History

Established in 2013.

Innovative, Collaborative, Educational (I.C.E.) Tutoring was established to assist individuals in becoming successful, independent learners and thinkers. Time is spent with each learner to determine strengths and to use those strengths to work on challenges.

It is important that each learner feels confident. Confidence is built through a supportive, caring rapport between student and tutor. When learners are confident, they will take risks knowing that certain tasks may not be easy and may result in unsuccessful attempts before finally, «getting it!» Seeing those smiles and twinkling eyes when information clicks is what we strive to achieve.

Our motto is best expressed by a well-known Benjamin Franklin quote: «Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.»

About Shirley Allen

As a life-long educator and learner, my career spans numerous years of experience as a classroom teacher, district administrator, adjunct college instructor, and committee member of the New Jersey English Language Arts’ state testing program. Reflecting on my extensive career in education, my next path became crystal clear: supporting, guiding, and coaching learners in a tutoring setting.

During my tenure as an educator in the public school venue, I continually wanted to grow professionally to enhance my teaching practices. After receiving my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, I returned to graduate school to become a certified reading specialist. To continue my growth as a learner, I became the first National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Camden County, NJ.

Knowing my learners and infusing researched teaching and learning best practices, continue to guide my current path in working with individuals in a tutoring capacity.
