Engine light came on a couple years ago in my GTI. Since then I’ve had a couple mechanics tell me it would cost at least $ 2k to address the issue, which would involve pulling out the engine to access my timing chain. Yikes.
I took my car here to get my AC recharged and tires rotated (based on stellar Unilocal reviews and location), as well as a tuneup since it was running rough. They called and said they could fix the engine light issue relatively easily.
Sure enough they did, only cost $ 110 + labor! Car didn’t even need a tuneup, just needed a faulty sensor replacement.

These guys are wonderful! Very honest and they do a great job. The two guys that were working while I was there was so nice and helpful. They seem very legit and aren’t going to rip you off. They seem to really care about the customer and the work they do. Thank you! I will be returning here from now on.

Excellent work at a fair price! Sounds impossible from a mechanic– right? This shop is great. Koko returned my urgent voice message after hours when I had broken down. He let me have my car towed to the shop and left overnight– then was in touch the next morning with a diagnosis. He knew everything about the previous work I had done on the car without my saying a word. He gave me all of my options for required and recommended repairs– and the prices, before doing them. He also performed additional safety checks after the repairs and had everything fixed the same afternoon– allowing me to pick up the car right as the shop was closing. I would recommend this shop to everyone, and will go here for all my future automotive needs.

I forgot to review this place and I’ve been there twice! Koko is great. A Honda dealership wanted to charge me around $ 90 to do an engine coolant flush. I called Koko (or is it Coco?) and he just said $ 40. I brought the car in and the work was done in a few hours. The place is busy & I can see why they’re popular. I’ll be returning to Koko the next time I need something done on my Honda Civic.

Been coming here for ~4 years for inspections, oil changes, tire changes, wheel rotation, etc. I call ahead the day before to ask if the following day is a good time. They never fail.
Steady, reliable, evenly priced work. I am grateful to have found them.
I try to work remotely using a nearby café with internet. They call when done; seamless experience.
Only knock: parking lot is tiny. Be patient pulling in/​out on Boston Ave. Drive safe!

I cannot believe I had not written a review about this place until now. I’ve been going there for 4 years or so and Koko never disappoints! First things first, he’s the realest. Not Iggy ! Koko is the realest. I go to him for all the issues in my 2003 honda — he makes that thing run well every year. Seriously, it just passed another inspection and I say, you are on, time and age! Fair pricing and assessment plus a smile. Go there!

I haven’t seen a better place for mechanic-​ism in the greater Boston area. The staff is so incredibly knowledgeable and friendly — they know what they’re doing! I will definitely be bringing my business here and passing on the word. It’s great to see an really honest place that actually takes care of their customers with efficiency and respect.

Simple car inspection took less than 10 minutes — service friendly, $ 40 for the inspection. I will be back!

I’ve been to Foreign & Domestic Auto Service a few times now on the recommendation of Pasquale Auto Body (a great body shop). The first time I took my car here I had them service my air conditioning after I did repairs on my A/​C system. Because of the way my car’s A/​C lines are setup, it didn’t want to take first, but they stuck with it and and I had A/​C again, which was much appreciated in the summer we had. They only charged me for the A/​C charge and not the time it took to get the system full.
I’ve taken my car there to get an oil change, and most recently I took my car to get a fuel filter changed. They did the job quickly and without drama, and they didn’t overcharge me to do the job. After my experience with Chris’ Auto in Somerville, I was about to swear off local shops altogether and start taking my car to speciality shops (which are further away and tend to be more expensive), but Foreign and Domestic showed me that there are competent shops around here that know what they’re doing and won’t overcharge you for their work.
They get a lot of work so be proactive about scheduling a time to bring your car in, but these guys are great. Whenever you find an ethical mechanic with integrity you want to stick with them, and that’s what these guys are.

I went to Koko’s repair shop after reading great reviews on Unilocal.I’m so glad I did!
I knew my older Toyota would need some significant work, and wanted to get an honest opinion on what was needed to keep it running (and whether it was worth the investment to do so!) Unfortunately, my car needs over $ 1000 — too much for how old it is. Koko was speedy, professional, and didn’t try to talk me into the repairs. He was kind in explaining what needed repaired and why, how much each repair would cost, and let me make my own decision.
Five big stars for great, fast, and professional service — I did not have any repairs done here, but based on my experience would highly recommend.

I have never written a Unilocal review before (I’m not much of an Internet-​reviewer in general), but I absolutely had to review Koko’s auto shop. He took my car (with only an hour notice!) on Martin Luther King Day while I was in the middle of a week-​long stay in the Boston area and was entirely dependent upon my car to get to work a 20 – 40 minute ride away in the city. When it broke down that morning, I panicked, especially because I have had very bad experiences with AAA-​approved repair shops royally destroying my car. Thanks to Unilocal,I found Koko’s (5 star-​rated!) auto shop was about four miles away from where I was staying, and I had AAA tow me there instead of to their own repair shop. Within an hour and a half of dropping my car off, I received a call from him telling me it was fixed and ready to pick up. Best part? He didn’t charge me. What a nice man! I would definitely come here again.

Had my oil changed there today. Exactly what you want when getting it done: fast, reasonably priced, and well staffed. I was in and out.

First time going to a mechanic, and it couldn’t have gone smoother. Once my car was put on the lift, the problem (rusted hose clamp) was fixed in under a minute. I was in and out of Foreign & Domestic in about five minutes.

Since there were so many good reviews on this place I brought my car in over a year ago to have the check engine light looked at. Koko was nice. They told me my filler neck needed to be replaced, and indeed it was rusty as heck. They also said the sensor on the filler neck needed replacement as well, so I agreed to that to. They turn the light off and tell me its all fixed. I drove around a bit and it comes back on so I bring it back in. They replaced all the hoses and turned it off again. I drive it around again and its comes back. They had no idea at this point and seemed to not want to deal with me anymore. So $ 600 later I still had a check engine light and couldn’t afford any more.
A couple weeks ago (a year later) I took it to another mechanic for my new rejection sticker and he offered to looked at it for me no charge. Turns out all the hoses were put on incorrectly and the sensor that was «replaced» was not new but covered in paint of some sort and filled with rust. This other mechanic corrected everything for no labor charge and now my check engine light is off.

If you want EXCELLENT customer service, you have to go to this place. They were very nice, very reasonable, and honest. My husband and I now understand why this place has that many great reviews! We went there because of the reviews, but we are coming back because of the service.

I had a great experience here back in December. My car unexpectedly had some trouble just a few days before beginning a new job and i needed help FAST! Koko and his staff were wonderful… communicated everything clearly and operated within my budget. They even took a look at it a few weeks later when the ‘check engine’ light appeared. i will definitely recommend this shop to anyone in need. thank you!

This is the only place I bring my car to get serviced. Koko is so kind and treats you with respect and does a great job fixing your car.

Don’t bother going anywhere else!

I’ve been searching for quite some time for a reliable mechanic and after doing a couple quick Unilocal searches, found this gem. I brought my ’99 Corolla in for an inspection sticker only to have it fail due to a problem with my muffler. They fixed the muffler problem and only charged me for the inspection.
The very next day I was driving north on 93 and just about at the 95N exit when my muffler fell off the car. It was about 5:30PM and I knew the shop was closed but I figured I’d just have the car towed there and I’d leave a message for Koko since they were closed for the day. Koko ended up meeting us at the shop and fixing the muffler personally at no charge to me.
I could not be happier with the service that they provided. They are honest and no looking to nickel and dime you to death or make-​up problem with your car. There is no reason to go anywhere else.

Koko has been my only mechanic since moving back to the area six years ago. He earned an extra special place in my heart when after three years of me usually coming in with my bf at the time in tow, I showed up for my scheduled oil change alone.
Koko: «Where is Mr. Green Audi?»
Me: «Um… he left.»
Koko: «Left you? Or left area?»
Me: «Eh, sort of both.»
Koko: «What an ass.»
If that wasn’t enough to earn my complete loyalty I would have been won over the time that I showed up at the shop with a long flap of plastic that had somehow fallen out of my wheel well (Don’t ask, I have no idea what it was, it looked fairly important though.) and Koko fixed on the spot. For free. Or the time when my tire literally exploded, and I called the shop in tears and Koko not only arranged my tow, but also remembered that my tires where still under warranty, by a whopping six days or so.
I hate to get all stereotypical, but it is true that, as a woman, it can be hard to find a mechanic who doesn’t make you feel as if you are being taken advantage of, or creep you out in some other way. Or talk down to you — I might not know as much about my car as I should, but I am not a complete moron, or a child. Koko is that mechanic — straightforward, reliable and honest.
This Ms. Silver Saturn would never dream of going anywhere else.

I’ve been taking my car here for the past four years, and even used it as my primary mechanic when I moved a few hours away for nine months.
I’ve used Foreign & Domestic for both of my cars, ‘90s models of a Pontiac GrandAm and an Oldsmobile 88, on simple items like oil changes and tire rotations to a faulty A/​C compressor and, today, needing them to replace the motor on my driver’s side window. They have always been communicative on time and price, and deliver on solid work.
My review is so positive you might be skeptical, but being a female I’ve been screwed on car maintenance issues and had sleezeball mechanics in the past. Foreign & Domestic definitely comes with my highest of recommendations.
