This store is OVERWHELMINGLY massive; no one needs that much choice. To top it off, they’ve just ousted Books A Million from their everlasting location in order to obtain even MORE space.

Regardless the fact that there prices is the best ever! You will always got discounts and amazing customer service!

Aside from great selection and good prices (with specials and the occasional coupon), the staff here is knowledgable and friendly. And many go above and beyond in concerning themselves with your selection. I was helped by Chris today: not only was his guidance appreciated, but he went above and beyond and I am very grateful for his assistance.
He is a keeper!

On the surface it may appear as if Total Wine is an oenophile’s candy store. But looking beneath the surface, the stark realities of the wine retail business lay themselves bare.
About 90% of the wine displayed in the store are «winery direct» bottles. When you try to search for these labels online you find that most of them are only carried by total wine. It appears that what total wine does is to travel the world to find second and third tier producers, whose middling wine they can buy cheap, and Mark up to earn excessive profits, without much competition from other retailers. Most of these wines have never been reviewed by a reputable publication (wine industry rags don’t count).
I’ve never had a «winery direct» wine from total wine that was a good value. Their marketing, and the in-​store hype, leads you to believe these are great wines… But in reality most of them are not.
The 10% of their selection that are mainstream wines, for the most part are not competitively priced. This is true more for the whites, than the red’s.
The next time you’re there, try googling some of their wines from your phone and you’ll see what I mean.
In the last couple years they’ve gone overboard with the «winery direct» thing, so my wine purchase dollars are going elsewhere.
There are much better places to buy wine in the DC area. Calvert Woodley and Pauls in the District are two examples of stores that sell real wine at great prices, have a phenomenal selection and knowledgeable staffs.

I REALLY like this store. I tend to get bored with my usual red wines. So, I rely on their expertise, ie wine lists to introduce me to new wines. Recently, I tried some of the top selections from their Best of 2015 wine list. I chose several, but my fav is the «ITER CABERNET NAPA». It has a light body almost like a Pinot with excellent strawberry and chocolate undertones. Total Wine can be relied for finding great wines at decent prices.

The best thing is they have staff who are committed to making you feel not overwhelmed. And those staff members are WONDERFUL!

You know the drill by now of Total Wine, but this store has a pretty exceptional beer selection among Total Wines. Enormous amount of bottles, tons of singles, lots of bizarre country ticks, even some special release stuff was here like Stone Enjoy By IPA and Stone Espresso RIS. Also found at least two cases of Williamsburg Aleworks Café Royale. Very impressed. Staff was very friendly. Let me leave with about 10 six pack holders and three wine cases that I needed for moving.

This Total Wine has a great selection, including some Virginia locals (Blue Mountain Brewery, Devil’s Backbone, Bold Rock, etc.). They also have a good selection of Dogfish Head beers that can be hard to find elsewhere. The wine selection is great, as well. An ABC store is conveniently located in the shopping area across the street so you can stock up!

This place is equivalent to a BevMo with their amazing selection and incredible prices but this place is definitely much larger, similar to a Costco but just for alcohol!
They staff here are super helpful and knowledgeable regarding their products, and are let you sample some of the wine you are purchasing to make sure that you like it. For gifting and special occasions they are more than happy to work with your budget and help you select the perfect wine for your occasion and menu pairings.
The parking lot is large and the store is always clean and busy, and worth the drive from Maryland to get the perfect liquor for your event.

I stop in here more for beer than wine. They have a good selection of craft and imported beers in both the small and large bottles. They also have beer on tap for growler fills. They have decent selection of beer for fills. Their current selection can be viewed on line. My only complaint is that they don’t offer tastes of their selections before making a purchase. Local brew pubs and Whole Foods do offer samples.

What I think: I think this place is great, had a wide variety and selections, the only issue was that it didn’t have liquor at this location but i guess that is b/​c it was in VA. Definitely will go to Total Wine again but maybe the one’s in MD instead…

We bought all of the beer and wine for our wedding reception at this Total Wine location. The staff were great to work with.
They provided several options for our wine based on our menu selection, and provided tastings to help us decide what we liked best. They helped us find wines and champagne that wouldn’t break the bank, and we got lots of compliments from our wedding guests.
We had a couple of cases leftover that they took back no questions asked. I appreciated this so much given all the expenses that go into a wedding.
In hindsight, we selected too many beer options and over bought on beer (which could not be returned) but I had this fear of running out knowing our friends!
Since our wedding, I’ve made this my go to wine store. The staff is much friendlier and less judgmental than their colleagues in other store locations. If I ask them for a great Cab under $ 10, they don’t roll their eyes and tell you to go buy grocery store wine. Instead, they find you a great everyday wine and even offer menu suggestions.
Love this place.

I give this place great credit, the guy (wish I wouldhave grabbedhis name) at the store was extremely helpful, and you can tell he was not bothered to help, he actually enjoyed it, and it showed, I guess it helps that he was actually very knowledgeable, so it made his job so much easier, he even recommended some good beer that I will be going back for.

What is this huge place?! Why isn’t there one in NYC? Total Wine is the place to go if you are a wine enthusiast or if you have barely any idea about the grownup grape juice world.
They offer an extensive variety of wine– region, grape and of course, price. We were able to find some from Lodi, CA that were not available in NY. They definitely got the both coasts covered and beyond. If you are not sure what to get, there are some recommendation tabs with ratings to help you chose if you are not feeling too adventurous.
Total Wine also offer a good selection of craft beers. Well organized by alphabetic order. Can’t commit to a six pack of never-​tasted-​before beer? That’s fine too, just get one or two. You can also mix your own six pack.
FYI, if you see a wine available on their website, it does not mean that they carry them in all their stores. You can order for pickup.

This place is awesome for their amazing selection of beer and wine at incredible prices.
If you haven’t been here before, think of a Walmart stocked full of beer, wine, mixers and a few snacky foods to accompany your libations.
The staff is always very nice, though sometimes not as knowledgeable as one would hope.
One of my offerings at total wine is their build your own six packs — Grab an empty six pack and pick six beers from their extensive beer collection to fill the pack. Not only does this allow you to get something for everyone, but it also makes it possible to sample new beers without committing to a whole pack.
Total wine is easy to access and there’s always tons of parking.

My rating is based on the craft beer selection only as I didn’t go anywhere else in the store and their customer service.
They have aisle’s of beers! Good ones too not that macro brew crap. I found lots of little goodies and hard to find beers at Total Wine. I was super impressed at the selection and at the organization of the beers. A lot of times stores are unorganized and dishelved employees try to assist to no avail but not here. the employees know where everyting is and if they dont then they look it up in 2 seconds and tell you where or when it will be coming in!
I loved this store and the service, I’ll be back!

Tons of beer, local, seasonal, unique, imported, and regional. Tons of wine of the same nature, plus beer and wine accessories. Lots of recommendations, staff favorites, and descriptors for those of us whose palettes are lacking, and a ‘pick-​your-​own-​six-​pack’ section (single bottles) that delights those who are variety inclined. Not only can you avoid some MD taxes by driving from MD to a VA Total Wine, but because of distribution minutiae, a VA Total Wine has a much better selection that MD Total Wine anyways.
Honestly, it can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you like, and you can get lost amidst brewery and winery blurbs about the uniqueness of their liquids. But you can also use Total Wine to systematically figure out what you like by buying every type of mild buzz –bringer out there (within reason) and tasting them side by side at home. No excuses.
I am California-​grown, and I was happy to see many West Coast breweries widely represented among the East Coast and Mid West classics that I can get at any beer and wine on the corner.
Bonus: they keep their empty boxes stacked floor to ceiling behind the checkout lines so you can buy two ‘cases’ worth of beer and wine and carry them to your car easily. This is a nice touch. The only improvement would be to sell liquor as well so you could make a one-​stop shop for all your party beverage needs.
Also, if the staff reads this, it would be nice to have a random beer sampler six-​pack available for grab-​n-​go so I don’t have to read 8 shelves worth of beer labels before choosing on a uneducated whim anyways. AND it would be a great way to get rid of single beers that are taking up shelf space!

OK, Total Wine is the size of a flipping super market or Costco… and it’s ALL FILLED WITH BOOZE.
Not only are there a billion different selections… BUT, they also do TASTINGS. WHAT THE WHAAAAAAA?
Every random type and brand and label of wine… and more craft beers than you can shake a hipster at… and cheap wine glasses and accutrements… gaaaaaaaah…it’s basically how I picture Heaven to be. Only, you know, everything would be free. Heh.
Only downside is that they don’t have spirits (the boozy kind, not the metaphysical kind)…
