The worst place in miami. The are scaming people. We was told that it was a happy hour but we was forcera to pay 500 $ for 6 drink or they was going to call the cops… dont go there. And the toilets… there where pee over the hole toilet…

Is incompetent, the server Omar didn’t know how to explain the menu and then they charge us double the price, they didn’t give us everything what we ask for it and wasn’t full

This restaurant is the biggest scam out there. Do not be fooled of what is offered or promised by the staff that are trying to lure you in. JUST KEEP WALKING! When approached the stand to see what drinks the restaurant offered, the staff told us about their 2 for one special in which you get to big drinks for $ 45. we started walking away to see what others offered and we hauled back in being promised 20% off and a shot each. Needless to say, 45 minutes after, no shots (which is fine as we came to enjoy one drink) we asked for the bill. The billed stated $ 55 plus taxes and automatic gratuity which came out for $ 70.95. When I asked the same man about the the price as it was supposed to be $ 45 and 20% off, he stated that offer was only for food not for drinks. We never discussed food as we only came for a drink. The manager came out and started raising his voice stating that we are lying and that’s not what was mentioned. We felt embarrassed, cheated and verbally abused by him in front of all bystanders. Places like this put south beach to shame and am saddened my cousin from out of town had to witness this.

Stayed here a few nights while in Miami. The staff was AMAZING and very welcoming. It is also really nice to be right on south beach. The room were actually very clean (except the one cockroach we saw) but that happens in old hotels. I would stay here again, cant beat the location! I had a blast!

We stepped in because of guy at the door who said its an Happy Hour, ok why not?! ok two margaritas please (: huge ones but c’mon $ 100 whaat the helllll, no price in the menu for drinks!!! dont buy anything there if there no price on it! Be careful people!!!

I stayed here while on a business trip to Miami purely for the location as it was opposite the beach. On the whole it was a pleasant stay and Carlos at the front desk was excellent. The only downfall is housekeeping. When I arrived for my first night I was welcomed with dirty sheets that had blood stains on the pillow case and seaman/​urine marks on the sheets! Never in my life has this happened and I have stayed at hotels and hostels around the world!
This was brought to the Managers attention and my sheets were changed for actual clean ones.
I think housekeeping definitely need training on what are acceptable standards for bedding and also the need to restock towels in the bathroom too when used ones are taken.

The hotel has nothing to do with the Columbus restaurant out front. That’s another business and another story! The hotel is in a great spot from where to enjoy South Beach. After reading so many complaints on Unilocalers’ reviews I was expecting a horrifying experience but it actually was a nice place to stay for the (South Beach) price.

The Colony Hotel is an Art Deco icon on South Beach’s Ocean Drive and is ideal for travelers who don’t plan to spend much time in their room and wan’t to save money.
The small boutique hotel’s neon display provides the perfect backdrop to many nightlife photos making it instantly recognizable. So were you a little surprised when you found rates as low as $ 99 per night in peak season? While at a great value, the hotel can be underwhelming to travelers accustomed to well-​known chains. The rooms were clean but very outdated and our bathroom was pretty scary. In Art Deco fashion, the hotel featured platform beds (aka low to the floor). There is a café onsite, ac in the rooms and beach towels available at the front desk. Otherwise, the most desirable accommodation — you’ll be located in the heart of South Beach!

Elevator was frequently broken. Room was loud at night. When you go in and out of hotel the hostess at restaurant in front of hotel always bothers you to have a drink and eat.
The hotel does have a great location.

No luxury experience! Ideal location to turn up! You hear everything and the bathroom stunk!

The room was well decorated and it is in a very convenient location if you plan on staying in the area… And you don’t have a car. Parking and traffic are really bad, though colony does offer valet. The asked that we call them 20 minutes before leaving so that they could have the car ready, and by the time we got down stairs our keys were in the counter, ready to go.
There were no blankets on the bed, just sheets and a thin cover. So it got very cold very fast on only one side of the bed. And everything in the room just felt moist at all times.
The bad part: while checking in we saw a roach crawling around the wall. Literally, this was our first impression. And as we were getting ready to go, I was putting on shows and I saw a mouse just stroll on by. At first j thought I was crazy but then I heard it and saw it again.

I mean, this is a boutique hotel so I didn’t have high expectations. It was a good deal and we were only staying one night & we knew this hotel was conveniently located. The location is ideal, it is in the perfect area on the strip near all of the action. Yes, it is noisy but that was expected. The beds are very low, almost on the floor, which is a bit strange but there’s a bathroom and a closet, what more do you need? We didn’t have an ocean view but the room was clean and the front desk staff was nice, which is what mattered to us.

I reserved a room for Dec. 5 — 8 for ONE double room. I have now been charged for THREE! When I called to inquire why, the nice but obviously not very well trained concierge was not ready to deal with my direct line of questioning and kept putting me on hold. When I asked him not to do this again because I was at work and limited time, to proceeded to tell me I made the mistake when booking and that I requested three rooms. NOT THE CASE. my confirmation states that i reserved ONE room for three nights. When I log in to your ‘returning customers” log in. (i will not be returning, and debating if I’m keep this reservation) it states I have two reservations. So which is it.1, 2 or 3??? My card had now been charged $ 254 a total of three times, taking my balance over drawn on that account. Who pays for those fees???
Is this how you do business? Is this the standard for hospitality and style since 1935, that your company is known for?

This hotel is a dump. I stood in room 215. Let’s start off with saying that the view was of a brick building about 10 ft away. The refrigerator was warm. It didn’t get cold. The room smelled like something died in it. A friend came to visit and thought we had rotting food in it. The smell was unbearable. I was so embarrassed. Room service came only once to clean the room in my entire stay. The electricity socket was broken and sparked whenever you would try to plug something in. The shower faucet was also broken. One day we got stuck in the tiny elevator for 5 minuets. The staff was RUDE when I request beach towels and handed me dirty «white» room towels with stains on it. I also made a request for bathroom towels since housekeeping only came to clean one day and she never came with towels.
PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE. Save your money and go somewhere. This place is truly disgusting. For crying out loud, one of the guys in the front desk was watching movies with his headphones on. I went to complain and ask to be changed to a different room. He simply said. I can’t help you and continued watching his movie. The cherry on top were the three roaches I killed while staying here.
Moreover, friends and I ate at the hotel restaurant, «The Columbus Restaurant». The food was horrible. Drinks were watered down and pricey. If you eat at this dump make sure you ask how much is their happy hour before sitting.
Also the free WIFI doesnt work. The service here is horrible
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE COLONY! YOU’RE BETTER OFF STAYING IN A HOMELESS SHELTER!

As I read the rewiews for this hotel I was hesitant to book I am soooo darn happy I did!!! I have traveled to South beach numerous times and everytime my hotel experience were just ehhh, 2 or 3 star ratings. So when I booked I wasnt expecting much.
My boyfriend and I arrived around 11am after getting off a cruise. I knew my room was not ready but the guy at the desk was extremely helpful & apologized and said although our policy guarantees our rooms to be ready by 3pm plz come back around 1pm and I will have a room ready. We said it was no problem since we were going to be soaking up some sun and offered us some beach towels. When we returned round 4pm, we were met by Carlos at the reception desk. What a professional person he was and handdled us with such care. He gave us our room keys and I was expecting the worse. Oh my to my surprise I was met with an amazing room. A huge 54 inch tv, dvr, comfy queen bed, wood floors and a small but nice clean bathroom. I was in heaven… My bf and I couldn’t beleive it!!! Out of all the rooms I have stayed in on Ocean drive, this was the best one. Great location and wonderful customer serivice. I definitely will be returning.
I read about how noisy it was but we stayed on the first floor, 1^st room by the door and we hesrd nothing. Trust me this hotelnis so worth it.

Why all the bad reviews? I was prepared for the worst after reading the Unilocal reviews however i was pleasantly surprised when i checked in today! Great front desk, really helpful friendly people. Room got upgraded to ocean view!!! Clean, spacious and an escape from all the insanity going on down on the street. Ill admit its really noisy but my boyfriend and i are in miami to party so thats not a prob got room for $ 230 per night by booking 3 months ahead. I also have realized that the room that we were upgraded to was a $ 400 a night room! I feel like my experience was probably not the usual one however it was great at that. Hope to be back soon because this location is so much fun and captures the crazy-​ness of Sobe perfectly. Despite the loudness I honestly slept fine, maybe thats because I never got back before 2am and was drunk… lol either way come here if you are interested in partying at night and going to the beach by day! Loud people running around the hallways but again, this did not bother me because I expected it.
Not for families, older couples, or anyone interested in a nice quiet getaway.

Please be forewarned, Colony Hotel is a party hotel in the middle of Ocean Drive. If you’re there with your family and little kids then don’t stay here, why you would take your kids to South Beach anyway is beyond me but Colony is not the place for this. As it can get loud, people will be in the hall making noise, they play music half the night in the lobby. This is not a family hotel!
Now if you’re looking to have a good time, be on a busy loud street and stay at a good hotel, then Colony is a place you should consider.
Hotel is not fancy, rooms are basic but clean, shower in my room was exceptional large. Beds were comfortable
Best thing about this place is location, location, location! Right across the street from a beautiful beach and right in the heart of Ocean Drive, close to all the clubs and restaurants. Cars aren’t needed here, leave them at home.
If you aren’t overly fancy and want to have a good time, stay at Colony, if not keep it moving.

I booked a 3 night stay at The Colony Hotel in South Beach, Miami for a surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday. We went to South Beach together for the first time last year (March 2012) and stayed at a boutique hotel on Collins Avenue. Although we were happy with those accommodations I wanted to really surprise him by staying right on the beach on Ocean Drive. Every night life photograph of South Beach always has the famous Colony Hotel in the background, so I decided to stay here this time around.
Unfortunately I have to say we will not be returning to The Colony Hotel for any future visits to South Beach. I read numerous reviews on trip advisor prior to booking this hotel, and although most weren’t great, I chose to stay here anyways because neither of us are the «knit picky traveler». We are usually quite satisfied with a clean, functioning room for a place to shower and sleep. Well that’s where The Colony crossed the line with us. First of all let me say you can not beat the location. It is perfect. You are directly across from the beach and right in the middle of all the action. The room was very small, and like I said we were really only there to shower and sleep. However we kept finding ourselves tripping over and bumping into one another just trying to get ready. Apparently this place doesn’t believe in light fixtures. The hallways are incredibly dingy and dark (not to mention fowl smelling… a mix of some illegal substances and awful cleaning solution). The actual room literally had TWO light bulbs in it. There was only one small lamp in between the two beds and one dingy light in the bathroom. It was always dark and hard to get ready in that type of ambiance. The only mirror in the entire room was a tiny one in the bathroom above the sink. As a female, I found it very difficult to get ready with that being the only mirror because my boyfriend would be in the shower and the bathroom didn’t have a fan, the mirror would automatically fog up. We had no tissues in the entire room and there was only one small garbage can in the bathroom. I understand and appreciate that this is an original Art Deco hotel, but simple things like the aforementioned can be modified and added to accommodate their guests more. Now for the worst… we didn’t have any warm water to shower with for two out of the three days. When I called the front desk the first day, the guy told me «ok ill turn it on, give it three minutes». Well after ten minutes I couldn’t wait any longer because we were in a hurry to meet friends for dinner, so I showered in the cold. The second day I let the water run 15 – 20 minutes before calling to complain, but it never got slightly warm. When I called I got an almost identical response telling me to wait 3 minutes. Again, I waited and ended up taking a cold shower. Irate, I phoned the front desk to express my anger. The guy basically offered me no apologies, solution, etc. Instead after stuttering, told me I can see the manager when she comes in later. Well unfortunately we were checking out in an hour before her arrival, as it was our last day here (thank god). When we did check out an hour later, I couldn’t help but notice the «facebook page» pulled up on the computer screen at the front desk. Apparently surfing facebook was more important than attending to and helping their guests.
We ended up extending our trip one day longer (due to flight delays on the way there). For our last day we booked a room back at the boutique hotel on Collins that we stayed at the previous year. Upon arrival and throughout the stay we couldn’t have been happier (except for wishing we had stayed there the entire time). We learned our lesson, and all the Ocean Drive beachfront hype isn’t worth staying at a hotel that I felt as though they should have been paying us to stay at. Collins Avenue is less than a 5 min walk to the beach and was so worth staying at the boutique hotel we stayed at. One other complaint (not directly in relation to The Colony though) was that you could not walk down Ocean Drive at any time of day without being hassled and heckled by EVERY single restaurant host asking you to dine at their restaurant, as they are trying to shove a menu in your face. We got so sick of it we ended up walking on the Beach side of Ocean Drive. My final advice… either book a hotel on Collins and walk to the beach, or splurge and pay for a very fancy hotel right on Ocean Drive, where you may have the proper facilities to shower and sleep comfortably. (Please note — both myself and my boyfriend are both in our mid 20’s, we like having fun and spend most of our time outside of the hotel room and this hotel’s accommodations still drove me CRAZY!!)

It got the job done! its not a 5 star but most hotels on Ocean drive are not 5 star. I picked the historic Colony because you cant think of South Beach Miami and not think of the famous blue neon «Colony» sign that is plastered over every postcard and calendar. I stayed here from Thursday to Sunday in mid July. I found my room to be very charming. Nice size bed with a cute mosaic tile bathroom. However I found it a little odd the shower floor was also the bathroom floor. There isn’t a separation of the two, and after each shower almost the entire floor is wet.
I did dislike the fact that a soda from the lobby bar was a FLIPPIN $ 14.00! yeah I brought it, (hey my roommate was sick) and I chucked it up to the fact that I was in SOBE. I took a chance and had breakfast in the hotel lobby/​indoor seating for the restaurant. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out where the servers were going when the brought the food out to the tables. It honestly looks like they walk thru the ALLEY?!. Breakfast was «MEH I’VE EXPERIENCED BETTER”(yelp members inside joke). I did however enjoy the Mimosas «Mmmm Yummy».
Overall the hotel is clean the staff super friendly and the scene outside the hotel is always busy. If you don’t wanna be harassed by every «up and coming» model trying to sell you on eating at there restaurant then Ocean Drive may not be the place you want to stay. Hey I don’t mind I love the busy atmosphere and people watching. Oh and just a note I would recommend parking in one of the garages on Collins Ave. Valet here is $ 24 a night, but if you don’t mind neither do I.

Super Lage. Super Architektur. Cooles Personal und wenn man weiß wo man sich befindet (partymeile) eine Top Unterkunft. ¹²⁄₂₀₁₀ renovierte Zimmer. Wir waren erstaunt wie günstig wir hier Buchen konnten. Es ist etwas laut, aber ich kann das colony jedem empfehlen der sobe und vor allem den Ocean Drive voll und ganz erleben möchte empfehlen. Ps: immer die Parkhäuser in den Nebenstraßen nutzen und nicht den parkservice, so sparen sie locker. 12 – 15 Dollar.

Ich kann zwar nicht mit einer Übernachtung aufwarten (wahrscheinlich ein grober Fehler) aber allein Architektonisch und wegen der Nachtbeleuchtung brauchts einen Hinweis auf das Colony-​Hotel in Miami (und natürlich wegen dem Wiedererkennungseffekt im Miniaturwunderland Hamburg).
Erstaunlich ist, dass man ursprünglich den Art-​Deco-​District in Miami abreißen wollte. Nunmehr ist er geschützt und wirklich eine Reise wert. Wurde ja auch im Film Birdcage verwendet.
