I’m always surprised that WD doesn’t carry more local products other than the obvious. There regular grocery prices I find to be high but they have buy one get one sales weekly and if you stick to that then you can get some good deals. However, I find the sale items sell out super fast so don’t sit on that circular, hop to it!

Really Winn Dixie? California Strawberries? Really? I don’t expect you to out-local a Louisiana business like Rouse’s in supporting local vendors, but I figured Strawberries would be a layup. One of your taglines is «Local flavor since 1956» for crying out loud! Even if your definition of local is based on the location of your corporate offices in Jacksonville, Florida you’re still off. Here’s a quick pro tip, Ponchatoula, LA. It’s pretty close to the Greater New Orleans Area, and they have strawberries! In fact a whole Strawberry Festival. And the season ends at the end of this month! This has been the snarky, «Really?!» portion of this review. Other than that, standard Winn Dixie. I remember when it was built to replace the one in Airline Park. Over the years they’ve tried different things to try and keep up with Walmart making themselves out to be this daily destination where you’d want to sit and have lunch while you shop. I’m glad that didn’t last long, because the space is better utilized for the bakery and deli. In today’s trip the meat section seemed to be running out of ground meat, which surprised me considering it’s Good Friday and we’re mostly Catholic around here. But then again, I shouldn’t be too surprised, because what I was I there to buy? Ground meat. Which I guess makes me a bad Catholic. Other than that it’s a decent and close store if I need to pick something up for Mom since it’s in her neighborhood.

I would consider this to be a «mid size» Winn Dixie — not nearly as large as the stores in River Ridge and on Williams in Kenner, but not as small as the one in Harahan or my local one on the Westbank Expressway in Marrero. That being said, they have a great selection and helpful employees. There are always hot food items, as well as a salad bar, deli, seafood, meat, bakery, and more. Winn Dixie in general is really hit and miss as far as pricing. On some items, they are cheap, with others, you’ll end up paying twice as much as other grocery stores. They put out a weekly ad that is posted on their website. Keep an eye out for BOGO sales and other promotions to get stuff cheaply!

I shop here often and find getting a salad from the salad bar a quick and healthy alternative, however today when I stopped in the quality control person must have been on vacation all week as fruit flies buzzed around the offerings, and the mayo based salads were turning brown and crusty.
