Dance FX Studios’ specializes in creating comfortable and confident social dancers in adults (singles and couples) who want to HAVE FUN learning to Swing, Salsa, Argentine Tango, Country Dance and more. We’ll prepare you for date nights, weddings, cruises, clubs and nights out with friends. Our unique approach to teaching real-​world moves will give you the confidence and ability to dance anywhere.

You can now also come and dance to LIVE MUSIC every few weeks as we feature different bands and styles of music at our monthly parties.

History

Established in 2001.

Dance FX Studios is celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2011! We are so excited and proud to offer Arizona residents quality social dance instruction in our beautiful location in Mesa 6 days a week. From humble beginnings in Tempe 10 years ago to our current 5,000 sq. foot, two room studio, we have come a long way. In the past several years, we have expanded beyond private dance instruction and wedding dance lessons to now include Zumba (and other fitness classes), 4 week group dance courses and monthly dance parties with LIVE MUSIC. It is our mission to continue to create confident social dancers in couples and singles Valley-​wide and beyond.

I began dancing at the age of 3 and have grown more addicted to the amazing benefits of dance with each passing year! After 15 years of teaching partner dancing, I am still excited about having the opportunity to better the lives of those that come into Dance FX. Whether its adding more romance into a marriage to helping to relieve stress to building confidence, I look forward to empowering couples and singles through dance. Fortunately, my husband (and co– creator of Dance FX Studios) and I share this passion and have been blessed to find amazing staff that also seek to help others.

The instructors were very friendly and patient, the owner not so much. For the amount of money we were paying I expected better attentiveness and better customer service from everyone. I spoke to another friend who had also attended the same place and they mentioned the same thing. We had an emergency come up towards the end and were unable to finish the classes. I understand their is no refund but Nicole showed no tact or compassion. I would not recommend Fx studios to a friend.

I loved working with the owner Nicole. She was so attentive when I asked her a million questions before finally choosing to do a Salsa Night Out, and then later on a four week salsa group class. The salsa group class was really fun. We got to learn a whole dances worth, and the instructor went slow enough for everyone to pick up the steps. I definitely want to try the two step class they offer… and I hear from others that the Zumba is amazing. So I will be looking into both of those classes as well. Even though I’m making my bf take me, I’m pretty sure he’s excited as well. I even want to retake the salsa classes just so he can learn too! I definitely recommend Dance FX to all my clients and friends!

Overall I can see the vision this dance studio has and perhaps the way I wanted to learn and the things I wanted to learn could not be taught by the instructors I had. One was too technical the other, not technical enough. I felt as though I barely learned anything from either but I did learn some that is why I am giving this place a decent rating.
Overall however, these lessons are not worth 100 $ an hr to me, (I rounded up) I believe I could get better lessons for a much more reasonable price. Perhaps the dance style I prefer is a little too complex to teach the way they teach all the others, that could also be why other studios don’t even bother teaching hip-​hop lessons. Either way, not bad by any means but certainly far from what I had hoped.

**Introductory Private Class Review**
I was so excited to get started with private lessons, yet unfortunately dismayed after our introductory class. $ 40 dollars is a bit steep for a teaser.
After setting an appointment and paying up front, we came in to meet the private instructor. He sat down with us and awkwardly went through a couple ice-​breaker questions. I’m all for that, normally, but we had JUST gotten through a four week group class, so it was somewhat tedious.
Then, we jumped into the introduction of the four basic dance styles we would be learning. Part of it was reviewing fundamental leading and following steps, which I found reinforced what we already learned.
Things were going well. I felt like we were all loosening up (the instructor included) until the sales pitch. About 45 minutes into the hour-​long class we sat back down at a table to talk details. The deal was that we sign up for a package of 5 private classes (or 10 classes). When I asked if we could do installment payments, we were told «no.» The price per class was around the same as this intro, but I felt like we hadn’t learned all that much. We said we needed to think about it.
I called a few days later to ask about installments and again, nonchalantly told «no.»
Notes:
–The introductory private class is probably great for absolute beginners, but if you already have some skill or solid coordination, you may feel the value is lacking.
— Even though I believe the private lessons would be great, don’t go into the intro class without knowing you will be asked to pay for a prepaid package of sessions. I understand if that’s commonplace, but as a busy couple, we don’t prefer getting locked into an activity with a significant financial commitment up front.

After reading Pat’s review I only think it is necessary to share the email I received from the owner today. I worked with Dance FX through the months of November and December in reference to their marketing and assisted with securing over $ 4000 worth of donations as well as getting all the food donated. I worked for 10 hours the day of the event and ran errands and picked up the donations in good faith. I gave her cost for two banners that I had designed and requested payment from that today. Mind you I under charged her for the event to work on doing additional business. Here is the email I received back. This sums up Nicole’s attitude for sure. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Hi Nicole,
I had sent you the invoice to pay for the step and repeat banner directly to the vendor which was a cost of $ 150.00. I just received a statement from them saying that this has yet to be paid. Please remit payment either to me or the vendor ASAP.
RESPONSE from Nicole:
You’re too funny! How about you take the $ 150 out of the money I paid you in December for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for my company to pay this. I NEVER approved $ 150 for the step and repeat banner as you know. While you’re at it, you can send me back the $ 350 for the remainder of the money I paid you in December that you did not earn. How does this sound?
Also, you may come and pick up your banner holders by this Saturday as they are taking up storage space in my studio. Otherwise, they will be tossed.

Owner has a real attitude issue and doesn’t give a damn about customer satisfaction. Out and out called me a lair on the phone when I complained about the poor quality of his class. Very smug man — seemed to think because he has been in biz 10 years he’ll be in biz another 10. Not with this attitude towards his clients. I say don’t even consider dance lessons there.

Do you know how to ballroom dance? Neither do I and that’s why I headed over to Dance FX Studios this weekend to try and see what I could learn. My fiancé and I were interested in learning a routine for our upcoming wedding and Dance FX offered an introductory consultation for $ 20. The consultation included a 30 min. talking only get to know you session and another 30 min. intro to basic dancing technique. The owner Nicole was really friendly and the studio was buzzing both times we came in.
PROS: Friendly staff, wide open spaces, fun-​looking Zumba class, separate room for private lessons, family friendly, experienced.
CON: Price. And with all that experience comes the money. It’s $ 15 for a drop in class but class packages are available. For our wedding routine the cheapest package was $ 597 which included a mix of our song on CD and five hour-​long dance sessions.
I’d be happy to go back some day and take lessons here but I need to save a bit first!

We had NO idea what we were signing up for. We knew that we needed to learn «the basics» prior to getting married a mere five weeks away (Can we say procrastination?”). I had tried other dance studios in that had the always trying to upsell you feel and been disappointed. Then, we found Dance FX. A bit hesitant, we jumped right in. Not only did they teach us the basics, but they also coordinated a whole routine that didn’t look «too put together» but also not like we were sixth graders swaying. The lessons were packed. Rachel, our choreographer and teacher knew when we needed a break, when we were stumbling or when we needed a «good job.» The dance went fantastically and really mirrored our personalities. They even edited our song down to 2 ½ minutes so the dance didn’t go on and on and on (etc). We walked out on the dance floor wanting to make Dance FX proud of us. We never felt like just another student or another upsell. Once we chose our package, there was no pressure. We have a few lessons left and we look forward to going back. They had to work with an engineer and control freak, type A and did a beautiful job. I would highly recommend Dance FX. You will walk away feeling confidence and accomplished. Thanks!
