Holiday Inn Chicago Matteson Conf Ctr

Pros: I heard a lot of bad things about this hotel. So I was pleasantly surprised when my husband and I stayed there the night of 1÷9÷16. Our room was spacious and clean. Check-​in went smoothly. This is a nice hotel if you need a place to stay in the south burbs at a reasonable rate.
Cons: My husband’s fraternity (Sigmas) had an event there that evening. The sign posted outside of the conference room door was tackily hand written in magic marker and they spelled Sigma wrong. We checked in at 3pm and there was no place to get a snack as the snack shop was closed. Why would the snack shop be closed at 3pm on a Saturday?

Don’t be put off by the odd location… this is actually a nice hotel. The hotel is situated in what seems to be an office building parking lot, a bit removed from everything else around it. The hotel doubles as a conference center, so it has that enormous conference hotel feel to it. I was upgraded to a suite which was nice, although there was a lot of unused space in the room. The room was clean and had everything I needed, but they should consider replacing the ancient heating/​cooling units.
The hotel was relatively empty and had a desolate feel to it. Even the bar in the lobby was empty. But for a business stay I wasn’t looking for anything rowdy anyways. One thing that did bother me during my stay was the unpredictability of the convenience store in the lobby. It’s independently owned and impossible to predict whether or not it will be open. So don’t count on it.
I would probably stay here again if in the area, just because it was clean and there’s plenty of places to eat nearby.

Bar Louie’s inside the hotel was very spacious… plenty of seating around the bar and lots of tv’s, they were giving free appetizers to the Veterans, in honor of Veteran’s Day… kudos for acknowledging their service. Just a very nice & enjoyable stay!

So it would seem someone put quite a lot of money renovating this older hotel. However, vacuuming the contemporary carpets in the hallway would go along way as well as removing the light bulbs in the room that make everything look blue. Cleanliness as well as warm inviting lighting are important. Gaps in the door allowed us to hear everything in the hallway all night long. Again. Their attempts to update are commendable, but when the carpets are dirty and debris everywhere it makes you question the cleanliness of everything else. Like they say you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.

The folks at the desk are very nice. This is my second stay in three weeks with two more weeks to go. My days are busy but I can come back to the room and REST! Only bad thing is I reserved a king and got a two queen bed room. Am very impressed with the new Holiday Inn. Definitely recommend you stay here.

My stay at this hotel was fine… although, it is important to note that I was only there for one night. The room was very clean and contemporary, check-​in was smooth, the elevator was a little sketchy as someone else mentioned, but aside from that, it was ok. Not a luxury, five star hotel, but decent for the price.
My only issue was that they have this «hospitality promise» sign in the rooms which indicate if you need anything, let them know and they will bring whatever you need. Well, turns out that I forgot my toothbrush, so based on the sign-​I thought they’d bring one right up. Nope. Claimed they were too busy and I needed to come to the front desk to pick it up myself. Well, if you make the effort to leave a hospitality promise in each room — you should also make the commitment to honoring it. I was already dressed for bed, so it was a huge inconvenience to walk down the hall, wait for the elevator, wait in line since other customers were there, then return to my room. I will say, that at least they did offer a free toothbrush vs. the hotels that offer nothing except a small store that will cost you an arm and a leg for a cheap toothbrush.
Major Pro: updated, clean rooms.
Major Con: can’t trust the hospitality promise.

Dive motel anymore. Bar Louie is horrendous. Complained to the bartender about the insane decibel level that was blaring ((well shouting to her)) and she apologized said this is what they do everynight…
Me and my non ghetto yet already deaf self couldn’t run for the door fast enough not to mention way overpriced drinks… WAY OVERPRICED DRINKS!!! Y’ALL AREN’T IN THE LOOP PEOPLE DON’T PAY THOSE PRICES

Here with my family. Layout is super sketchy. Elevator is creepy and just after a couple hours here we decided we wouldn’t be back.

An «ok» hotel. The rooms are decent and there is a lot of shopping and food around the hotel, which is very convenient.

The front desk staff did not recognize me as one of their tier status members. The internet was horrible, could not stay connected to anything for any length of time and was told «that was a problem throughout the hotel». How does a convention center have bad internet?
No breakfast included.
Bottom line… I may or may not stay there again.

looks refinished, so at first glance it’s nice. Staff was polite and friendly. Room looked refinished as well, but this was the dealbreaker — there were light curtains over the windows, but the blackout shades were only 2ft long on each end! I was on the higher floor, but you could easily see the silhouettes of people on the lower floors because of the lack of privacy. Crazy. Bed was ok, not great in terms of comfort, but I’m not too picky either. Free wifi was a plus.

Stayed here for 5 nights for a pleasure trip to go steppin. … clean, decent rooms, affordable price, friendly staff. Didn’t care for the food at the restaurant louie’s bar and Grill… fairly easy access to the highways, especially 57. Plenty of fast food and basic restaurants in the area, and a Starbucks across the road. I found the front desk staff were super helpful and pleasant. Didn’t care for the manager Ysenia (sp?) Won’t be back here because of her. No customer service skills. It’s back to the Marriott for me from now on. So long holiday inn. … Too bad… This place could use the business from the looks of it.

Ghetto, unprofessional staff…

This place has had a successful facelift. We stayed here for a 30 year college reunion; our last stay was for the 20 year. Things were much better this time around. The room was updated nicely. My only complaints were no mini fridge/​bar and no toilet paper holders. One had to set the TP on a little shelf under the sink because the holders were nonfunctional.
Staff was excellent — helpful, friendly, professional. Brandon was first-​class!
Bar Louie is a big improvement over the Razzmatazz lounge from the past — at least as far as appearances go. Free coffee in the morning, in to go cups, was very welcome. Bar Louie had a disturbingly long list of post 9pm rules, which made me wonder about the potential for trouble.
Pool looked good — big and clean.
Banquet buffet food was surprisingly good.
This Holiday Inn is fine and servicable, but no more than that. Keep your expectations in check and you’ll be fine.

The Holiday Inn Hotel Matteson & Conference Center is open and back in business. I visited the property on June 30, 2012 after being at conferences on two occasions while the public area of the hotel was under substantial reconstruction. The lobby is completed and updated; it looks great! The restaurant is called Bar Louie and it incorporates several of the restaurants and clubs into one totality. The very polite and helpful registration clerk said that work continues on this very large property (my guess the commercial part of the structure) but that the majority of the property is ready for your bookings. As before, this might be a good place for weddings, banquets, holiday parties and other celebratory occasions. A very good turn of events for the community.

Editing my previous posting to confirm that this place is NOT a Holiday Inn anymore as of late 2010. The sign has been covered over. I believe for now they are calling in MATTESON HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTER, at least that’s what I found online.
EDIT TO ADD: Back to being H.I. affiliated as of mid 2012. I’m sure they are super wonderful now but I think I will leave the low rating as regards why they didn’t get their re-​do done fast enough so they didn’t have to drop H.I., if that’s what happened.
If H.I. reads this: I am glad you folks boot operations that are not up to your standards!

I flew into Illinois for a friends wedding and ended up staying at this hotel (no thanks to Priceline).
This hotel is worse than any Motel 6 I’ve ever stayed at growing up. Supposedly the hotel rated 3 stars and I ended up paying $ 75 a night (including taxes) but not worth that — I could’ve stayed at a MOTEL and it would have been cleaner and safer. :(
After I checked in, I went straight to my room only to find it stinking of smoke and vomit. :(When I called the front desk, I was told I needed to stay so that housekeeping can verify the smell.
10 minutes later the housekeeping showed up with «Spring Green» cleaning spray and sprayed the carpet, turned on the ac and sprayed the vents to mask the smell. I insisted that my room be changed because of the smell to a non-​smoking room.
After waiting in the lobby with my luggage for another 10 min, the housekeeping informed me that a non-​smoking room was not available but that they could put me in an alternate room but that they go in first. I’m sure it was so they can go in and spray the cleaner.
Sure enough, when I walked in, the room smelled of «spring green». Anyhow, the carpets were stained so badly that I didn’t feel comfortable walking around barefoot in the room. :(Also, the tiles in the bathroom had cracks and were falling out and some parts of the wallpaper were torn. This was not a 3 star hotel by any means. :(
Also, there’s a side entrance if you do not want to walk all the way to the main lobby to enter — there’s no security on this door. No lock though it says you need your room key to enter, you didn’t even have to turn a knob, just push and the door is open. Not safe/​secure at all.

It was a decent hotel but could use some serious updating. I don’t know anything about the area to know how safe or unsafe it is according to David F’s review but it did seem safe. The room itself was a non-​smoking room however it smelled like someone was smoking in it just before I got there. There were roughly 6 different sets of plugs in the room and I found 2 of the sets that didn’t work at all, which always disappoints me.
The location of the hotel was great for what we needed. It is right off the express way so it was easy to find and easy to get back on the road in the morning. All the staff I dealt with were very friendly and helpful with local area advice on where to go and where to eat which is always helpful.
Overall it was a hotel that got the job done, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again if I was to be in the area again in the future.

I stay at this hotel every week. Matteson and Olympia Fields isn’t the safest place to be late at night. This hotel is a lifesaver! They offer a very nice setting, comfortable rooms that are clean and modern… except for the TVs… and most important, it is safe. You never worry about your safety!
There are other hotels in the area, but this is by far the best place to stay!
Update:
Time marches on and The Matteson Holiday Inn is not longer a Holiday Inn. The entire town of Matteson has slowly been dying. Week after week, one business after another has gone the way of the dodo bird. The town is starting to look like a movie set for a town that was hit with some neutron bomb.
This hotel lost its name and is now just a independent hotel. The hotel was slowly getting worn out. The TVs were dated, the furniture was old, and the quality of employees went down.
There are so many better places to stay in the area. Tinley Park is just to the west and has a bunch of name brand hotels near good shopping. Matteson is a lost cause!
