If I could give negative stars I would. Like the reviews before me, I bought a groupon hoping to find a good salon in Memphis because I am not from the area. Instead, it was a hassle in itself to make an appointment(called 3 times) and I showed up to my appointment time today 20 min early… what do you know, they didn’t have my appointment. Cynthia was the woman I had an appointment with and she was so rude when explaining that she didn’t have time to see me today. So instead I went to Elite Nail Spa and got a wonderful gel manicure and received a refund for my groupon as I will never go back to J Nails again.

The ladies that work there are very nice, but not very professional. I had a Groupon and it is near my house so that’s why I went. My nail tech was a half hour late getting to me because she took some snobby lady before me and crammed her in ahead of me, even though she called me 2 days before my appointment and asked me to move my appointment up a half hour! I waited until she finally finished. She ate almonds while she worked on my nails for my shellac/gel manicure. My nails are not very even. Two have hang nails because she didn’t trim or file them very well. And my thumb nail was trimmed and filed so poorly that the corner is splitting off. Very painful and I have to wear a bandage to keep the corner on it so it doesn’t rip down to the quick. I was not impressed and will not be back.

I have not actually been to this salon, nor am I likely to ever go there. I will explain. I received a gift certificate for a pedicure & gel color from Nails By Shuran just after the new year 2013 as a holiday gift from my aunt and uncle. My aunt gets her nails done there. The g.c. was NOT part of a Groupon but was purchased by my aunt in person on 11÷23÷12 and is hand signed & dated by Shuran. The gift certificate says that it expires 3 months from date issued. It was over a month before I even received it, but that’s really neither here nor there as I have recently learned that it is not legal in TN to have anything less than a 2 year expiration date for gift certificates(Groupon is probably different since a 3rd party is involved.) So, I called on 3⁄20 to see about making an appointment and was told that the g.c. would not be honored because it had expired. Ordinarily, I would have gone for my pedi before now, but I’ve been very ill this year with shingles & am just now well enough to go. The woman I spoke with tried to convince me that it was probably a Groupon & then, insisted that she did not know my aunt(who has a very distinctive name.) She was pretty unpleasant overall. After reading the other reviews, I see I’m not the first person to have a troubling experience — and I was just trying to make an appointment! I’m very tempted to give the g.c. back to my aunt so she can use it — or insist on a refund, if that is possible. I could push the issue and get my pedi, but if I did that, I don’t think I’d want her working on any part of my body. So, I guess I’m just out of luck. Too bad for me. I was hoping for a little bit of pampering. Here’s a link to the TN g.c. law, in case it might help someone else. Only giving one star as there isn’t an option for 0 stars. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere where they know how to run a business and appreciate their customers. Color me — disappointed.

I purchased a Groupon for J’s Nails without knowing anything about them. When I called to make my appointment about a week in advance I could tell they were really booked, but they were able to fit me and my daughter in. They lady at the front told us that she will be taking care of my daughter and my tech will be with me shortly. We had to wait about 10 minutes after our appointment time, but I’m used to going to Asian Nail Spas with a much longer wait so that was no problem. Besides where do you not have to wait? Anyway, my daughter and I were able to get our pedicures at the same time. It was a fun experience. The ladies have a great sense of humor and my daughter and I felt like we had been going there for years. We were pleased with our manicures and pedicures. Our feet felt like baby feet when they were done. We will definetely be returning to J’s Nails.

I have never written a review for any site before, but since I had such a weirdly unearthly experience at this«salon», I thought I’d share. So, first, I went to this salon to receive a mani and pedi for myself after purchasing a Groupon. I thought it’d be a good way to try out some nail salons/spas in Memphis since I travel so much and was finally home for a little while. The mani was ok, but not worth their usual pricey cost, but the pedi was actually one of the worst I’ve received, simply because the tech messed up what I thought was the easiest thing: the actual nail polish application! I was concerned as she was polishing my toes because I’d never seen anyone use her chosen technique, but my concern was confirmed once she was done and my polish looked caked on and somehow uneven! So, being the forgiving person I am, I decided that it may have just been that particular tech and booked an appointment for my mom with the«owner» after purchasing a gift Groupon. I’d made the appointment 2 days in advance and brought the Groupon with me. I was sure this«professional» would demonstrate the quality I was hoping for. First, we walked in and were not greeted. Then, after a while(about 5 minutes) of sitting, we decided to initiate the ask regarding the appointment I’d made for my mom. I told them I had an appointment with Janice. She looked at us, not even acknowledging that she was Janice, then after a while, she finally decided to look at her book. No appointment for me, of course! I let her know that if there was a discrepancy in booking the appointment, just let me know and I’ll kindly find another salon. She didn’t like the word discrepancy very much, I guess, so she gave me a rude, snappy response. So, then she says it may have been put under another tech without her knowing. I thought, wow, that seems strange. Why would that horrible service ever take place?! So, after a while of several nail techs scrambling, I decided to take my mom to Diva Nails and Spa around the corner where the customer service was great, everyone was friendly, and we didn’t feel like outcasts. All in all, this place is very unprofessional, inefficient, and untidy, and the staff seems to be unaware of the most basic best practices regarding customer service.

This business contracts out to nail techs. I personally had my experience with Shuran. I cannot say the entire business is bad but this one nail artist was fairly unprofessional. She requires appointments, which I made. I had purchased a groupon and she redeemed my groupon before I even came in(a few days before my appointment). What if I had need to cancel and use at another time… needless to say I could not print the groupon to bring in because she had already redeemed it prior to my visit. I showed up about 5 minutes prior so that I could pick out nail color etc. I was greeted at the door and told my nail tech would be with me shortly. Having never been there before, I did not know which nail polish I could choose from. Could I choose from anyone’s stack or only her stack? I waited and waited and waited… finally 30 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start, she walked into the front area from her station and exclaimed, «I’m sorry, I did not realize you were my client.» #1 does she not know what appointments she has booked #2 I saw the other tech walk into the station at least 2 times(then walk back out and assure me she would be with me soon). The pedicure was ok. I was a little concerned because the area was very messy and it seemed like she did not know where anything was. She was constantly digging for this tool or that. Then on to the manicure. I wanted a light pink color shellac to match my darker pink toes. I was informed that the color I picked(based on the bottle color which was a baby powder pink) was actually a clear tint. So, Shuran offered to pick me out a more suitable color. The color was totally wrong! Not pink at all! It was like a buff… like I had nothing on my nails at all. She also simply polished my nails, no manicure. Had we not been 2 hours into my supposed to be 1 hour appointment, I would have requested a change but I was already running late for something else. The shellac polish began chipping at the cuticle the very next day, I am assuming because she tried to trim my cuticles after applying the polish. All in all, I would not return to this salon solely based on the clutter, mess, and lack of organization. Prices were fairly steep as well.
