Disappointed. The service was good, even for a very busy time, they seemed on top of it. I asked for 4 lb chuck roast. It was a little over $ 8/lb. I paid and took my bundle home. Later in the day when I opened it up to start preparing my roast I discovered it wasn’t one piece of meat; it was cut into two big flat pieces like two giant steaks. Tied together they might cook like a roast. They might be ok. But it’s not what I ordered. I wish the person who helped me had told me that was all they had.

The meat guys are AWESOME! Don’t know what I’d do without them. You must use them if you’re cooking meat for a large group. They make it SO easy!

Not only does Manhattan Grocery have the traditional groceries you would expect, they also have plenty of souvenirs and beach paraphernalia. When I was in there recently I saw people purchasing beach towels while they were there. So if you are at the beach and realize you forgot something, just run up to Manhattan Grocery. They probably have what they need.

The quality of the market has definitely gone down since the family that owned it for years sold it off. It still is convenient though for beer and snacks. Too bad, they used to have a great wine selection and even deliver in the neighborhood. The separately owned meat market in the store(see Manhattan Meats) is still top quality.

A dark horse amongst shimmering pearl stallions, Manhattan Grocery has maintained its supremacy of the downtown market scene(Vons = yawns) since its inception in 19-God knows when A.D. Great sandwiches and delectable deli items make this market a necessary stop-off for the weekend beachgoer. I’m not about to take my weekly grocery list here, but for the area it’s in, and for the services it offers, it cannot be overlooked. When I was still a magical apprentice and working at the ice cream shop across the street, I used to dine on their turkey sandwich with squaw(the legacy of the native americans!) quite often. It was around 5 dollars for a very large, delicious sandwich, and I was never disappointed. However, prices on regular items are steep. Beer is not on the spendthrift’s grocery list at the manhattan grocery. However, beer may be on the manhattan grocery list of underaged out of state license holders! Godspeed!
