This place was absolutely awful. I got in late after my sisters were checked in and got there thinking I could just go start to sleep. Walk into a non smoking to the smell of smoke. Sheets were filthy and had burn marks in them. We had to BLEACH the bathroom and still then it was gross. We all woke up to some kind of bites and left as soon as the morning came. I do not recommend.

We come to Phoenix fairly regularly and have stayed at this place roughly 4 times now. First starting out it was great — rooms were very clean and well maintained. The past two times not so much. We got stuck in a room that was basically a smoking room(despite assurances it was not), and just about everything with a moving, operating part was falling apart: faucets, stovetop dials, sheets didn’t fit the beds. This last time we had enuf and called the office and asked for another room since the smoke was so bad; they said they’d have one the following day. That wasn’t going to work, so they finally relented and moved us to another room. No smoke smell in this one, but despite the aroma of bleach indicating a cleaning had taken place — that was not the case. The pictures speak for themselves. In that we are paying a pet fee($ 10 per nite), I’m not exactly clear how our pet could make this floor and room furnishings any dirtier. Guess we will call it quits for this motel after all…

First off let me say that not being available for late check-ins is absolutely ridiculous. You are in the hotel industry and people arrive at all hours and times when traveling. Corporate needs to take this to heart and make some changes. This being said, we arrived late, around 1:00am but luckily the live in manager was available to let us in. Apparently, they did call at 2:00pm but my crappy phone didn’t relay the message until later. We just flew in and had a red eye flight, so that is why we had the late arrival. The first room given had no sheets on the bed but we had to phone her again and she gave us another room which was nice. The décor is very modern but it is cheaply made. The bed was ok. It was a studio and it had a fridge, microwave, flat screen tv, etc. To me it seemed like a nice motel for a decent price. It had nice landscaping and nice décor. The only downsides were the weird riffraff hanging out on the porches. It seems like these motels with kitchenettes always have weird people staying there like its their home, and not many people who travel coming to stay there. It is sad because us travelers want to have a nice cheap place to stay as well. The other downside was the unbearable smell of cigarettes in the room. It was overpowering and I woke up congested the next morning. Also, the room floor was not cleaned that well. As far as the neighborhood, I never thought it was a ghetto, it looked nice to me. Overall, it was a decent stay for a cheap price.

I don’t usually write reviews for large chains – especially when they already have a bad reputation like Motel 6. You generally know what you’re getting into. It’s not like you’re staying at the Ritz Carlton. That being said, this was by far the worst motel I’ve ever stayed at and I’ve stayed at some sketchy places. Be warned. I take full responsibility for booking a hotel in the middle of the Mesa ghetto. Embarrassing to admit as a former Phoenician, but I had no clue Mesa(or at least this area) was so bad. I just think of the East Valley as being nice and upscale. Noooo. Good Lord, no. We pull up to crack heads and women with babies in arms sitting on the curb outside the motel. Yikes. Kim greeted us nicely enough even though we were later than expected, saying she was about to close up and leave. Had she told me the office closed at a certain time when I called for the late check-in, I would have been there earlier but fine. She«upgraded» us to a suite. It looked decent – fairly clean with a small kitchen and two beds. She called to check on us shortly after we settled in and we said we were fine. So far, so good. But then… I was already sprawled out on the sheets before my fiancé found dried blood on his side. I freaked out. Office was closed. I was beyond disgusted and super irritated that I now had zero options other than to stay put. All other hotels in the area were booked solid due to March Madness. We ended up sleeping on top of the second bed with no blanket just to be safe. The room reeked of smoke so badly I had a headache. As we saw the next day, the maids smoke as they’re cleaning so, you know, not shocking the place smells like a dive bar. In the morning, I showered with my flip flops on and dried myself off with a shirt. The towels were so thin and worn out; I couldn’t trust they were even clean. Upon check-out, I told the front desk about the blood and was offered a full refund. Happy to not have to argue and happier to be out of that awful place, we went on our way. Days later, I saw no refund and called. I was told Kim was in a meeting but that she would call me back. Never happened. I gave it a couple more days and called again. After explaining the crime scene for the third time and asking why I had not yet been refunded as promised, Kim(who was, in fact, the manager) hit me with a rude, «FIRSTOFALL, I don’t even know who you are.» Customer service 101… be aggressive. Check. Suddenly, her memory came flooding back because she said, «Oh so why didn’t your boyfriend tell me about this when I called and asked if everything was okay?!» Apparently, you have five minutes to scan the room for DNA or all bodily fluids are fair game. There was no apologizing, only confrontation and claims that«nobody told her nothin’ about a refund» as if it was my responsibility to facilitate employee/management communications. LOL what? Kim finally relented and gave the refund at which point her attitude changed and she apologized. Strangely enough, the whole interaction is why they get 2 stars instead of 1. I feel like you do after a fist fight with your best friend. You’re still pissed, but you took to the streets and hashed it out with your bare fists like respectable adults. Sure there was some blood, but you feel stronger and more connected for having gone through it. So it was, my relationship with Kim. So if you like to end your hotel stays scarred yet victorious like you just went to war, stay at Studio 6. Just bring your own sheets.
