What can be said about this amazing place that has not been said already. This is by far my favorite place to go, unwind, and feel alive again. My fiancé and I try to come here once every year or so because it truly is just that — a place that makes you fall in love with nature and those around you.
My fiancé and I stayed here for the first time a few years back on a road trip (the pre-​Inn at Cobbler’s Walk days). We did not know what to expect, except that we had seen the raving reviews on both Unilocal and Trip Advisor. We booked the Garret Room and awaited for the morning (we arrived super late that night). Once the sun rose and we arose out of beds, we knew that we had found a hidden gem. The views out of the window — to the ocean, to the llamas, to the beauty that is Mendocino — was absolutely breathtaking. We quickly got out of beds, and embarked on the journey that Glendeven has to offer.
First, the LLAMAS. My hidden obsession, my favorite love. John, the owner, is incredibly patient with anyone who wants to discuss lamas. He showed me how to approach them and even how to sneak an eskimo kiss (or two!!). After spending literally hours hanging with the llamas, we went to feed the chickens. Upon your arrival, a sweet note, a beautiful flower, a delicious brownie, and chicken feed meet you. That chicken feed can be used to literally feed the hens that lay your breakfast eggs — pretty awesome, right!
After doing that, we went on to the nearby hikes which are explained in the informational booklet provided in each room. Extraordinary! Extraordinary! Extraordinary!
Every about this place is just that — extraordinary. And I am not even exaggerating it. Let me walk you through —
You first roll in and find your parking spot. What I mean by «your» is that John and his staff do this sweet surprise where you have a designated parking spot which welcomes you to your stay. You go in and check in and everyone is beyond friendly. You get a key to your room, as well as an entrance to one of the main rooms (where there is a fire, games and cards, tea and coffee on demand, and delicious homemade treats!). Then you enter, read your sweet note and put a brownie in your mouth, and plop onto, what has to be the most comfortable bed on the planet.
After that, you decide that it is about 5:30pm and its Wine Hour. YUP. WINE. HOUR. Every evening between 5:30pm — 6:30pm, John and his staff host a wine hour where they give you pours of delicious Husch (an Anderson Valley winery) with a yummsicle treat on the side (orzo pasta, cheese and crackers, whatever is on the menu for that day).
Now on some nights, there is something called Bistro 150. Now this, Ladies & Gentleman, is definitely worth your fancy. My fiancé and I have had the pleasure of this dining experience twice, once being during the Mushroom Festival (do yourself a favor and go to Bistro 150 during mushroom season — NOM NOM NOM!). It is a farm to table dinner, with multiple courses, where everything sourced within a number of miles of Little River. That not only includes the vegetables, but it includes the meats, the cheeses, fish, etc. A wine pairing is included if you would like, and those too all come from a short distance away. It really is something else.
After all that, you decide its time to unwind, you shower with all of the delicious EO products that the inn has to offer. You grab one of the diaries near the bed side, add your own entry, and you fall asleep then doze off to the stillness that is Mendocino.
9:00 AM ON THE DOT. A knock. BREAKFAST IS HERE. Every morning, at exactly the same time, breakfast is delivered to your room. It is all organic and straight from the garden and the hens you just fed the day before. It is DELICIOUS and always different. No matter how many days you stay, it is always different — a frittata one day, an omelet another. Fresh fruit one day, a delicious rosemary scone the other. Fresh orange juice, and your choice of coffee, tea, or a hot cocoa.
And bam! You get to start your day all over again.
Since that first trip to Mendocino, my fiancé and I have been a total of four times — the Garret Room, The Pinewood, The Mariner’s Room (Inn @ Cobbler’s Walk), and Etta’s Suite (definitely the favorite). On our second trip, we got engaged at Glendeven because every single time we’ve gone, we fall in love all over again. With no television, and just a view to embrace and a time to enjoy, it is really easy to put the phone down and remember how to talk all night or just sit back and play bananagrams by the fire. This has been our little special place and is as special as home to us. John is beyond welcoming and is always so kind (ask and he may even let you feed the llamas!!!). I really love it here and truly, truly, truly know that you will too.

This is one of the truly fine inns. If you ever stay on the Mendocino coast and don’t stay here you will be sorry. They have everything you could ask for, from the Llamas and chickens outside your door, to the ocean view and gardens. To top it of you get a home made three course gourmet breakfast delivered hot to your door in the morning.

We booked the Barn Loft for a four-​night stay over Thanksgiving. After a windy, rainy, foggy drive through the woods, we arrived late. As we pulled into the drive, the reserved parking space with our name on it was a thoughtful welcome.
The Barn Loft itself does have some funk to it. I won’t lie. The layout is a little peculiar with the kitchen a long narrow room along the back. Steps up and down into the various rooms. I’m not a big fan of carpet, but it was high-​end and brightened up the place. Understand that this is a renovated BARN LOFT and some oddness should be expected and part of the charm. The woodwork, furnishings and amenities are comfortable, clean and well cared for. A fireplace was already stocked with paper, kindling and logs. All we had to do was touch a match to it and settle in to its warmth and a bottle of red wine we’d brought, the rain outside doing its worst.
The rest of our stay was blessed with blue skies. We enjoyed Mendocino and Fort Bragg, but mostly took in the immediate surroundings. The property borders state land. I did my daily run deep into the state park’s well-​curated path along a creek. Dense and green. Wood bridges crossing back and forth over the water. Beautiful. We hiked an easy path down to the beach one day. The section we found was ours alone. The path on the bluffs was flat and easy to hike, with Mendocino in view just north of us.
My daughter spent time with the llamas on the property. John saw my wife and kids down there and came out to offer an opportunity to feed them. My daughter stayed behind to sketch in her book, with all the llamas watching her curiously.
Below the Barn Loft, on the first floor, is a wine-​tasting room. We bought a few bottles they suggested and were not let down.
On our last morning, they dropped off two baskets full of breakfast goodies. The Barn Loft reservation does not come with a breakfast, but they had had two early checkouts so we got to take advantage of what those guests missed. The frittata and fresh OJ were pretty amazing. We left with a desire to turn this kind of Thanksgiving into a tradition.

There’s a lot of really nice things about this place — the rooms are spacious, beds comfortable, lots of windows to show off the surrounding landscape, the surrounding landscape is fabulous, lots of add-​ons if you want, breakfast delicious and plentiful. Staff helpful and courteous.
Downsides are the Wi-​Fi is slow and the walls are thin. We could hear the talking, snoring next to our room — we were in Bay Loft. With no TVs, well nothing to drown out the noise and the shower is made for one. It’s a little corner unit with not great water pressure. Quiet! Close to everything Mendocino too!

We found Glendeven on a travel site, and took a chance. We are frequent guests at B&B’s/Inn’s and really enjoy being pampered. We were not disappointed at Glendeven. The grounds were phenomenal! The room was beautifully furnished, spacious and quite comfortable. The breakfast was simply delicious. We LOVED the Wine Bar (N), ended up having the staff plate some delicious cheese/​crackers so we could stay in our beautiful room for dinner. I really enjoyed all the farm animals and creatures on the grounds, and took many, many photos of the wildlife.
We really needed some downtime to relax and refuel and we got it at Glendeven. Thank you John and your great staff for helping us get exactly what we needed. And, we WILL be back. ***nice touch in having our parking place labeled with our names! And the farewell message on the sign when we left, wishing us safe travels :-)

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last week ⁷⁄₂₇ and we had a wonderful time. The inn is beautiful, looks picturesque. Our room was spotless, comfortable bed with frenchdoors leading to the garden and a beautiful wood burning fire place. In the room, there was two delicious complementary brownies and a cute little bag with corn to feed the chickens. We had a great time walking around the property and seeing the lamas. We had our breakfast in our private deck. The breakfast was delicious. We booked the romance package one; which came with a bottle of champagne, roses and a couples message in the room. The red roses were absolutely beautiful and the message was worth every penny. Upon check out we mentioned we were headed to the botanical garden and John gave us two free admission tickets.

Amazing all around. The inn and grounds are beautiful. The staff are so kind and thoughtful. It is classy, relaxing, and easy access to everything on the north coast. The Wine Bar[n] is a great way to spend some time — with lovely wines from the region and tasty food! You definitely want to spend time here!

This is the best kept secret of Mendocino.
I stayed in the Garret and it included a beautiful view of the ocean. The grounds of the inn are beautifully covered with different wildlife from numerous flowers to beautiful Llamas. The staff was extremely friendly, and I enjoyed the free wine tasting along with the breakfast. New bathroom along with a new mattress was also very nice.
I also based my trip on some of their recommendations and was not disappointed. I believe its called Glendeven 7 on their website.

Had a really nice stay here at the Beach Trail cottage — comfortably sleeps 4, ideally for a family — with all the amenities, kitchen, living room, great view of the ocean. Really nicely

Nice wine bar with complimentary wine and a snack in the evening. Under 21s not allowed in wine bar in the evening — so kids hung out outside and fed the chickens, which were constant entertainment. Llamas on property were also a big hit with the kids.
Mendocino can always be a little tricky with kids — for the stay we did horse riding at Ricochet Ranch, the Skunk train, glass beach and the botanical gardens — all of which were really fun.

Glendeven is a wonderful place to enjoy a quiet, romantic weekend. The rooms are nicely furnished in a cozy style. A wood-​burning fireplace in our room added to the ambiance and the supply of firewood was plentiful. Our balcony provided great views of the property, including the llamas. The buildings are set back farther from the ocean than I had expected, but the ocean still provided a nice backdrop, albeit at some distance.
The breakfast was delicious and felt healthy and light. The complimentary evening wine tasting and hors d’œuvre were a nice touch. The hors d’œuvre was savory steel cut oats with marinara and cheese — a unique combination that was tasty and healthy. Unfortunately, the Saturday night dinner was cancelled because not enough guests had registered.
The owners are involved in the day-​to-​day operation of the inn and their attention to quality and detail is apparent throughout the property. We will definitely be back.

We’ve stayed at Glendeven at least a dozen times over the past ten years — it’s a marvelous place to visit. Jon and Mike are wonderful hosts and the inn is just gorgeous.
The rooms are spacious, views spectacular. We love waking up to hear the gentle clucking of the chickens — and there are no roosters to wake us up too early. we love the walks through the woods and across the street to the bluffs. In fact the park across the way is one of my favorite spots on earth.
We usually have the catered dinner on Saturday night. The food is all locally sourced, a lot of it from the Glendeven garden, and quite tasty. If you want to venture further afield, be sure to get Jon’s recommendations — they’re always spot on no matter what you’re in the mood for.
Last but not least: Llamas! They’re so much fun to watch.

Just a couple miles South of Mendocino, and a 10 – 15 minute drive into Fort Bragg. Not sure where to start other than this place was amazing. We have definitely added this place to our weekend getaway trips. Will definitely be coming back.
We stayed in the Bayview Suite from Friday-​Sunday. We arrived after taking Highway 1 up from San Francisco and I was pleasantly surprised to find a parking spot with my name on it. After checking in and given a brief overview of their grounds (and about their lamas!) we made our way into the Farmhouse to the second floor. The farmhouse has one room on the ground floor, two on the 2^nd floor, and their 3^rd room is on the 3^rd floor/​attic (called the Garret).
Our room was very spacious and had a very relaxing feeling to it. Our was not a traditional suite, but the layout served to separate the living area and the sleeping area without a door like the other room I was able to take a peak in. Their was a working wood fireplace that we used our second night and the bed was great. The view in the morning was phenomenal, overlooking their Lamas grazing on the grounds and the ocean just out in the distance.
We had breakfast out on the balcony enjoying the weather and view. We were promptly served breakfast in room, and everything was delicious. There wasn’t too little food, and not too much, that I felt content, but not stuffed. This is something very difficult to accomplish as I eat a lot. I only wish their was more orange juice, as that was delicious.
Because of their building setup and in-​room breakfast, you don’t really see a lot of your neighbors, which gives an added feeling of privacy. We were originally looking to stay at a cottage type place where we would have our own stand alone unit, but Glendeven provided the perfect balance between privacy and normal hotel amenities.
The only thing I would do differently is to pre-​book the couples in-​room massage before we arrived. Same with the reservation at their Bistro 150 for dinner. I didn’t realize their Bistro would be so busy especially at the end of their off-​season. And they just couldn’t get through to their masseuses as they hire local massages to come and do their in-​room massage.
All in all, this place was fantastic, and a perfect weekend getaway. Our only regret was we could not stay another night. But that only means we will definitely have to go back!

The Glendeven is a true gem of the California coast. My wife and I came here for a few nights for our honeymoon and to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the Bay. From the beginning of our stay, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
The Glendeven has a splendid 3-​course morning breakfast that includes their farm-​fresh eggs and a complimentary wine and hors d’œuvre hour every day from 5:30 to 6:30. Additionally, they have complimentary baked goods and liqueur in the farmhouse common area. Also, did I mention that the whole thing is a farm? There’s a greenhouse, an edibles garden, a few chicken coops, beehives, and llamas? Pretty cool for a bed and breakfast.
The accommodations exceeded expectations. We stayed in the carriage house, which is a very private room (no shared walls) on the second floor. The bed was large and the sheets were high quality and high thread count. The bathroom was great; the shower was very large and had two shower heads. The room had two fireplaces, a flat screen tv, and a dvd and book library for some simple entertainment. The living area also had a very comfortable sofa, and the glendeven provides blankets for warming up on the couch. The room also has a small balcony with two chairs; perfect for when the weather is good.
The concierge desk was extremely helpful. They arranged reservations at a really nice restaurant for us and even packed my wife and I a gourmet picnic lunch (along with full cutlery) that we took on one of the many trails connecting to the Glendeven.
The Glendeven is the perfect combination of stunning accommodations, friendly staff, great local food and wine, and ocean views. This is the perfect place for couples! We’re definitely coming back.

I was torn… wish I could give ⁴¹⁄₂ stars. Dylan was an excellent innkeeper, yet quite busy being the only one there. When we 1^st arrived, he was tied up on the phone for several minutes before he could greet us.
The room was great, lots of nice little touches including a ready-​to-​light wood burning fire place (we stayed in March)… cozy. Breakfast was delivered to the room in a picnic basket… also fun and convenient. One more reason to stay in your pajamas!
We fed their chickens, drank their wine, and partied with their Llamas. Dylan was a helpful guide determining where we should eat and helping us navigate the area. We walked the path across the street that led us to a beautiful view of the shore.
Mendocino seem to have lots of B&Bs, but if we return I’m positive we will pick Glendeven.

Positives: Good breakfast (but heavy on the wheat and dairy), great walking trails and trail to the beach, llamas, chickens and bees. Great bed and sheets.
Not so greats: We stayed in the Garden Room which was more like Freeway and Parking Lot Room. Very loud and at least once a night headlights shown right into the bedroom and the bed. Staff including the owner — is not flexible or responsive to guests needs. We were greeted at the front desk not with «Welcome to Mendocino» or some other pleasantry, but «You owe XX, when do you want to pay it?» We had several interactions before and after our stay that were a lot of time and effort on our part and ultimately not satisfying. I would definitely not go again.

Very interesting Unilocal comments – surprised everyone loved the place so much. The place is nice. it deserves more than one star, but i am alerting readers to consider other places in the area. The place is very overpriced and weak on their offering. Office help was downright rude. Place has very little to offer compared to other spots in the area – went to meet some friends at Hermitage House up the road – they were paying half as much for a room twice as nice – pay attention to other spots before committing to stay here – Place is not bad, but be sure it is what you wantSOMEONE IS QUESTIONING IF I STAYED HERE OR NOT

1. would not take AMEX, wanted another card
2. when i asked for an ice bucket to chill some champagne they wanted to know why i didnt put in the frdg – which i never knew they had
3. They bring breakfast at 9am – my body is on Central time – that is 11 my time – when i go to get coffee they only have cookies, not some breakfasty thing
4 The lamas dont like to be teased. We talked about them behind their backs

Really love it here! When I arrived I immediately started to relax. They reserve you a parking spot so no parking stress, beautiful gardens and the llamas make it so peaceful. Only 6 minutes away from the downtown and ocean (you can see the ocean from the property too). Every morning at 9 AM they bring breakfast made with their fresh chicken eggs. Such a paradise :)

We recently stayed at the Garret room when visiting the Mendocino area. It’s a beautiful property and staff was very friendly. I really enjoyed the breakfast but was sorry we didn’t get to try the rosemary scones that I’ve read reviews about. The orange juice was fresh, hot chocolate was yummy and the egg preparations were delightful!
The Garret room is the top most room so you have plenty of privacy and are away from the noise from the other rooms, however at night we could hear the cars/​trucks on the road since we had the windows open a bit. Being on the top floor, the shower pressure was extremely low the first day we were there but after telling the reception desk they were prompt in making adjustments so that it was better for the remainder of our stay.
The brownies in our room awaiting our arrival upon check-​in were fabulous. The Glendeven pays attention to details which is appreciated. They have your name on a designated parking space, a hand written note welcoming you to their property with the brownies, wine/​drinks available during «happy hour», and a selection of cookies downstairs for guests. Also when you leave, the parking space sign changes to wish you a safe trip!
I would recommend this B&B to others looking for a place to stay in the Mendocino area.

I am so sorry for the experiences you outline here, and would appreciate the opportunity to hear more. I regret that i wasn’t here during your stay, which is an unusual occurrence, but at times necessary. Positive guest experiences should not rely on the owner’s presence, and I would love to hear more about that, if you would be able to take a moment to speak with me.

To Date I have still heard nothing from the owner about my disappointment and my unhappy stay at this B&B. He asked to follow up with me and seek a resolution. But this shows that customers are not thought of highly. I am still willing to hear from the owner, but I’ll be looking for another B&B to stay at and enjoy while in Mendocino.

It’s rather hard to be original with my review, since many folks before me have described Glendeven exactly as I would — relaxing, beautiful, private, and warm.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days recently as part of our «mini-​moon,» and we couldn’t be happier with our choice of lodging. We split up our stay in two rooms — Briar Rose and The Eastlin Suite. Both were fantastic. Briar Rose is extremely private, quiet, and has some of the best views one could imagine. The private balcony was a perfect spot to enjoy breakfast (more on that shortly), a glass of champagne, or just conversation. It’s also prime real estate to watch the llamas in action. Eastlin is another wing of the property, and while not as private it’s a much larger room with a nice deck and excellent views (hard-​pressed to find any non-​ocean views at Glendeven). Both excellent choices — the beds in both rooms were extremely comfortable and roomy.
The in-​room breakfasts were a highlight; the fresh egg dishes from the chicken coop on-​site were delicious. The Wine Bar (n) was another great on-​site option, with affordable wine flights, great cheese and meat selections, and a great selection of Anderson Valley wines (all at reasonable prices, not marked up from the wineries).
We also attended a dinner at Bistro 150, their farm-​to-​table cuisine located across the street at their sister property, Inn at Cobbler’s Walk. Very reasonably priced (even with wine pairings), it was a great option for very fresh — and walkable — dining in the Little River/​Mendocino area. Highly recommended.
The staff was fantastic as well — from John (the owner) to Dylan, Adam, and Oralia, we felt welcomed from the beginning. Oralia took us around Anderson Valley for an all-​day wine tour that was really fun; it’s a great add-​on that Glendeven offers and it’s a must if it’s your first time in the Anderson Valley or if you’re a wine aficionado. We came back with 7 cases of wine so I guess you could say we were sold on the Anderson Valley wineries…
Overall, Glendeven is a 5-​star option in Mendocino and we will return as soon as we can — and likely every year on our anniversary. Thanks John and team — and say Hi to the llamas for us (we miss them).
