Double R Ranch

You don’t get more authentic than this ride! My father and I went out to horseback ride for the first time in over 10 years. Ron was amazing! An extremely relaxing ride and informative day. Made me want to learn horseback riding for real so the next time I go out there, I can do one of the more advanced trips. My father and i both agreed; when we get back out to the area we’re definitely doing this again. And bringing our family members!

This is one of the best rides I’ve been on; I tried the «Outlaw» out & it was very fun to trot & run around the property a bit. I ride horses back home & riding with Ron & Athena was like riding with friends; relaxed, personable, genuine people & the horses are trainrd reslly well. You can tell they put in a lot of time with the horses & take really good care of them. The horses seem very happy & you can tell they really enjoy their life on the ranch. When I come back to Tucson, I’ll come back to Double R Ranch to get my horse fix for the week.

Excellent! I surprised a friend for his birthday with a sunset horseback ride and dinner and «horse lovers experience» (you get there an hour before your ride and help groom and tack the horses). Our guide, owner Rob, was very patient showing us how to prep the horses and teaching us how to ride. The ride itself lasted about 1.5 hours across stretches of desert near the ranch (I’m glad we wore jeans, as you brush against trees and thorns). After we had a great dinner at the ranch house. I HIGHLY recommend. Our hosts were patient and we got a great value out of our time there. Thanks Double R!

Cant say enough good things about this ranch. The couple who own it, they are so nice. I surprised my husband with horse backing riding and a sunset dinner. The horse backing riding was amazing with the perfect Arizona sunset. We never been a horse before. John the wrangler was very patient with us and assisted me tremendously and gave me great tips to ride well.
Sunset dinner was perfect. Renee made us a delicious chicken dish, sweet ice tea, bread, wine glasses, little jar dessert. You can hear crickets, birds, dogs, horses make noise. Is the perfect country experience.

Absolutely love this place. I’ve been riding since I was a kid, but now that I’m older, I don’t seem to find the time, so my one or two rides a year are important and I wouldn’t spend them anywhere but Double R. The wranglers are kind, welcoming and intelligent. The horses are fabulous. The location is off the beaten path, in a great way, and the views are incredible. If you’re looking for an affordable, high-​quality, enjoyable riding experience in Tucson, I can’t recommend Double R enough!

Really great experience. We did a one hour ride that was a Groupon deal at the time. It was definitely for beginners, they assumed we knew nothing about horseback riding which is exactly what we were looking for. They have plenty of other riding options for advanced riders.
The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The ride through the desert was beautiful and we had a blast.

Let me just start off by saying today was the third day in a row we came to double R ranch… That’s how good it was. We are from NY and staying in tucson for only four days and came here to ride for the 3 out of 4 days! First we did a one hour trail ride, then the next two days we came for fast rides! Carla and Renae came with us on the trails, but first made sure we were ready to hit the road. They went through the steps thoroughly and were there with is the whole way. They even fed us! They are the friendliest group of people we’ve encountered here in Arizona. Definitely a MUST go to! We had Rosa and Moki as our horses and they were super friendly, sweet horses. Love love love it! 10 stars if I can!

I can’t say enough great things about Double R Ranch. My parents, sister, and I all went to the Ranch for the sunset ride and none of us had ever ridden before, but there was something about this place and the people that put us all at ease. We were able to help set up the horses and brush them down and then hopped into the saddle. All of the horses are gentle and Ron says they work very hard at training the horses so that anyone — from a child to a senior — can ride them comfortably. Well, their hard work shows. Ron led the ride with patience of Job. If a horse ever got out of line (and I mean literally, just walked away from the pack by a few feet-​nothing scary) he gently coached its rider how to get the horse back on track. My mom called Clara (she helps out with the rides) a «people-​whisperer» as she was able to keep her calm and knew everything to say and do for a nervous and novice rider. All the horses were used to the trek so rarely needed any directions, but responded immediately to the slightest touch. We paused our journey for a breathtaking sunset, then made our way back to the ranch.
What greeted us on our return to the ranch was something out of a Martha Stewart magazine. Renee, Ron’s wife, and their small staff had set up a beautiful spread for dinner on their porch. Dinner was fantastic, and the company was even better. We sat and talked with the other riders and Ron and Renee over candlelight. Both Ron and Renee are such genuine and wonderful people, and really care about how you enjoyed yourself in your time at the Ranch.
If you’re looking for a real and beautiful riding experience, I can’t recommend this place enough. Tucson has its big, flashy ranches (ie White Stallion, Tanque Verde), where you usually have to be a guest to ride and where you may be part of a crowd. The Double R Ranch is a completely different and extremely personalized experience. It’s a very calm and laid-​back place with people who genuinely care about you and your comfort level and truly anyone can ride here. You are sure to have an experience here unlike any other and I assure you it will be something you never forget.

Have you ever ridden a horse? It’s an amazing experience. The bond between man and horse is a healing experience that can be fun and exciting. The wind at your face and the view you get from the top of a horse are amazing as you stroll through the vast Tucson desert.
The sights and sounds of horse riding are memorable and should not be missed while in this life or while in Tucson for that matter. Owners Ron and Renee are veteran horse handlers from New York. Coming to AZ for a bit of a change and to take in the amazing southwest these two are knowledgably and friendly.
The horses are characters all their own. Some shy and quite, others more independent and natural leaders. These rides are nice and smooth but if you’ve never ridden stay under 2 hours otherwise your bum will hurt something vicious.
Rides are best with a group of friends. So call and have yourself an experience you will always remember. Bring extra cash for Water and Drinks. You do get thirsty after a good ride.

Ron and Renee are wonderful, warm, and knowledgable. They have a fantastic location for trail rides and a large number of horses for many skill levels. They are very welcoming and eager to have everyone experience the cowboy life. We had a great ride at a great price.
