History

Established in 1920.

Pinecliff was built in the 1920’s by JL Gish and his wife and sister in law. At that time Mammoth was transitioning from mining to a place to escape the «city» in the summer. Back then the «resort» was 15 cabins, a general store, post office and had tennis, horseback riding. In the 1950’s the property was subdivided into a little over an acre and the current 6 units, keeping the original name. This property has always been dog friendly, and the location backing up to several acres of open space is perfect for dogs and people too. The cabins have a timeless rustic feel. We do our best to make them comfortable with wi fi, TV, dvd players, outdoor chairs and bbqs. Hiking right out your door in summer months. Snowshoe, snow play and sledding right out your door in wintertime. Check out the Hayden museum in summer months for more area history and history on the Pinecliff. Hayden museum is out by sierra meadows ranch and open to the public with suggested donation.

Born and raised in Los Angeles I was amazed by the vast open space in the Mammoth Lakes and Owens Valley area. After visiting several times, moved to the area in 1996 to snowboard for the season and just can’t seem to move back to the city. Care taking these vintage cabins and living onsite provides a beautiful space in a great neighborhood. Interesting people seem to find this place off the beaten path and remind how special this area really is. Its enjoyable getting to see repeat clients, many who have history with Mammoth Lakes or the Pinecliff. Meeting great new people is fun too.
