History

Established in 2012.

In 2012 Maliki Cottrell the founder and C.E.O. of I-​HAUL-​JUNK Inc. entered into a business plan competition. The requirement of the competition was that the business must not require a store front and must be able to hire as many people as possible, so Maliki decided to start I-​HAUL-​JUNK Inc. The judges where so impressed that Maliki won Start-​Up capital to take his business to the next level and the life long support of seasoned entrepreneurs. Today Maliki leads teams of up to twelve on a daily basis removing junk from all over the city.

When Maliki Cottrell, founder and C.E.O, was 14 years old his neighbor hired him and a buddy to help her move some things from her house onto a truck. When the job was done she paid each of them $ 50 and let them even keep a few things that were left behind. Through this experience, Maliki knew he could start a business removing junk, but just wasn’t ready since he was only 14. So fast forward a few years later and during his sophomore year in college Maliki decided to take action by forming a business plan and incorporated I-​HAUL-​JUNK Inc in 2012. Today I-​HAUL-​JUNK Inc. removes junk daily from Residential and commercial location within NYC.

I highly recommend going with ANY other company. In my 20 years of being in my field, I have never worked with a company, let alone an owner, that is so ill mannered and unprofessional. The owner tried to add over $ 230 to the initial cost for inaccurate reasons and continued to yell and personally insult me because I refuse to pay it. I felt so embarrassed for him at the scene he caused. Just shocking.

They overcharge and will arrive an hour and a half late and act like they’re doing you a favor for showing up?! Wth. Be warned, Maliki and this other guy that was there with him do not care about your public apartment property. So if you have furniture or anything that is slightly heavy, they will carry it outside of your apartment and then when you’re not in sight they will literally slide sharp, heavy objects down across the floors. So much so that I was billed by the damage from my building!

These guys were awesome, and I’m definitely planning to use them again when I toss some items from my storage space in a few weeks. I was so happy with the service, I actually texted a friend (who’s moving soon) to recommend them while they were still at my place loading the truck with my stuff. They were really friendly and professional, and got my huge pile of trash bags and an insane amount broken-​down boxes (there were hundreds) out of my apartment in a few minutes. The price was really reasonable, and lower than the other places I’d checked out. It was also super easy to book online, and on the day of my appointment, when I realized I needed to move the time to a few hours later, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to do that online as well. They ran a little late getting to my place, but someone from the office called to let me know they’d gotten stuck in traffic and would be there soon, and they showed up within a reasonable timeframe. I always plan for some extra time when I call any kind of moving/​hauling service anyway – in this city I feel like they’re up against too many variables to guarantee they’ll be there right on the dot. All in all, the service was everything I could’ve hoped – affordable, friendly, efficient and professional. Tops!

Maliki and Kareem did a great job removing a large awkward sculpture from my studio. Communication was easy, the appointment was scheduled right away, they came on time and charged a fair price. Overall, a great experience.

These guys were great! I had a HUGE sofa sectional that needed to be moved out of a 3rd floor walk up. It was very very heavy and this was super difficult. Maliki and his coworker took on the challenge. It took a while but the sofa made it out. They were as careful as they could be under the circumstances, and they were very polite and courteous. The price was adequate, service was great. I recommend I-​Haul-​junk to anyone who needs a bit of help hauling their junk.

Couldn’t recommend these guys more. I booked the appointment on Thursday for early Saturday morning. We had a full bedroom that my parents had turned into a dreaded junk room. A whole 10×12 room just filled practically to the ceiling. These guys showed up and while it took them 3 hours to do cleared the whole room and loaded it onto the truck and took it away. They were super nice and didn’t really have a problem with packing up a lot of our stuff into garbage bags because it wasn’t already just ready to go. I looked around for a while to find a place and I’m so glad I went with these guys.

Maliki and his co-​worker (sorry — I forgot your name!) called to confirm the appointment, and showed up on time. We had three large, heavy pieces of furniture which needed to be carried down a flight of stairs. They were able to negotiate the stairs without any damage to the items or the walls. There was enough additional items that they needed to make a second trip, but they gave me a return trip time, and picked up everything I needed to have removed.
I needed a quick response, as we were selling my parents house, and these guys were top notch. They were prompt, friendly, polite, efficient and reasonable. Thank you so much for your excellent service — I hope you continue to succeed in your endeavors!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Maliki and his colleague arrived on time (early in fact!) — and they were so courteous. I had a massive entertainment center that was solid wood and so heavy… And they had no problem removing it in less than 10 minutes. I had booked them only the afternoon beforehand and the entire process was so easy. They were also half the price of 1−800-GOT-JUNK. If you need stuff removed then do not even hesitate to book them — they’re great.

I-​Haul-​Junk is outstanding! Maliki arrived 15min early — they do not give you the standard two hour window — instead they were early! Very professional, no games, friendly. Responds to emails within 5 minutes. Took my junk out of a storage unit in Queens and the whole job was done under 20 minutes. Cheap and fairly priced compared to other companies. Highly recommended!!!

Maliki and Stephon where great, they did a excellent job. Most importantly they where on time and professional and fast I will use them again and the price was right. I had alot of furniture and glass table tops and mirror panels and a large old Sony Wega tv (big and heavy) and two large armoires, out with the old in with the new. These guys are great.
We’d putting off for years getting rid of our large, 40 year old couch. We recently found something that could replace it and we had to get rid of the old one, fast. We found I Haul Junk through Google and Unilocal on a Saturday afternoon (yesterday) and made an appointment for the next day (!) (Sunday – today).
The truck arrived a few minutes late, but that was OK, because they called in advance to let us know about that. Nice guys, got the job done fast. The cost was consistent with the rates they advertise on their website.
I’m still amazed that we got rid of a big volume piece of furniture in less than 24 hours. The fact that they called in advance with their arrival time and that they were very nice and very professional adds to the amazement.
