History

Established in 1999.

Bulwark Exterminating is a Family Owned Pest Control Company that has been operating in the Mathews area since 2000. A trio of brothers and their father set out to meet the pest control needs and concerns of local residential home owners after having worked for another national exterminator. These founders of Bulwark Exterminating believed that they could provide better service with better results. They have seen this dream become a reality, having earned Super Service Awards, Google’s Favorite Place Award and an A+ Rating by the BBB.

I’ve been with Bulwark Exterminating for 13 years now and because of the lessons I have learned working at Bulwark, I have become a better father, husband and person. I believe that taking this job was the second greatest decisions of my life, next to deciding to marry the love of my life. I would not be where I am today professionally nor personally without Bulwark being in my life. I will never leave the company because of how my family and I are taken care of by the Bulwark Pest Control family. Bulwark has done so much for my family, that its second nature to pass on such great care to our customers. Bulwark has given me a job that I do not consider a job, I am happy at work therefore able to provide great customer service, which makes me happier when I get home at the end of the day. I have a higher quality of life because Bulwark treats me like family, I believe that Bulwark treats everyone like family. We chose to work with Bulwark based on the reviews but unfortunately we have not had a good experience. Our initial issue was with customer service (or lack thereof) and today (our first interaction with them since the last bad experience) was a no show/​no call. Awesome! I won’t bore you with all of the details but suffice it to say that we wish we had never picked up the phone to call Bulwark — waste of time… literally.

We have been a customer of Bulwark since June and the spider problem has not been resolved. They have done initial treatment inside and out and have done the application second time in August. We still however see the same amount of spider webs in our backyard, deck etc as before…
Also the first person who did the initial application skipped a lot of areas and did not even leave the paperwork

We have used Bullwark for a few years now, and they are definitely a league above the rest! Last visit JESSE WOLLEN was out and he was so polite and helpful! The Bullwark Tech’s are always SO great, they really know the answers to your pest-​control questions! Is speaks to the training Bullwark applies with it’s folks. Thanks for 3+ years of outstanding service!

Shortly before giving birth last July I noticed a lot (ok, more like a few) of roaches suddenly appearing around the house, including in the baby’s room! Clearly something had to be done and fast, as I was going to be induced in like 4 days.
I called and spoke to someone about my problems and we discussed pricing and set up a time for someone to come to my house the following day!
Since that time they have been coming to do regular preventative outside maintenance. Anytime I have had an issue they have been quick to respond and send someone to the house.
Most recently We returned from vacation to find the some bees/​wasps or whatever kind of flying, stinging monster it was, had decided to make our kitchen home. David W came to the house and helped figure out what the source of the problem was (hint: make sure your fireplace flue is closed!) and did a quick assessment of the outside of the house to make sure there were no other points of entry before leaving.
All of the techs that have come to our house have been knowledgable, respectful and to seem to genuinely care about making sure our house is pest free.
I’m so happy to know that they will be there should any of the little creatures that love outside decide to try and make their way inside again!

I was chatting with a neighbor recently who admitted that his home was recently treated for termites… yikes!!!
So, I got nervous & decided that I better get my home checked again since it had been over 10 yrs since my last termite inspection. Thankfully, they didn’t find the nasty buggers… And I decided to go with quarterly inspections with the in-​ground traps.
Because the service has been good thus far, I recently decided to also sign up for quarterly exterior sprays so hopefully I can get rid of the Black Widow Spiders that have set up residence in my backyard as well. (Scared one of them will bite my 5 lb Chihuahua which would not be good!!)
The techs have been very friendly & professional and show up on time. Prices seem fairly average for the area.

Fairly new customer but no complaints here. They come every two months to spray the yard and I can call them any time to have them come out for free if I see any pests inside. They also provided (at an extra charge) an entire home and yard flea bombing for us when we first moved in.
We recently had Tech Tierra Watson and she did a great job.

We are new Bulwark customers and so far the initial service has done a good job. We had an ant problem in the kitchen that has been eliminated and we are about 1 month out from the initial treatment. I have noticed a huge drop in the number of household pests we see. We used to see them every day, now I’ve seen maybe one ant and one spider in a month.
The initial service was done by Ben Sykora who did a great job. No complaints whatsoever about the service.
The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel the price I was originally quoted was changed. I feel sure that the person on the phone quoted me $ 74 for the initial treatment, but I was charged $ 89 when the technician was finished. It is quite possible that I misheard, but I don’t think this is the case. However, being fair I did not give them a chance to fix the issue as it’s only $ 15 and I did not feel like dealing with it. Regardless the service feels worth the price. I would recommend Bulwark to a friend.

Just started this service, and I’m very glad I did! I should have started one years ago. We live behind a nature preserve and naturally there are creatures living back there that come up for some free food (and we don’t want that). Ben Sykora came by and explained the types of products, where they should go and what results I should expect. The cost is so affordable, it’s for a reasonable length, even set-​up was easy. I’m a pretty easy going person, so it’s not hard to please me (keep that in mind) but I don’t right many good reviews, unless I’m really happy about the service.

It’s not particularly difficult to find someone who wants to sell you something. Unfortunately, the Bulwark web site isn’t much different in that regard — they advertise that they would like to provide a free inspection, and after submitting your request, they let you know that you will be contacted within a few minutes after submitting said request during business hours (which are 7am to 8pm — impressive!).
So I submitted my request, at a bit before 7am, but wasn’t contacted for close to four hours. Not really an issue — but if you advertise that sort of turnaround, you need to back it up.
When they did call back, they started through the litany of questions about bugs and why they are in the yard, which is fine, but when I tried to ask about just getting the inspection as advertised, it became more of a process of just giving me service instead, showing that the interest is instead about selling. Not a problem, I understand that it’s not all about handing out free inspections, but again, if you advertise it, you really should provide it.
As to service? Didn’t try them, because when the up front information is this far off the mark, the follow-​through isn’t generally that much better.

I have been using Bulwark for a few months now and they have consistently provided quality service from right out of the gate. Our technician Ron never fails to provide service with a smile and Bulwark is great about coming out to do follow up trips with no questions asked… all I have to do is give them a call anytime to let them know if I see even one little insect loitering on the inside of my premises and usually the next day they come right out and take care of business, no hassle, no charge, in and out to spray the interior and the problem is solved.
So often places get irritated if you dare call them in-​between normal service times, but not Bulwark as they don’t ask questions or make excuses, they just get the job done. Pest control is one of those «set it and forget it» type of services that I just want done without any headaches, and Bulwark does that and then some, as I have never seen Ron or any of the techs grumble or complain, as they are very personable and have a service-​oriented attitude which is a HUGE plus.
Another huge plus is the fact that they don’t make you wait around for hours at a time as they will call me 30min beforehand so I can head home from work and meet them at the front door if they are doing an interior follow up for me. No issues, no headaches, no complaints… can’t ask for more than that!

Have had the Bulwarks service for 6 years and it has been nothing but wonderful. We have not seen any bugs in our house and I was worried when we moved in since all our neighbors were having trouble.
The last service call we had was performed by Benjamin Sykora and he was pleasant, thorough, and respectful.

They were very responsive to my concerns, and went above and beyond in helping to rid my pest problem. Communication is key, and after expressing my frustrations and expectations, Bulwark responded by sending over their best, most thorough, and respectful technicians to my property.
I have since moved out of state, but if I was still there, I would most definitely continue to pay for their regular pest control service. I highly recommend this company.

Bought a deal on Angie’s List for a whole house treatment as we had been seeing more and more spiders moving in. They were out two days later and did a thorough job spraying both inside and out. I was given the option of using an Eco-​Friendly product (which I chose) and the technician explained that all of their products were non-​toxic, safe for children and pets, etc. We have also had a sporadic problem with mice, so they put down traps and bait for the mice as well at no additional charge.
Very pleased with the service!
