Came here for a pool and spa day. The pool is cool, great for people watching and a very friendly, chill vibe. The waterfall hot tub is great for a shoulder pounding — it really feels good and the braver ones can take a dip into the cold «arctic plunge» pool — it was a little too «polar bear» for me… The regular pool is a bit on the cool side imho but worthy of a dip. A good mix of peeps looking to warm up during a winter vacay. The attendants were overwhelmed when I was there, but friendly and try their best to accommodate with water for all guests. With that said, service was non-​existent to slow, but I was there on a weekend, so keep that in mind. Food service is from The Lido and we ordered a kale salad, fish tacos and a green juice all of which were deelish. If you want good, healthy food by the pool, you won’t go wrong there. Good pool, good vibe, good environs — although the boats can get a bit noisy, but on a sunny day, a very relaxing place.
First the 411 on the spa, you are provided with a robe, flip flops and a locker. The locker room, showers and bathroom are quite utilitarian imho so don’t expect anything great there. It was my first time at the spa and I was rather impressed with the hamam and how relaxing it was. Although it can get a wee bit noisy with other guests (the entrance also leads directly into the hamam), most are respectful of the «quiet» mantra and choose to lie down and close their eyes for a few minutes. The aroma steam room was imho incredibly wet and hot, I went in only for a few minutes. The cedar sauna was very hot and relaxing although why must people insist on stretching, moaning and doing active yoga while other people are just trying to chill and be quiet??? This isn’t a hot yoga class people!!! Freakin just go in there to sit and chill out!!! There are tubs in the hamam, FYI, but I didn’t try it out. Overall I spent the most time in the hamam and felt that it was the most relaxing place where you could easily take a very nice nap. Water is provided just as you walk in the door.
My friend and I also took a pilates class and though I ached for days afterwards (which I thought was a good thing!), I felt our instructor went a wee bit too fast and did not emphasize proper breathing technique or form to help those who infrequent these type of classes. My friend definitely struggled through the class but we are «go with the flow» people so we both came out of it feeling a bit better about ourselves… lol… for the price we should!!!
Overall, it was a nice experience and I would definitely do the pool with day spa pass again. I’d pass on the class though. Worth a visit if you are in town… just be prepared to drop $$$.

I did rate this a 5 star because it is a cool place but the new poolside manager Oscar has a slick attitude that’ll get him thrown over the docks one day by us. Updated 2 Stars now.

I love the standard pool but the Spa Service is not 5 star quality at all. It was my birthday and I was hoping for some customer service but the attendants and management lack that. Instead of making my special day easier it was the opposite. However the rest of the hotel is just wonderful, no place like their pool.

The spa is amazing at the Standard hotel. I got a ‘hurt so good’ massage from Crystal and it was absolutely perfect. I go to this hotel at least 2 times a year and will definitely go to her again when I return. Thank you!

Came here for my birthday. Seeing the pictures and reading Unilocal reviews made me choose the standard as my celebration spot, ohh how I wish I wouldn’t have. Let me start so we get there and I’m craving that spa relaxation feel but as soon as the elevator to the third floor opens (which btw needs some maintenance it makes the weirdest sounds) we see a commotion people talking at the top of their lungs laughing getting out of a yoga class. This reminded me of an LA Fitness class session. Then we squirm through the crowd and we see the front desk area. The girl that helped us was nice at that moment. We were given robes and told to come back when our treatment time would be approaching (we came 4 hours before because he booking department told us to come in early and enjoy the facility).
We went to the locker room area which is in the second floor. As you are walking down the long gloomy smelly (mold smell) and ugly squared pieces rug which is coming apart you think we’ll let’s not judge lets go and change, OMG how horrible. The bathroom has no amenities (soap, shower cap you know what a spa treats you with inside a bathroom) and the sink has rust everything looks dated. I know they want to go for that retro look but they can update the retro with new retro looks not keep the same things from the 70s that are out dated. I mean come on for the PRICE.
ANYWAYS, So we decide to go upstairs and «enjoy» the facility. The sauna, steam room and Hamam room are not desirable they are like the LA Fitness facility amenities. So where is the water? outside in paper cups like the ones they give out in a kid soccer game and the fruits that are seen in their website and Unilocal professional pics? Non existent but as a worker told me «you are more than welcome to go downstairs and buy some» REALLY? I’ve been to a couple of spas and they offer light healthy snacks for their guests but here nothing.
After 45 minutes of this my husband and I decided to go downstairs and eat. The «botanical garden» needs some up keeping. The plants are dry and everything is muddy. Now I know it’s rained but come on if this is the case have your workers (which they have a ton but you still can’t get them to help you, more about that later).
Anyways, we walk towards the pool, the lady allows us in because we have a blue little yarn attached to our wrist and we find some lounge chairs which the colors are fading away (they look like lounge chairs in my parents community pool), so we sit down and look for someone to give us a menu. 15 minutes into doing the whole search and look like you need help (let me add several people who I later find out work here passed by us and seemed to not care) a guy passes by and says «yes?» And I say «you work here? (He has no uniform just shorts and a tee) and he said «well yea just the bar but I’ll get you someone that can help with the restaurant» and to make that story short, it took us 30 minutes and me standing up about 5 times to get someone to us. The food finally was brought out. I had a kale salad and my husband had the fish tacos. Everything was okay but pretty pricey $ 90. (We did have the coconut too but still, sheesh).
Sooo we said lets see we still have 2 hours left what to do? We go back to the spa and ask where the relaxation room (which was advertised by their reservation department and several spas have) and we were guided into a black room with 6 lounge sofas right next to their loud welcome desk. This place has a black curtain that separates the room from that area so the relaxation feel is gone and once again no light snacks no amenities just a wall with a glowing purple light. WOW. I was livid!!! I went out and spoke to the lady who helped us in the beginning and asked if anyone could see us and she said I’ll put you in at 3 instead of 3:30. Well 3 came and went and 3:30 came and went. At that moment I was as tensed as a Doberman looking at a piece of meat it wants to attack. I went up to the front desk and asked why it’s 3:40 and we haven’t been called and was told that we were going to be placed at an earlier time???
Well 2 minutes after that the ladies came out and I was feeling like a knot of stress. Upon their arrival I start complaining about our experience and expectations not met but that soon melted away because of KAREN. KAREN is the reason I even gave this establishment 2 stars. I would give her 5 stars if I could just rate her. She was amazing. She knew where my knots were and took them off. Soooo to conclude, I wish I could have Karen work at other spas like the Mandarin or Biltmore because I won’t be coming back to the Standard if they believe their Standards are Spa standards. Btw, the girl in the front asks me «how can I make this experience better for you?» And I thought «by bulldozing this spa and making a brand new one?»

Our experience here was extremely underwhelming. We expected this supposedly high end boutique hotel and Spa to have top notch facilities. What we found was much to the contrary. See attached photos of the restrooms, let’s just say their photos provided on Unilocal are heavily photoshopped. My wife and I were very disappointed, as of course we were expecting something much nicer.
We went to outdoor area prior to our massage and we waited almost 40 minutes to get service for drinks and food. Once we ordered the food, it came out quickly and efficiently. The coconut water was amazing, as it should be for $ 8, the rest of the food was average.
We found it hard to spend more than one hour at the spa facility as they are honestly limited and over crowded. I mean who wants to either get seen or see someone taking a Hamam bath? We opted not to bathe in front of other people.
The saving grace of the whole experience was the actual massage. Crystal did a phenomenal job and almost made me forget all the above. I just fail to see the value in a near $ 200 experience where the facilities are seriously lacking. I would urge them to provide massage only package since that was the only part of the experience I actually enjoyed.
For a better overall experience try the biltmore or Mandarin oriental spas, both have clean and updated facilities you can actually enjoy.

Ohhhhhh brother. Where do I start? God. I’ve stayed at the Standard (the rooms with the tub on the outside patio). I have fond memories of this hotel.
Recently, I decided to get a 45 minute «quickie» massage with Daniela. The massage was quite honestly the best massage I’ve ever had in Miami. Seriously. Wow. She applied so much pressure and although I am usually quite hesitant to go with a female therapist, she came highly recommended. Definitely request her if you decide to get a massage.
After my massage, I decided to have a little snack by the pool. I had the chips & hummus. Again, not usually a fan of hummus but I absolutely love the hummus here. I can’t seem to find it anywhere else this tasty. Then, the negative part of my day started…
I was extremely relaxed and in a slight haze after my massage. Well, I was shocked back to life when I watched a topless woman (and we’re not talking mosquito bites here people) and her man «caressing» her breasts in the pool. I felt like I was watching the beginning of a porn movie. It was quite gross. Then, another topless woman laying out (which was a sight I didn’t want to see). Then there was a group of 6 – 8 people that were drinking heavily and making a scene. I was absolutely disgusted. The standard is a hotel that prides itself on it’s spa. Locals obtain memberships to it and people spend a lot of money to ummm… RELAX. I stormed out of the pool because I was so frustrated at the scene. Management should tell obnoxious guests who are wasted at noon on a darn Tuesday that maybe they should keep it down and put their clothes on. It’s one thing to lay topless. Heck, I’ve done it but there is a way to do such a thing. Any sort of «action» in a public pool while drunk and topless is just gross.
So I left and nothing made my exit sweeter than $ 15 validated parking and waiting 30 minutes to get my car. $ 15 validated parking? What?! Absurd. Let’s just say I definitely won’t be making the Standard a regular spot.

I joined !!! So excited to be a member and be part of this rejuvenating retreat in South Beach seven days a week.
Once inside I felt i had entered a jewel, an oasis., now I understand why memberships require a three month commitment.
I like that i can bring friends for the Spa or fitness classes for s small daily fee.
But wait, the best part is that after the Spa i was able to relax in my robe and enjoy breathtaking views, while the staff served a delicious sunsets meal.

Overpriced Boutique Hotel. There is no parking, so you are forced to valet and pay the extra fee. The rooms are very small, and on two occasions I have found live insects-​roaches in my room. They did send someone to remove these residents, however, it was after I had left for the day, could not wait around. Having said these things, the spa-​hammam on the third floor is quite lovely, but lacks windows except for in the yoga studio. The spa staff and most of the yoga classes are wonderful. I have heard nice things about the massage services, however, these are not in my budget considering there are many other very good places all around for half the price or less…
Not near the beach, you will need to drive… And pay again significantly to do so near the beach. No shuttle service for other local attractions. Once again, the yoga is awesome as are the wellness retreats I’ve attended

As a local, i LOVE sitting by the pool to relax and not be surrounded by crazy tourists on the beach. Unfortunately, when I called today to see how much a day pass was (thinking it would be 30 – 40 $ like last year) it was $ 125. This is INSANE. I think not, keep your pool– you just lost some local customers.

The spa itself does not look as fancy as some of the other Miami Beach Hotel Spa. Its a bit on the small side but so is the overall hotel.
I only went for a manicure and pedicure. Its kind of pricey but the treatment is worth the cost!
Its a bit odd that the ladies bring a giant tub of water to do your manicure and pedicure but I guess that is a part of the experience. I got a worshipped Hand and Foot treatment. Hands down the best mani/​pedi I have had EVER. The process takes about 2 hours, an hour on each treatment. How glorious! The warm coconut milk, hot stone massage and attention to detail made me (and my fingers and toes) feel like I was in a little piece of heaven.
The fact that the spa was a bit small lets you relax. There isnt a constant buzz of people or noise which is REALLY great. Once you are done, grab some food downstairs on the outside deck area for a really indulgent afternoon.

This is my first visit, to any spa really. I recently read a book called The Cathedral of Flesh, which makes me curious to try a hamam. So when a friend told me about an event there that includes a free day pass I jumped at the offer. The day pass alone is $ 40 for weekday and almost double for weekends, but if you check their calendar they do have events quite often, that includes free use of the baths, so it may be a good deal if some classes are of interest to you.
The place is a bit hard to find. The first time I drove by without realizing it’s a hotel. Also, the road go around in a loop, across the main road. Finally I notice that on the outside of the building it says Lido Hotel. A different name but I figure that’s it. The lettering and name, the building façade, and the elevator all hints at an earlier era. However the place did a good job of renovation and most things look sleek and modern.
Though I am a first timer it was pretty easy going around. As I told my husband, it’s kind of like ordering fish, you can have it steamed, baked or pan seared. Or rather, all of the above.
At the entrance is the hamam, where you can lie down on the heated marble. It’s very comfortable, I feel like I could just lie there forever. To the right is the steam room, and sauna on the left. There are also rooms with showers, or message/​scrub tables. Near the entrance there are also four SS bath tubs. My friend took her own stuff along for a bubble bath, and it seems like there is staff to clean it after each use. Overall, things look clean, and staff is friendly. I also love how they leave generous stacks of towel everywhere and provide drinking water.
Outdoors, there is a pool with music under water. Kinda cool. Do try their fountain with the cascading waterfall. It’s like have three big guys giving your massage at the same time, pounding your shoulder and back in a very nice way. Gosh it’s so RELAXING!
Near the pool they have some hammocks and hanging rattan chairs, where you can hang out with your friends.
While I enjoy the baths, I do not like the set up. You go up to 3^rd floor to register, get the key, take the elevator down to 2^nd floor to change and put away your things. Back to 3^rd floor to the spa, and when done down to 2^nd floor to change. And don’t forget to go back up to return your key and get back your id! Totally awful set up. Can’t they at least drill through the floor and install a spiral staircase so we don’t have to take that old dingy elevator?
About parking — if you opt not to valet, the lot is resident only after 7pm, but you can park there during the day. Not sure how strict they are and how diligent about towing away any offenders.

Very original place to have a spa day. Both times I’ve been here I’ve purchased a day pass and just used the amenities. The ambiance is very dark, and Romanesque — not incredibly white and sterile-​looking like other spas I’ve been to.
First, some need-​to-​knows:
— All areas are co-​ed (minus locker rooms, of course)
— Lockers on the 2^nd floor, spa on the 3^rd floor. You have to take an über slow elevator (or stairs) to go between them.
— It’s about $ 70-​$ 80 for a day pass to use the spa amenities + pool
The amenities include:
— The Hamam. This seems to be the main area here. You can sit or lay on the heated marble and stretch or relax. You can have a treatment here from one of the specialists. Be careful getting on or off — saw someone try to jump off and they slipped.
— Aroma Steam Room. Pretty straightforward.
— Scrub room. A couple of slabs to lay on and high pressure hoses. If you came with a buddy, you can take turns spraying/​scrubbing each other here, or schedule a treatment.
— Cold rain shower. Awesome for right before the steam room.
Others: sauna, sound shower.
My favorite part of this experience is alternating between the indoor and outdoor amenities. The ambiance and view is absolutely amazing. Outside, they have a roman waterfall, ice cold dive pool and an infinity pool with one of my favorite views of Miami.
BONUS TIME: Find the ping pong table and get your game with another white-​robed friend.
My time at the spa really makes me want to just book a room here and hang out for a weekend.
