Dollar Rent A Car

Im glad this wasn’t far from the airport! We didn’t need a shuttle to the rental location. Just a short walk from the baggage claim. Ez access to the front desk. We booked our reservation in advance on-​line along with hotel accommodations so we had a confirmation upon arrival. Associate was friendly and efficient with helping us. Wasn’t a long wait to get the car. I was already tired from the flight so I didn’t want to rant about color or style, dent and scratches… just fresh outta the wash. This is a well maintained car service with eco friendly options, with no excessive pressure we took the second car that came along and it was clean and worked just completely fine. Our luggage fit in the trunk and our hotel wasn’t but a 15 minute drive from the airport. We had a full tank of gas and drove all over & the car had very good fuel efficiency and nice drive. Radio even worked well. Wiper too.
On our second day driving, @ a rest stop I noticed something like road kill all over the front passenger tire. Like ketchup but had fur. I figure I ran something over like a rabbit or squirrel. The next day at the post office I asked this man to help me pull out a tail that was hanging out of the tire rim. We tried to use the long stick to pinch the tail but whatever it was, was stuck inside the plastic rim. Like a dead rat or mouse.
Anyways, we filled up the gas before we returned the car and upon our return the employee greeted us & had a clip board checking off but we did not have a receipt from the gas station for filling up the gas full so we were deducted. Such a minor issue, he told us it was in the contract that we signed at the front desk. Anyways, we were free to go. We had a flight to catch back to California! Later when we received our bank statement, we noticed we were charged for not having a gas receipt. So, of course we had to call customer service to reverse the extra charges. Next time we rent a car, we will keep the gas receipts. This was no problem. Great Experience. Overall, my experience with Dollar Rental Car was exactly what I would expect. Despite all the negative reviews. Safe Travels.

Super shady people!!! I accidentally left my jacket in the back seat of the vehicle, filed a lost and found complaint and of course «it can’t be found». It’s because they are dishonest and I am sure sold it by now. I am disgusted by this company and the lack of care they give their customers!!! Spend the extra «dollar» and go somewhere legit!

DON’T USE THIS PLACE!
Make sure you do not get rushed by the people who work at the counter at the Memphis Airport. I was rushed and not explained to at all of what certain fees were, and was told that this was the «Basic coverage that everyone uses», with not explanation of the fees EVEN if I asked. I ended up paying WAY more then needed and was basically lied to.
NEVER AGAIN.

Dollar’s game seems to be to underbid the competition when quoting rates online, but then load you up with extra fees when you check in. I obtained a very good confirmed rate through Orbitz, with insurance prepaid through Allianz, before traveling to Memphis for a funeral. But when I checked in the guy at the counter sneaked in an additional $ 100 for some other «insurance» that I didn’t ask for. Jerks. Dollar will never get my business again, anywhere.

Spend the extra money upfront and go somewhere else that will have better service and honesty– you will end up paying double anyway!
I rented the car for less than 24 hours just to spend the night with my son about 30 miles away and return back to Chicago first thing in the morning. The estimated charges upon reserving the vehicle were only $ 52.38 but I was actually charged $ 112.69– MORE THAN DOUBLE!!! When I arrived I received the right car, that was the only thing that was right about the entire experience. I chit-​chatted with the associate and explained why I was there and even told him I didn’t need the car to go that far but figured it would be cheaper than a cab. Since he knew I had a very early morning flight he asked me if I would be interested in having them fill the car up when I returned, I knew from experience of renting cars i knew the gas would be higher but was going for convenience. He said they would «estimate my charges» for a full tank but would only charge me for the gas I used upon returning, again that sounded right from prior experience of renting cars. I must mention that while at the rental counter I went about my trip, returned the car and came home.
That’s when I checked my CC statement and say I was charged DOUBLE what I was estimated. They had charged me for a full tank of gas when I barely used a quarter tank, and when I called they explained that I signed for that in the contract and should have read it. It didn’t matter what the associate told me because it was in the contract that I know barely ANYONE has the time to thoroughly read over. I thought that this was a reputable company whose employees would be telling me the correct policies and procedures, not that I would have to read over the contract to make sure I wasn’t being flat-​out lied to. Their customer service was horrible. I work in customer service myself and would never have talked to someone they way they talked to me. When I called to explain what happened they were very rude and would only repeat to me that it was «in the contract». No apology for how I was completely misinformed by their associate at the airport. Just a repetitive answer. Needless to say I will never rent from them again and would never recommend them to anyone. I’d rather spend the extra upfront (which ends up being less in the long run) and go for a honest company who cares about their customers.

Reserved a car for 2 days at $ 90, wanted to charge me $ 180. Once I got that fixed, then tried to run my card for $ 350, stated it was «policy».
Crooks.
The staff was excellent, this isn’t a review of them, just Dollar.

The service here was amazing. I called from the airport at 11:00pm when I arrived and the van was there to pick me up. When I got to the rental desk, the car was already waiting for me. The rental agent was very kind and helpful. Kudos to them for being so nice. Car was nice too!!!

We only had one car on hold and surprisingly they let us get another without ordering it in advance. There was trouble starting up the push to start Altima, the car was very clean and smelled fresh but we could not figure out the key.
We were out checking out the downtown area and called Dollar for assistance with shutting down the car and they told us they could come down and tow the car and charge us of the key was damaged. I don’t think they were very accommodating or helpful.
It was easier to return the car than it was to pick up the car.

I could pretty much sum the review up with «you get what you pay for» … Just be careful the women at the counter don’t try to sneak in extra costs like they did for us, then try to make it so inconvenient for you to get your original quoted rate that they hope you will just be okay with paying an extra $ 300 … Nope.
Upside: We looked like undercover Federal Marshals driving through Tennessee and Kentucky in our silver Grand Marquis (with Florida plates to boot). Gotta love the laughs.
Upside: The gentleman that checked us out at the gate as we left the rental site — hilarious. I love it when people make the most of their job and bring a smile to my face. He did just that. I won’t get mad that he called me a «Diva» … ;)

They did reimburse my cab and took full responsibility for this mix-​up. I have used them elsewhere with good success and have been happy.

I was happy with the car and the rental process. I got an intermediate rental, which turned out to be some type of 4-​door, 4-​cylinder, fully automatic black Hyundai. Good pick-​up and brakes, 15,000 miles on it. $ 26 per weekend day. Plus 2 stars for the car and condition.
However, I had a shuttle driver from hell on my way from returning the car to the airport. First, I received a hard time for not letting him handle my bag. Then, I made it abundantly clear I wasn’t up for conversation, and he just kept talking and pushing questions. Finally, the entire time I felt like a piece of meat because he thought he was cute in this whole process. Like it was a game of hard-​to-​get when I literally just wanted him to shut the f*** up. Minus 3 stars.
If I’m ever back around Memphis needing a car, I will rent elsewhere.
Tip: The shuttle guy’s name was «Jerry.»
