If you’re trolling Unilocal to find salsa classes, then I already have an idea you’re a true beginner vs «I’m a salsero who just moved into town and trying to find the hot dance spots»… This review is strictly for beginners w/little salsa experience — their webpage leads you to believe they are teaching beginners lessons but in essence, no. When I initially called asking about the course, I was told class size is very personalized and about 6 – 8 people. In reality, try double that, and it’s people of varying experiences(up to years) which means they move the class far more quickly w/out teaching you basics to accommodate the many people. It felt more like a patterns class, no emphasis on grounding or the basics. If you’re new, you may walk away frustrated unless you have a high enthusiasm to learn offline or have a great dance partner to help you along the way. And yes, there is a girls shortage. so especially you poor beginner guy, you will get lost faster cuz you get less practice. Manny and Cory are definitely part of the IN salsa crowd, and they know their stuff. They are friendly, watching them dance is beautiful, and many of my salsa friends highly recommend them. but let’s set expectations accordingly… you will need some salsa basics to follow along and bring your camera so you can video tape the patterns and practice outside of class. I would not suggest this class for true beginners, but when you got some grounding(even tiny amt of basics down) or super high enthusiasm to learn, I would highly recommend for those who want to learn more patterns, styling and upleveling their moves.
