I just want to say thank you to Kyla Carter and Jesse Ebron III. I had bought a pair of shoes about two and half months ago and destroyed them to the point that both of these employee thought the shoes were 3+ years. When I had originally bought the shoes the employee told me that they would last far longer the then the clarks I destroyed in 3 months. I was up front and told this employee I am very hard on shoes and can ruin them quick. Originally I had no intentions of buying new shoes but he was good at selling to the point I bought them. It frustrated me to the point I was done with Johnston $ Murphy until I had worked with Kyla and Jesse. They both took the time to help me and figure out a great solution. I ended up walking out with two wing tip shoes and I had no intentions of wing tips. They should me why I would like them more and got me to try them on. This is some of the greatest customer service I have ever had and I truly appreciated them. I will continue to buy the brand due to Kyla and Jesse. Thank you, Perry Wyatt III

Are these great shoes, absolutely. Well constructed, welted shoes with genuine leather, Johnston and Murphy makes a quality product. This review, however, is for this store. We walked into this store, exhausted from Christmas shopping and not incredibly fussy. Our only goal was to get our shopping done and get the heck home. Does that mean the sales clerk should take advantage of us? If yes, then we will never be returning to this location. The sales clerk had the skills of a sleazy used car salesman. Does it give him numbers, sure, but no return customers. After picking out the pair we wanted, the sales clerk told us they were out of that size. Then the kid tried to charge us $ 20 for having it delivered. Note that other Johnston and Murphy stores DONOT charge to have another size delivered. We declined to pay and were sold the display pair. At checkout I noticed he threw extra shoelaces into the shoe box. My husband thought it was a generous gift. I however thought something was wrong when he was swiping my card. Lo and behold when I looked at the receipt, I saw a charge for $ 2.50. Am I going to go all hulk over a couple of bucks? No, and especially not when the mall has already drained every ounce of energy from me, but as I said really sleazy. Customer service makes or breaks an experience for me. $ 2.50 may be a drop in the bucket for us but the principle of how wrong the deed was will be everlasting in our memories.

LOVE Johnston and Murphy! Like the other reviewer, I left Macy’s dismayed at the search for good shoes. I saw J&M shoes there, but service had been absolutely horrible. Spotted the J&M store itself just outside Macy’s and thought it was worth a shot. The salesman was incredibly helpful, helped me pick out a couple great pairs, easily sold me on the shoe trees and polish and brush, and made me a now devout J&M wearer for life. I spent more than I wanted to, but feel absolutely confident in the value and service that I received. Have since ordered another J&M pair online, and now doubt I’ll get any dress shoes besides J&M. Note that I’ve been to other stores without this level of service, but the quality of shoes has made me proud to get dressed in the morning and has been noticed and complimented.

After feeling like I had just been given an undeserved extra finger in the rear end without lube by the doctor at Macy’s, I went to Johnston and Murphy to try on the tuxedo shoes that they had there for just a few dollars more. The sad thing is that after the sales associate brought them out and I put them on, I wondered why I wanted to buy the cheap CK shoes at Macy’s to begin with. I was probably the easiest customer the guy had all day — of course it helps when you know what you want. In, tried on, and out in less than 10 minutes. It helped me make up for lost time in Macy’s and get my new years party on the road.
