History
Established in 1983.
Al Schmesier founded the firm in Albany, NY, and worked in that office until he brought in Arlen Olsen, a former U.S. Patent Examiner, to be his partner about 10 years later. In 1994, Mr. Schmeiser moved to Arizona and Mr. Olsen became the Managing Partner in the New York office. Since 1994, the firm has grown to just under 50 employees with access to approximately 25 patent and trademark professionals.

Member of the Maricopa County Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association («AIPLA»), a former president of the Eastern New York Patent Law Association, and a member of the International Trademark Association («INTA»). As an adjunct professor at Phoenix School of Law, Mr. Schmeiser teaches patent law to students interested in intellectual property.
Through his offices in Arizona, New York, and Utah, the firm offers free initial consultations to individuals and corporations to explore their needs and to identify intellectual property that may require protection. Telephone consultations are also available. In 2012, the USPTO issued 537 patents to clients of the firm.
Admitted to practice law in the State of New York and is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is admitted in the United States District Court, N.D.N.Y. and with the Supreme Court of the United States.
