8 Oz. Burger Bar

This place blows, indifferent service, loud tv’s, average food and crap atmosphere… There are better burger bars in town such as B&B to name but 1.

I heard that 8 oz will be reopening in the old Kim’s Chinese restaurant location on the corner of Lincoln Rd. and West Ave. in South Beach.
I emailed their corporate HQ to tell them that I thought it was a bad idea.
First of all, Burger n Beer joint is just 200 yards to the north, and 5 Napkin Burger, a few blocks east on Lincoln Rd. is struggling.
In my opinion, the burger bar concept is so 2009. The fact is, the crisis is over and people are spending money again… lots of money… especially at South Beach restaurants.
I think an American tavern/​gastropub with a good draft beer selection (that also serves burgers) would be a much better concept for this location, but what do I know… I am only a local that eats out in South Beach 5 times a week.

Decent Bison burger, but you are better off skipping the way they dress them and doing them yourself. Simple is the way to go since the ingredients are good, they try to hard to make a unique burger, and most of them just don’t work.
Excellent fries, skip the truffled potato skins, they are pretty boring in general.

On a solo trip to Miami, I randomly came upon this place after googling «burgers» close to my hotel. It was a bit empty when I came in (which scared me), but the service was great and my burger was off the chain! lol. The food is inexpensive (at least to my NYC standards for a burger), wide selection with something for everyone and very good. The place looks perfect to watch a game with friends as well. I would definitely recommend and be back for more…

The burger tastes pretty delish and juicy but I think it’s priced too high (that’s Miami Beach for ya). While living in South Beach, I didn’t find too many impressive burgers, so this actually ranks higher on the taste factor (5-​stars if it was priced better).
But I’m a California girl and I’d say 8oz Burger is pretty forgettable compared to some of the places I’ve eaten here. But in Miami Beach, this place works.

off the bat, the food is good and the beer was good food selection and beer selection was good. i had the turkey burger and my wife had the 8oz burger. Plus we had a coupon.
the service started out good. fast. efficient. then after our meal we waited and waited. until we actually saw our server LEAVING. after 10 minutes of waiting for the check i finally had to flag down the nearest guy who tells a lady and eventually gets us our check. Inside the booklet where our check was. was someone elses debit card! We couldve just TAKEN it or swipe it for ours. another 10 minutes later we finally paid and left. very dissapointing end.
would i go back? perhaps. but not my first choice.

A home made big as your head Veggie Burger that is so loaded with flavors and needs a million napkins to eat is just what I needed and what I got at 8oz Burger Bar.
My parents are lucky to live right next door, so my husband and I decided to check it out.
The staff is great, friendly, funky and know their business!
The food is so fresh and of the best quality, real upscale fast food in a relaxed, eclectic atmosphere at a fair price!
We got the mac n cheese, mozzarella pillows, onions rings and fries with my veggie burger and the man had the smokehouse burger!
They were so damn good, one of the best spots on the beach for some real good food, would definetly come back to eat here anyday!

A for effort here. Take my review with a grain of salt because I don’t eat burgers. Something about ground meat… ugh. Do not like.
But, the BF was craving a burger and I thought their sides and such looked interesting, so off we went.
The fried artichoke side was really fantastic. I had a veggie burger and I give them credit for having both a veggie burger and a portobello mushroom burger on the menu… the same can’t be said for Beer and Burger or whatever it’s called over on Bay Road. That said, the veggie burger was pretty bad!
I was not drinking that night but the beer based cocktails looked really creative and definitely tempting! I will definitely be returning to sample them! I liked the interior design as well, and the server was friendly and knew his way around the menu — made some good suggestions.

Some of my friends rave about this place so we decided to give it a shot. We started with the mac n cheese app which was super good. I highly recommend it. Heck, I would come in just to order this alone– that good! I had the roadhouse burger and my bf ordered the 8 oz burger. Meh. It was good but I didn’t find the meat tasty enough and the burger was rather greasy. I had heard a lot about the bison burger, maybe should’ve tried that instead. The service was great and the beer selection was pretty good too. I like the place but not my first choice for burgers.

8oz is probably one of the only reasons why I will drive to Miami Beach. The burgers are amazing.
The breakfast burger is my favorite and the 8oz sauce is top notch. Substituting for sweet potato fries is a must do. The burgers always come out the way you ask which doesn’t always happen at burger joints. They really know how to blend different ingredients to make special creations.

I went here to jump into the March Madness. I sat at the bar and ordered a beer, then eventually decided to order some «loaded» potato skins. Now Unilocal,picture in your mind what loaded potato skins looks like. Got it? Then, delivered to the bar are are strips of potato skins with cheese and about 2 – 3 bacon pieces on each skin. Hmmn. No sour cream, either? Ok, it came out a few minutes later. But «loaded», no.
Skimpy skins aside, this is a great place to watch any game, there are TVs throughout the bar and they even have the game playing over the restaurant speakers. The bartender was super nice and everyone sitting at the bar was great to talk to. A mix of locals and tourists, and not too packed to not be able to order the necessary drinks, while cheering on your team.

Went here last night with my girlfriends after seeing a drink promotion online. The staff were so nice. Large seating areas. A big wrestling match was broadcast on the flatscreen tvs that were all over and easy to see.
2 men actually got up from their seats at the bar to offer them to us! THAT is a first for Miami! Ladies, this is where the real men are!!!
Very comfortable atmosphere.
Will be back to try their famous burgers

Came here to watch the UFC fight since everywhere else in SoBe was booked or not playing it. Atmosphere was pretty good to watch a sporting event. The booze selection is really good too (they have Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA), but I just wish they let you choose your own beers for the sampler. Ah well… on to the food…
I was expecting a great burger since after all, this is a burger bar. There were tons of toppings to choose from, but they all were additional to the $ 12 burger, so I decided to go commando and not mask the essence of the burger… Unfortunately the burger was dry, dry, dry! Not overcooked or burnt dry because it was a really thick burger and still pink, but the meat was just too dried out for my taste. Took me a pint of beer to make that thing go down…
What could’ve elevated this burger experience to a 3 star would’ve been free or cheaper toppings. I wanted to try 5 of the toppings on the list, but then I would’ve wound up with a $ 17 dry burger?!? Adjust the pricing a bit and I think the value/​experience could be improved…

I guess time flies when you get used to mediocre. I have a love/​hate relationship with 8 Oz. I love a good burger, and when 8 Oz. is on, they make a damn good burger!
But there’s only so many times I can pay $ 13 for what’s supposed to be a bacon cheeseburger with fried onions and BBQ sauce, and not wring my hands in anger when my burger turns up with 2 measly slices of bacon and a little side of BBQ sauce. No cheese. No crispy fried onions. Not the burger I paid for.
C’mon now 8 Oz. If you’re not going to have the wherewithal to make sure your burgers come out with the right components, why not rid the menu of the pre-​chosen «creations?» That’ll definitely help ease things for your surely overworked staff.
Because really, there’s no other excuse for the continued terrible service. And unfortunately, the meager to non-​existent service covers all aspects of 8 Oz.‘s food service — the wait staff, the take-​out people, and those in charge of delivery.
Here’s hoping you can get your act together 8 Oz. Once and for all.

We redeemed a livingsocial deal here this weekend & loved it. It’s a small, but well organized-​restaurant with plenty of staff to handle the crowds. The menu pairs burgers with beer which was a huge hit with our friends.
The Bison Burger was A-​W-​E-​S-​O-​M-​E, but so were the various small plates our table started with. I loved the mac n chees, fried olives, & sweet potato fries because everything was so flavorful & DELISH. But the mozzarella pillows left something to be desired for… they were bland! How do you mess up fried cheese?
The bill was a bit pricey for the concept but I think that had to do more with the copious amounts of beer we consumed than the actual pricing of the food. (So lay off lots of beer & enjoy lots of food if you’re trying to be frugal I guess)

Your local bar with good food. Plenty of TVs, very casual, doors left open. Good options for veggies, spinach salad and sweet potato fries were excellent.
The only place my grandson will finish a meal, PB&J to die for but $ 8 for a kids meal?
Also laughable was the Gluten free advertised in menu, it is only a piece of lettuce over whatever meat they have.
Ah well, can’t be too picky here at South Beach.
Just be ready for a big $check.

This review is for 8 Oz’s delivery service, which incidentally, I wouldn’t recommend on a busy night (I guess Saturday qualified), unless you don’t mind being quoted a delivery time of 40 minutes, while the actual turns out to be 90 minutes and change. 50 minutes longer than expected, that’s quite a variance.
Anyway, I ordered the Mykonos, a lamb burger with feta, tzatziki, spinach, onion and tomato. When it arrived, I was ravenous. Reviewing food you ordered 90 minutes ago that you plan to eat in a bar where you sit, famished, is fraught with potential pitfalls. I was not looped, however, so I think I can give a fair assessment.
Tzatziki is about the only ooze-​y white stuff I’ll allow on my food, so I dumped it on the burger. This tzatziki won’t transport you to a Thessalonian café — it’s too watery, too runny — but the slight lactic tartness does its job. Feta, onion, tomato, spinach… pretty difficult to go wrong with those. The bun came lightly toasted, and the lamb patty, while somewhat overcooked vis-​a-​vis my «medium» order, tasted fresh. The overall effect was that of a competent, tasty burger.
At $ 13 – 14, it’s overpriced considering it doesn’t even come with fries. Of course, I had to order some sweet potato fries. They were OK — they came salted, which isn’t my preference — sweet potato is flavorful enough as to not need much salt, in my opinion. They weren’t heavily salted, mind you, but I just don’t need any perceptible salt on sweet fries.
At a different price point, I could go 4 stars. But when I consider that Friday burgers at Whisk, as well as the absurdly good host of death-​metal-​inspired burgers at Kuma’s Corner in Chicago, can be had at this price or less… it’s difficult for me to justify awarding more than 3.

After my experiences at B&B, I really wanted to have another place I could go get my burger fix. On my way to the movies, I spotted 8oz and turned around. This visit was pre-​ordained. There was a parking space big enough for a truck AND there was an open booth as soon as we entered. Tell me it wasn’t meant to be. We did wait a bit for our server, but he finally arrived with the menus. While he was present, we went ahead and put in an order for some buffalo wings and then continued to look through the menu. What we ordered when our server returned:
Plain cheeseburger (medium)
Smokehouse Burger without lettuce or tomato (medium)
Side of Fries
As we ordered, the place was clearing out. The wait was long and I don’t quite understand why. I know that the menu stated that when we ordered that it would be some time to get our food, but there were people that came in quite a bit after us that received their burger before we ever received our buffalo wings. My hunger was finally tamed some with the arrival of the wings, and they didn’t taste bad. After another 30 minutes of waiting we finally received the rest of our meal.
The burgers were overcooked; more of a medium-​well (plus) than a medium and they tasted as though they had been sitting for some time. The plain cheeseburger was fine, but the smokehouse burger is something that I wouldn’t order again. The BBQ sauce tasted more like a mixture of ketchup and mustard than actual BBQ sauce. The fries, while hot when the arrived, quickly became hard and inedible as they cooled. They had been refried to refresh them.
I will give them one more chance but from my first visit to 8oz, B&B just seems like a better value.

I really struggled with how many stars to give 8 oz… But I’ll stick with my original 3 because despite its flaws I had a pretty good time there the other night.
I can’t say the burgers were amazing… but that’s probably because I’m comparing every burger I eat now to the ones at Whisk. Chose to split a Bison burger with a friend and enjoyed it– definitely a leaner taste and that’s a good thing. Ordered a side of sweet potato fries which were actually pretty rockin’ so I have to give them credit where credit is due (although they’re aiming for *burger* perfection are they not?)
Service took pretty long, but I was happily drinking 5 dollar cuervo margaritas so I didn’t really mind. Then when our burger (which we’d ordered medium well so we wouldn’t die of salmonella poisoning) came to the table, it was totally raw (uhh… waiter, this burger looks ridden with potential food poisoning agents). They took it back and made us a new one, and we even got another (free) burger out of the deal, so at least they knew how to make up for their mistake.
The cherry on top during my visit was that they have Rockband night on Wednesdays (sounds like a fun UYE possibility to me…), and my friend and I rocked out on a few songs. The music geek in me loves this silly video game so I’ve got a soft spot for any place that holds Rockband nights. 50 dollar bar tab as a prize for the highest scoring band (IF you stay all the way til the end, which we didn’t– but I’m pretty sure it would have been ours if we had).

In the great Burger Wars of 2009, the two main contenders were 8 oz Burger and Burger and Beer Joint.
The food at 8 oz is always good, I eat here at least twice a month. What I like as a local is the laid back atmosphere at night. Many local Miami Beach politicians and residents have there informal meetings here while enjoying a meal and or a drink.
Also they will put whatever you want on the TV like football game on Saturday afternoon — not at B&B. You have to wait until the Sport bar opens at night. wtf ?
I have always had good service here and it keeps getting better — it may because they know my face or I am a good tipper.
The food is at a premium price no doubt but worth it not to be squeezed in a booth or sitting outside a picnic table like B&B sometimes.
The speciality drinks need some work and the taste is really chicken or feathers depending on how is working the bar but they are all strong.
8 oz is the place you walk to as a local where the other place you take tourist to … even the ones from across the bay in Miami
But to compare the two is like comparing McDonald’s and Burger King, they are basically the same thing but it depends on what you are in the mood for.
