Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory

For the second time we had to use Myers-​Buhrig services. The first time we needed them was for my stepfather as you can read in my first review. Then, my sister unexpectedly passed away. My sister wanted to be cremated so that was the option we went with.
As in my previous review, everything was handled with tact, respect and dignity. And again, Bob was not sickeningly sweet or overly deferential to the family members. He could judge very well what could and what couldn’t be handled by various people as he explained everything. To put it bluntly she was laid out beautifully.
In a weird way I felt better knowing that they put a special bracelet on her so that her identity will remain available all through the cremation process. Apparently not all crematories do this but since they own the crematory they control how everything is handled and you’re not shipped out to somewhere else. There’s always this underlying wonder if the ashes we get are actually the ashes of the loved one and that they didn’t get mixed up somehow.
It was interesting to see the different options dependent on financial availability. With my stepfather, we were financially able to have him taken care of fairly easily. With my sister, money was a LOT tighter.
This may be more information than needed, but during such a difficult time it’s worth noting that you can’t get around this being very stressful for any family. Even in tense family situations he was able to be an excellent go between and EVERYONE felt better about arrangements and how they were handled.
Let me say that if you need to use this service, do NOT freak out at what you are going through and how it will be handled. Wait until your first appointment with him. You can then relax a little bit when you know exactly what you are dealing with. He will take you through everything step by step. The financial advice are golden nuggets of information. There is a lot going through your mind when everything starts to happen. Especially if you don’t have a lot of money. Just breathe.
Financially everything was doable. There were various options available and he would explain and reexplain until we understood everything. He knows how difficult everything is.
One last thing, they’re fairly technically savvy so if you want to Skype a service or email photos, they can handle that kind of stuff.
I intend to go to Myers-​Buhrig again. I can make that decision easily and with confidence. Hopefully I won’t need to for a long while.
