Best sub shop in the area. Good quality meats, fresh ingredients, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. And, they make some great soups too!

About a week ago I was strolling the main street of Metuchen to find a place to eat before an appointment. I stopped inside an Italian place on the corner and they said that they were closed. Most businesses close right after lunch around 2PM until dinner time. Being that I wasn’t from the area I didn’t know that about the town and asked the waiter if he knew of any other places. He told me that if I drove up and down the main street I would be sure to find something… helpful right? So instead of driving I decided to walk a few steps down the street and into a small sub shop called«Sub Place Better.» I have to say I was very pleased with the service. I was there on a Wednesday around 2PM and there was a single guy working there. I entered the sub shop to be greeted by the manager,(I’m assuming), he was very kind and made my food and asked me if I needed anything else.(I recommend the sausage peppers & onions… amazing!) There was a relatively sized menu with decent food and I had the sausage peppers and onions and a side order of fries and a drink. It all came to around $ 12 which was not bad at all. As I sat and enjoyed my food I watched as other people were entering the sub shop and they would be greeted warmly by the manager. The manager was very professional, helping one customer at a time and was very patient with some of the orders that weren’t listed on the menu. The area I was sitting in was clean and well kept. I am guessing the amount of customers increased as the schools were letting out. You could see it was a good place to grab some food and sit and talk with friends about what had happened at work or class. It was a very welcoming place. I would definitely recommend this place and would go there again.

Great sub place! Cheesesteaks(served with peppers, onions, and fries) are the best in the area! The Hawaiian is my families top pick. Turkey, Italian, and tuna are good too(the previous reviewer must have gotten the tuna on an off day). Subs are large(a whole is enough for 2 — 4 people). I usually grab a bag of chips while I’m there or add an order of cheese fries(if only they were homemade fries). And they have free pickles! If you choice to stay and eat you can pick out a tiny cup of macaroni or potato salad or coleslaw from their soda case.

Try any of their subs and see if you agree they’re fresh and delish! Service us always pleasant and although the building is old the place is kept clean.

The freshest sub sandwich in METUCHEN and in the entire area! The family owned sub-shop is the only place I go for subs. The gravy fries and the chicken wings are to die for too! When in the mood for this type of food, there is no better place!

Sub Place Better is the measuring stick to which all other sub shops must live up. Seriously. The only place I’ve ever encountered that was any better was a place in vermont that doesn’t exist anymore. But that’s only because they put stuffing and gravy on their subs. Anywhere I go to try a new sub shop, east coast or west, I think, «good, but not as good as Sub Place Better.»

Good, solid sandwiches and excellent prices. A nice flashback to the 80s as well.

I’ve been to better. The portions are rather large. But the bread was stale, service was disorganized, and the interior is in desperate need of a renovation and updating.

Good food, reasonable pricing and fast service. You order at the counter but they will bring it to your table. The place is dated but clean. I love the firefighter, great pastrami sandwich special with loads of stuff on it. I get the red peppers and ask for extra-extra napkins. Bread is fresh and always overflowing. They have always done a great job when we have had them cater our events. Last time we placed an order for pick up, they didn’t not have one of the items, when I went to pick the order up they explained they did not have one of the items and if we wanted to sub something it in place(pun intended). I gave them an alternate sandwich and it was made before I was totaled up on the register. They apologized and didn’t charge me for it. Even at the height of the lunch crown, you are in and out in not time. Not a big mayonnaise fan but they do have pasta and potato salad and a soup of the day. We are fans and go back when we want to sub… Crazy Cubano Out.

Incredible food. I ordered a cheese steak and I was not expecting the surprise of french fries in it. I asked them to make it extra spicy, but it was just mediocre. Let’s just say I wasn’t reaching for a glass of milk afterwards. Meat was cooked properly however. The design of this place wasn’t a complete diaster and they serve your food to you in the back. The waiter/person who took orders wasn’t the most pleasant person in the world… but what can you do. The name is ridiculous, but I would stop in. Good meal.

The staff is a little unfriendly… sarcasm…I asked the guy how he was with a smile and got a blank stare lol. the place is a little uhmm sketchy. but I love a turkey and provolone sandwich gotten here a couple times and most of the time they’re very good sandwiches. Ocassionally somethings missing from the sandwich and doesnt taste right… but when they’re good they’re really good. Meh

Friendly staff and very good subs. Great hot peppers and you can never lose with the«Crimefighter», just have plenty of napkins handy. All their island named subs are tasty. Priced right.

Solid sub place. They’re not shy about loading up the sandwiches, and the meats, cheeses, and breads are always fresh. I always go with turkey — regular or oven roasted.

Dumb name. Great sandwiches. If I ever start my own business, it will also probably have some terrible pun. Like, my idea for an Indian/Chinese fusion restaurant: A Long Wok Off a Short Paneer. The sandwich I got was great, and pretty cheap. It was called Mr. Sub – basically just the Italian style«throw whatever meat we have» kind of sandwich. Good. $ 6 for a half, which is almost too big for one person. They currently have this special going where for some of the cheaper sandwiches you can get a whole size for $ 5. You just need to order one more thing. So you could feed 3 people for around $ 10. That is a great deal, you freaks!
