Marriott Memphis East

I spend about 250 nights staying in Marriott hotels with my business. The room in this hotel was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The waitress at the restaurant Tiffany was absolutely the highlight of this stay. She was very friendly and extremely accommodating. She should be training everyone else on staff. I’m not sure if it’s a Memphis thing, but out of the two Marriott properties that we have stayed in, neither one had staff that was as friendly or hospitable as they are in other cities. I felt like I was in the way. Bottom line, it’s a fine property. You will be in a very clean room and sleep on a very comfortable bed. Just don’t expect to get the warm and fuzzier from any of the staff. Unless you have Tiffany. Tiffany is awesome!
There is no charge for parking which was very nice.

Nice facility. Horrific & insulting service — primarily @ front desk. Walked out & cancelled reservation after a bit. No response from Manager OR Marriott Customer Service. 61 nights so far this year @ Marriott hotels. I won’t EVER return to this one…

Horrible experience during judicial conference, had to move to 4different rooms, old section is terrible, had to move to newer section. Girl who said she was manager (evening) was no more than front desk clerk. Spoke to front desk manager he was worse. Never saw GM to complain. I have stayed all over the country and this was the worst hotel experience I ever had. Tried to complain to corporate and they didn’t care as less. Gave me a confirmation complaint number that did absolutely nothing. Surprised Marriot has their name on this building. Corporate office was only concerned about money and no customer service. When I asked front desk staff name of GM they didn’t even know. I will never stay at another Marriott again.

From the minute I walked into this hotel the customer service was outstanding. The staff was friendly and gracious and took care of everything I needed. The room was very nice and housekeeping was some of the best I’ve seen. The location. Is central to everything in Memphis. Easy access to shops, restaurants and entertainment. I will definitely stay here again when I am back in Memphis. I have already recommended it to my friends and family.

I have stayed at 140 different marriott properties this year. By far the worst front desk service I have experienced. Changed my rate because I changed cards. I was told the front desk supv had no authority to help a customer — the GM made that rule. Rooms are much smaller than normal full service Marriott. Other great hotels in the area!!!

Absolutely worst internet service, after months and months of excuses that the Internet would be fixed it’s still the worst internet I have ever experienced. On average the speed is 50−100k per second, bellsouth dial up 15 years ago was much better. Very disappointed that this property cannot fix this problem.

The Wifi is $ 9.95 a day. This is unacceptable. I spent $ 209 to stay here for one night and they can’t comp wifi? Many Marriott properties still charge for this. When I stay at IHG hotels they don’t charge for wifi. It seems silly to me.
Marriott, this is 2014. The days of charging for wifi are over.

We got a great deal on this hotel, but didn’t really realize how great a deal until we got there– this hotel is very nice! It’s clean, modern, and has great amenities like a bar and a small restaurant. The hotel rooms are sleek and a good size. The bathroom has this lotion that I am now obsessed with, this citrus woodsy lotion that is incredible. I looked up the brand and the junt is like $ 40 for a little bottle!
The only detractor for this hotel is that it’s one way all the way around it, so if you miss the entrance (and it’s easy to miss) you get to loop all the way around again. «Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!» ran through my mind a few times trying to get into this place. Be careful, Memphians are terrible drivers and you might get rear-​ended trying to figure this place out. And I write that with love as I am an ex-​Memphian.

This was a Priceline hotel and was a real bargain. Good service and a large comfortable room made for a good stay.

The hotel is nice as are the rooms, BUT I can’t believe they have the nerve to charge for Wifi here. I’d be willing to not stay here again and go somewhere cheaper for free wifi. That’s just not something I expect to have to pay for at a decent hotel in 2014.

Pros: new, clean, and comfortable. Staff was friendly and location was convenient for our stay. The bedding was comfortable, the TV and electronics were up to date, the bathroom was nice and shower was decent. free parking and no resort fees mandated.
Fair price point. (there for a wedding, so may have gotten a better rate than others)
cons:
–no room safe, but you can get a box at the front desk
–breakfast (at least on weekend) was 7 to 9 am. ends too early for a relaxing weekend and starts to late for a business person. food was OK
–bar was good but it closed 1130 on a sat night. really?, the place was busy!
–wifi was not free
i would probably stay there again.

Reviews but this hotel surprised me. Great staff, the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in at a hotel, clean, updated, breakfast and dinner were great. All good things. Great place to stay in Memphis

This could very easy be a 5 star hotel but I did have a few issues but nothing that will keep me from staying again and I will be in town again this weekend and I will stay hear. My shower didn’t drain well or maybe it did because the water rain out on the floor because the slope was off. Secondly, my key had to get reset twice.
The service was GREAT and the room was also GREAT! Everything was in top notch and I will stay hear again as I stated earlier when in town for another meeting and I have three brother that live close by. I may even stay hear on personally visits also. LOL! Nothing like having your own space!

The room: clean, updated and comfy! Nice coffee set up and the refrigerator is a plus! Got our room on a priceline deal. The lobby was crowded and busy, bar was hopping! Our floor (3^rd) made me realize I should have asked about the tour bus in the parking lot and the fact everyone seemed to know each other. And, it was loud– hallway conversations, doors slamming– not very quiet. If guests aren’t with a group… Separate them!!! Put them on a different floor! And I agree… Free wifi is everywhere except here! For a quick overnight it’s not worth it but would have liked to use my iPad)-: this would be nice if it was quiet but I am glad we didn’t pay more)-:

This was the wedding hotel we stayed at when we got to town. This place is a but confusing to get to. Ignore google (gasp!) and keep going east on Poplar till you are able to u-​turn after the 240 exit. Entrance is the third in your left.
When I went to checkin, the receptionist knew right away who I was and because I had tried to check in via mobile phone, but didn’t quite finish the process because I rejected some option. She said she figured it out and had me squared away already. Service bonus points!
The rooms are updated and all the fixtures are really nice and the toiletries they provide are really nice (Bath and Body Works). My only complaint is that there is no safe and all the bedside plugs are on one side. If you’re a bathtub kind if person, maybe this hotel is not for you. We loved the large shower. The bathroom door slides open to reveal a closet, so you can’t have the closet, and the bathroom door open at the same time.
We left the privacy tag on our door both nights, so we didn’t experience the housekeeping. But one housekeeper did ask how we were doing when we were leaving. More service bonus points!
The parking lot is a bit confusing because you exit a different way from the entrance, but at night, they block off the exit. The hotel bar closes at 11, but still a nice place to hang out with some friends. I know there is breakfast and a menu available, but we didn’t get to experience it. Also, there is no free wifi.
Overall, a nice hotel, but an extra star for the great service.

Pros–
Check in was quick and friendly.
Room was set at 66 degrees — this is good for my radiating husband, AC unit kept up overnight so it stayed cool. Room and bed was clean, spacious and aside from lacking a fridge, was great.
Shower pressure was also good (important for hubby!)
Room service was quoted as going to take 40 minutes, it took 20. The lady who delivered it was very friendly and the food was hot, tasty and reasonably priced for hotel food. We ordered the fried chicken salad (with grilled chicken) and the cheddar, bacon burger.
Cons —
No free wifi — inexcusable in today’s society!
While breakfast selection was pretty generic and tasted ok, I ended up biting into a piece of plastic that was amid my chopped pineapple. Not cool!
We heard nothing but running water — all freakin’ night! like someone above us had a shower, all night. UGH.

Got in around 6:30 pm for a meeting tomorrow morning. Hadn’t been to Memphis in a few years, and couldn’t remember this property. Turns out it had been a Holiday Inn and had been shut down, gutted, and reopened as a Marriott!
Nice property and friendly staff — also found good rates (AAA can be your friend!) for a regular room. Thought the bathrooms were nice. Walk in shower in mine, no tub. Liked the look overall.
Also liked the free parking (I get free internet because I’m top tier status with Marriott, so that’s not a biggie for me.) And internet is free in the lobby, I think.
But biggest shout out would be for the young woman working behind the bar. I opted for doing dinner there, and she was just social enough. Good personality, not too clingy, if you know what I mean. Had Fried Oysters and Blackened Catfish with cheese grits. Was very good!
To my mind, it’s what a full-​service Marriott property should be. Nice place, good location, good staff, good food, fresh clean rooms.

The other night (or shall I say early morning), I was cruising down Poplar, and I saw a Marriott. I knew there was a Marriott off of 240, but maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. Apparently there are 2 of them off of 240. Long story short, a few months back, I got a reward certificate for a free night at any Marriott, to be used by 4÷29÷13.
Well, I guess I either forgot about it, or pushed it back, but I noticed that I should probably use it or lose it! So I called up the Marriott line (Sunday afternoon), told em what I wanted, and they put in the reservation. That simple. They even told me it was a new property. So that was exciting.
Yes, I spent the night in a hotel in a city where I stay in. Shit happens. It gave me an excuse to write another review.
So I packed my bag (my laptop, and my work clothes) and off I went. I decided to kidnap my roomie, as we had nowhere to be until later Monday.
As we approached Poplar, I noticed you have to take kind of a Uie to get there, as Poplar splits. So keep that in mind, its the last entrance on the left before 240.
Parking is free, and was easy to get a spot. I could tell, it really was new! The lobby is spacious, with white brushed tile and looks like walnut for wood. I would like to say it is pretty close to «chic’» but still knowing it is a Marriott. It looked like they were having some lobby party, but we wanted to check out the room. So I got to check in, and ride it on up.
As we got up to the room, I noticed the key entry was like a magnetic circle thingy (like they have on the doors @ the Peabody) — I have know idea what in the hell the technology is called.
The room was overlooking 240, towards the city, and the room was a nice size, and clean. To say the least, it wasn’t bad for free, and I am actually kind of surprised it was only listed as a category 3 (out of 7) hotel!
The only downside is having to pay for internet (even though I am a silver elite member), but it was $ 10 for 24H (idk, maybe I will get reimbursed?). Can’t complain about the bandwidth, as I am STILL waiting on mine to get fixed at the apt.
The TV was a decent size, about a 37′ or a 42′. The beds were comfy, along with these really bright ass reading lights. That was cool. There was also an iPhone radio alarm clock.
The bathroom had a single sink, lined with marble and the same type of wood in the lobby (ok, now I think about it, maybe its cherry?). The sinks and tub were made of Kohler nozzles, and had pleasant streams of water to cleanse the mind, body and soul. Did I really just say that?
When I woke up the next day, I was shocked to see that the parking lot was empty with the exception of 2 cars, and then I realized everyone else probably works 9−5s…
This is a new, solid choice in East Memphis that if you use Marriott a lot, you would not be disappointed. And only having to pay for internet, you can’t beat that! I will surely tell my friends and family about this place if they do not want to stay downtown…
