What a nice place. Staff was sweet and helpful. The food was tasty and plenty. I had b-b-q sandwich with sweet sauce. Good! Sweet coleslaw, yummy. Mac and cheese very warm and creamy. It’s a definite re-order. My husband had meatloaf he said was good. Then plenty of dessert choices. If we lived close, we’d be here often.

Quaint and tasty local diner with great service and food. I was on travel for three weeks in Marion so tried all the local spots and this was my favorite by far. A good selection of down home diner food but the pie kept me coming back. And what a selection! The pie is what makes this a 5 star. I had the meatloaf, jambalaya, chicken and dumplings, and ham sandwich. All were very good. The ham was super tasty and I was surprised how good the jambalaya was for the area. The rolls and honey butter start each meal off right. I also liked the potato salad. Not a huge fan of the salads because they throw shredded cheese on it and not a good dressing selection. But hey I didn’t come here for a salad anyway. They have a huge selection of baked goods. I tried the buttermilk, chocolate chess, coconut cream, and Kentucky derby. All were worth getting again but my favorite had to be the Kentucky derby which was pecan and chocolate. When warmed up with whipped cream it was like a super gooey giant cookie. I went back my last night just for that one last time!

Wow. Great food! What a unique little place right off the interstate. Stopped here because the reviews were great and they did not disappoint. Being from Texas this place really hit the spot. They were spot on with their southern dishes and we both left happy. Hubby had pulled pork minis and I had the meatloaf and the homemade rolls and honey butter was amazing. We left with two pieces of pie for the road and hope to stop on the way back through in about a month.

Delicious. I travel a lot for work and often plan my travel around being able to eat here. Super friendly staff. Great pie selection. I don’t have enough room to type about everything that is great about this place.

A mixed review from a group of 7… Jambalaya was great, poppyseed chicken casserole so so, chicken was dry, BLT platter good, turkey platter with mashed potatoes and green beans: all of it cold

Option No 1 was gone so we found a different option, Honeybakers restaurant in Marion. Unilocal rated Honeybakers 4 stars. When we found the restaurant it was located in a strip mall. The inside was very old and dated. Just Inside the door there is a display case displaying their baked goods. Even with the 4 star rating I didn’t have very high expectations based in my initial reaction to the exterior strip mall façade & dated interior décor, but first impressions can be deceiving. We was pleasantly surprised. The service and food was very good. Our waitress and other staff members were very friendly & helpful explaining menu items. First she brought these hot rolls and butter with honey mixed in that just melted in your mouth. Then we ordered our dinners. My wife ordered light. She ordered a delicious tomato soup, salad and a baked potato to die for. This potato came with butter and brown sugar on the side(to die for). Her brother ordered a turkey sandwich that came with tomatoes, bacon & slathered with melted cheddar cheese & fries. Good, but very messy. I ordered the pork lovers special. This was a sandwich with roasted pulled pork, baked ham & bacon bits(Didn’t see much) & barbecue sauce. This was pretty good, but much better with the barbecue sauce. This was also messy to eat. The people working in the restaurant were all very friendly and outgoing. When they could out we were going to Shawnee National Park & The Garden of the Gods) they gave us additional information on potential places to visit in the park. Very nice people & good food equal a good dining experience.

We had our family reunion at Honeybakers last year. The place is very quaint and the smell of pie and cake will meet you at the door. The bakery itself was clean and the servers were very polite and respectful. My glass of tea never went empty and I rarely saw the waitress feel it up. The service was not overbearing or smothering and the employees worked smoothly around us. The food was amazing! I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup with ravioli. I was stuffed after I ate. However, I wasn’t so full that I didn’t have a piece of key lime pie and it was out of this world!!! I honestly walked in with very low expectations about this place and walked out a huge fan! If you are in Marion and you find yourself looking for a great place to eat a quick lunch, look no further than Honeybakers!

The best food and ultimate desserts in all of southern Illinois! I had a piece of Coconut pie from Patti’s then went to Honeybakers and it was so much better! Fresh foods and delicious desserts! Love their food!

Marion’s best kept secret!!! After seeing commercials on tv for this place we finally decided to give it a try. We were seated immediately and within minutes had our sweet tea and rolls on the table. Food portions were very generous, the restaurant and rest rooms were very clean. Our server did a great job keeping our glasses filled and table spot less. I had the roast beef which was laid on top of mashed potatoes and toast. Finished the meal off with the biggest and tastiest piece of coconut pie I had ever seen! Great experience, we’ll definitly be back!

Yum! My fiancé and I were driving through Illinois and decided to stop here. Normally we go to a chain restaurant when we are on the road, something familiar. We are SOGLAD we stopped here! Everything was delicious! Homemade everything — best potato salad and coleslaw. Homemade rolls with honey butter served with every dish. Fresh tasty iced peach tea(other flavors too but do not recall). Lots of menu options — southern spin on the food — pulled pork, etc.

I’ve eaten here a few times, mostly to no complaint. Unfortunately, I just had to walk out of here after sitting for 45+ minutes over lunch and never getting food. The last we heard from our waitress was 25 minutes prior to leaving, she said,“your food will be right out.” May not ever return. Wasted hour, now eating at Arby’s.

Perfect southern style green beans. I loved them. Homemade rolls and bread delicious. Pulled pork BBQ was good, as a woman from the Deep South, I’m a bit particular about my BBQ and this was great but not quite perfect. Had to pour my BBQ sauce on top of my pulled pork sandwich. Most authentic joints in the south would’ve had it mixed in already and the sauce was much more northern style. Service was excellent too. If we ever pass through southern Illinois again we will likely stop here.

Went to Honeybakers regularly while living in the Marion area. The way I remembered tj was Fridays they have poppyseed chicken on special, this may have changed since then. However, the service was always top notch and the poppyseed chicken exquisite. Oddly enough I first fell in love with poppyseed chicken during my days at Shawnee Community College and thanks to connections, I obtained the recipe and it is now a staple in my home. I’m planning a trip to Southern Illinois in a few weeks and have business to do in Marion, Honeybakers will definitely be brought up as a lunch location that day

I never give reviews for restaurants that I’ve been to only once, but considering that this restaurant is in Marion, Illinois and I live in Chicago, I doubt that I’ll have many opportunities to frequent this place. Regardless, I’ve rarely had the chance to experience such a heartwarming meal than the one I had tonight at Honeybakers. I’m down here from Chicago for work. My client told me to avoid the plethora of chain restaurants that litter the streets in and around Marion(and no, he didn’t put it in those terms). He told me that I had to try this place that serves home-style southern comfort food. It took me a while to initially find the restaurant. It’s located in a remote strip mall immediately off of the main road that cuts through Marion. I walked in and thought the restaurant hadn’t opened for the evening because I was the only one in there. I took my time to go over each dish that they served, including a number of sandwiches and bbq. I ended up choosing the Honeybaker platter and a diet coke. In no time at all, out came a cup of vegetable barley, Honeybaker’s signature bread with honey butter, and my platter that was packed with green beans cooked in ham hock, meatloaf, and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Was it the best southern food I’ve ever had? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. However, it was above decent given the price point, and that it hit the spot after a long day of driving to get here from the airport in St. Louis and client meetings. What truly made the night was the hospitality. Having been a server myself at Sunshine Café in the Andersonsville neighborhood of Chicago, I have somewhat of an idea of what it means to have good service. The waitress was extremely nice and attentive. At the end of my meal, I chose a Reese’s pie to take back with me to my hotel. My server asked me if I wanted a diet coke and another piece of the Honeybaker bread and honey butter. I gratefully obliged. The dessert was top shelf. Not too sweet and made my typing this brief for work a bit easier. That’s all I can really ask for. So, in short, if you ever find yourself in Marion or if you’re in St. Louis and you don’t mind taking a somewhat long-distance drive, be sure to stop at Honeybakers. It certainly beats the Steak and Shake that’s directly across the street from my hotel room.
