Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling

This is the story of a company that had a complete fail start to finish with the work we hired them to do at the suggestion of our Insurance company USAA.
In July 2015, we had a minor flood in our kitchen that did minimal damage to the tile floor but leaked through to the basement causing some drywall and ceiling damage.
We called Paul Davis Restoration at the suggestion of our insurance company. Their «expert» came out to estimate the damage and repairs needed. His estimate seemed to get lost and did not show up at the insurance office until August. We decided that while the kitchen floor as going to need to be completely replaced that we would like to get a different flooring. They insisted that we work with their flooring people (Quality Carpet One) even though we had heard some negative things about the company’s high prices, and we did not get a good feeling from the salesman who came to measure our room. We were originally told that there should be no problem with substituting the wood floor for the tile because of labor costs… then told that in order to have the floor we wanted we would have to come up with an additional $ 800.00. Then we were told the floor we had to settle for would have to be ordered because no one kept it in stock. (Other companies in the area had plenty on hand… we checked.)
It is now September already… and NOTHING has been done…
We got a call Sept 13 saying that «unexpectedly» PDR could get a crew out the next day. The first set of workmen showed up — subcontractors — they were really great workers, but came having been told they were supposed to tear up our kitchen, when in fact they were scheduled to do the repair work in the basement so we could have somewhere to PUT all the cabinets etc that had to be removed from the kitchen. One that was cleared up they were great to work with. IN two days they completely gutted, rebuilt and painted the basement area and left it spotless. The second group of contractors showed up — five young guys horsing around. They broke the counter tops in the kitchen playing around while the were removing them — one of the guys said… «do think she will notice that crack?» not knowing I was standing right behind him. They also destroyed the island in the kitchen. We were told that even though the insurance company would pay to replace the counters, we could not get the material that was already there and would have to change out all the counter tops in a different material. Yet another delay of months.
The flooring guys that Carpet One sent over to do the floors did not speak English at all and had our brown velvet sofas on end sliding them around on the floors that the tile and carpet had been taken off of and not covered with plastic etc.
They got the living room floor down in a day, then vanished again with the kitchen left undone. Becuase of the way they removed the kitchen tile they could not get the flooring level. Rather than take up the ruined flooring and lay new flooring, they kept trying to hammer and sand it down to a level they could use. They spent 3 more days doing this, and then decided to lay a new thinner flooring over the on that was already there (which made an even more pronounced step up from the living room level to the kitchen.) They finally got that in, but forgot to finish the shoe molding… that took them 3 more months.
Originally we thought we were being generous thinking they could have this work done by November 1. But through lack of communication and miscommunication and just stupidity the project was not completed until January 8.
I got no responses from the people running our project, the Coordinator did not return calls in a timely manner and did not respond to emails until it was a day or two later. when I finally started posting complaints to the Facebook page of the parent company, I got a call from the owner of the franchise apologizing, but not really making anything any better or speeding up the project…
On top of this — the Insurance company pays Paul Davis Restoration up front BEFORE they ever start any of the work, so there is no incentive for them to do the work well or in a timely manner.
I would NEVER recommend Paul Davis for ANY kind of contracting work!

We had a water backup in our basement, and Paul Davis R&R did all the repair work, plus some remodeling. The work was excellent, done on time, and according to the estimate. They even did some extra electrical work which wasn’t in the estimate at no additional charge. As with any contractor you need to double check with the crew on such matters as paint color, how a light fixture is hung, etc. It’s my experience that, inevitably, there will be something lost in translation between the estimate/​work sheet and the job (and I don’t just mean English to Spanish, since many crew members are immigrants). That said, Paul Davis is as good, or better, than any contractor I have used.

We’ve had a number of contractors work on our home over the years, but Paul Davis was probably the very best. We recently had water damage in a bedroom and bathroom which required an extensive amount of work. The company managed to save our carpets and replaced walls, doors, trim, tile, etc. The work was flawless. They even managed to special order tile to restore my 1964 bathroom to its original state. They did a great job – in fact they made the bathroom better because they ultimately fixed flaws from the original construction. Alex and his crew of tile specialists were incredible! All the tradesmen were very professional and did not rush through the job. We couldn’t be happier! Phil and Jeremy were also a joy to work with. Highly recommend!

Had workers in my apartment today to fix baseboard and do some painting. In the past when people have been in to fix it things I’ve let them use my bathroom without issue when they’ve asked. Everyone has to go so it’s understandable; what isn’t understandable is why they thought it was okay to treat it like a bar bathroom. First of all, they did not ask, which I consider a common courtesy. Second of all, I go to use my bathroom in the middle of the job to find they left the toilet seat up. What put the kibosh on my wonderful experience with the workers is after wanting to use my bathroom after they left, I discovered I was left with an unflushed toilet. I spoke with a supervisor who did not see even the least bit contrite over the actions of his workers. I will certainly never use or recommend this business again.

PD was a recommendation from our insurance company but I would not recommend the company to anyone. They were unprofessional, sloppy, and did not care for our home. We had to have tile laid in a bathroom and minor dry wall repairs after water damage. There were issues with the crew from start to finish. The project manager was not responsive at first to set work dates and pick out supplies. We had to stay on top of him. Materials were ordered wrong and instead of correcting it up front they tried to still use the wrong materials. We had to ask them to redo a lot of work because they went ahead using the wrong materials. The crew did not care for our home the way other professional contractors have. They did not wear booties over their shoes. They did not cover our furniture appropriately resulting in some property damage. They cleaned out their equipment in the front lawn dumping paint and cement residue all over the lawn, and they did not clean up properly after themselves. I would not recommend using PD services.

Very Professional — Paul Davis was the firm contracted by my homeowner’s insurance company, though I had the option to seek another service provider. Their appraiser arrived precisely as scheduled, took measurements and inspected the areas requiring repair, and provided a final estimate within 24 hours. I delayed repairs to have additional elective work done (new windows), and PD contacted me every 2 weeks for months so I would know that I had not fallen off of *their* radar screen. When I finally told them to come out, they scheduled my work promptly. The repairs (plaster work, painting) were meticulous, and I am delighted with the results. I recommend them without reservation or hesitation.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY FROM PAUL DAVIS!
The only reason I am leaving 1 star is because zero stars are not optional.
My condominium development contracted with Paul Davis to perform repairs after a water pipe burst. The contractors used during the build back were horrific. The work product was terrible and I had to fight with Paul Davis at every turn to get them to do the very minimum required. The contractors, scraped, smudged and knocked holes in every wall of my condo. After I complained to management, they painted over all of the damage without repairing the damaged sheet rock, and stated management had not authorized sheet rock repairs, only painting. The contractors cut wood flooring, base board and ¼ round inside of my condo and several months later I am still cleaning up the saw dust. The contractors argued with me over replacing materials that were damaged by the water and ultimately said they replaced all of the materials, which after further inspection I have learned is not true. When I finally contacted management of Paul Davis and told them I was unhappy with the work performed and the fact I had to continuously take time off of work for the contractors to return numerous times to fix what was supposed to be done originally, their response was «what exactly is it you want us to do?».
It has been a few months since the repairs were made and after multiple phone calls and a visit to my condo from VP Phil Holman, I have given up and realized that Paul Davis will only do more damage than good at this point. Unfortunately I will be spending my own money to make the repairs from the initial water incident and the mess that Paul Davis made of my new condo. Do your research and find another contractor when dealing with restoration or construction work of any kind and stay away from Paul Davis Restoration.

This was one of the most professional organizations I have dealt with in 10 years of contractors. PDR was assigned to me through my insurance company to restore some water damage on 2 floors. My Project Manager was Bob Willis. They gave an estimate, laid out a schedule, set expectations, and met every task assigned. The workmanship was fantastic and the workers were extremely clean. They were working in the children’s bedroom and made great care not to disturb anything and to keep everything spotless. Can’t say enough about this company and would highly recommend them to anyone.

I am a property manager for a large, aging building in Alexandria. It has a few leaks due to age and unit owner neglect. We hate the leaks but love having PDR come to the rescue!
They are fast, efficient, professional — experts in every way. They mobilize quickly — the last time I called them out here, I was hoping for under a 2 hour turnaround and they were here in 45 minutes (and most of that was the drive from Manassas).
They answer every resident’s questions as well as mine, which in a high rise means they answer the same one several times a day. They are unfailingly patient and polite which is a challenge as residents who have lost belongings in a leak or a natural disaster can be a little stressed and not always patient or nice. They reassure residents while not promising them anything they cannot personally deliver.
In a leak situation they do everything they can to salvage property in units. They dry out what they can and only dispose of flooring and belongings if necessary.
I have also used their haz mat service as we had a medical need arise which left blood all around the property both inside and out. They came to assess it quickly and all was gone in just over 24 hours from the initial incident.
Other companies I have used in my experience as a property manager just do not compare. Some may be able to be quick but they don’t have the consistent customer service that PDR has.

I want to start by saying I had to give them one star in order to review. Also, I want to say that I found the service people that came out had some of the same frustrations with their own company.
The communication within the company and with their clients leaves a lot to be desired. Dealing with them has been a disaster!
After a washing machine mishap, mold and then ulimately asbestos tiles were discovered. This required the removal of all the affected room’s contents, and for us to evacuate the home while the asbestos abatement process was completed.
I didn’t feel like they cared about us, the numerous delays caused by their internal miscommunication and ineptness, or that we have been displaced for over a month. A job that was originally scheduled to take 11 days is still ongoing here on the 33^rd day!!!
Crews have been sent to do work when the previous tasks have not yet been completed. Guys have come out to repair/​replace things without the right tools or materials to do the job. A mirror that broke while in their possession magically disappeared until I insisted that it be located.
I don’t feel like they even tried to turn our disaster around. As someone in the service industry myself, this has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a company whose mission is to help individuals recover from stressful events.
I would like to say thank you Andrew of Paul Davis for making a true and honest attempt to apologize for the experience we had with the company.
We met in person and he listened to all my concerns and assured me, as a company they would be discussing the issues on this job and trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I really am hopeful that it doesn’t!

Would never use Paul Davis. Recommended by Insurance company. Project Manager came out once to create the estimate, never saw him again. It was an endless parade of subcontractors to do the jobs. Was given a $ amount *allowance* for flooring, went to subcontractor to pick it up and wound up with a product half the quality of flooring in the home.
Also the estimate included a bunch of added costs, and when I told them these errors, nothing was changed on estimate. 3 months later, and project is still not done.
Would not reccomend any to use and if your insurance suggests them get a second opinion!

I would not recommend Paul Davis Restoration… here are the reasons. 1. When I had an associate come out for the estimate process, I was not able to be there but had a family member there. The associate left nothing except his card. No further instructions or documentation. 2. Days went by without hearing anything from them about the estimate. Finally I called them. When I left a message to speak with the assigned associate, he never returned my call. I called again and finally got something out of their receptionist… that the associate had submitted his estimate with my insurance company. 3. When weeks went by without hearing from them, I contacted my homeowners insurance company to find out what the hold up was. They said they never receieved an estimate from them. I still have never heard anything from the associate or the company with any explanation. I did try to contact the manager /​supervisor to express my concerns with no luck. The receptionist said no one was in the office. Well, after a month of waiting for these people, I’m still at step 1 with no progress made. Paul Davis, you’ve lost my business.

Clean, efficient, stayed on schedule! I had my floors redone, hall closet repaired after my AC leaked. Paul Davis also moved everything out of my house and replaced it all. GREAT experience. Will absolutely work with them again!
