UCLA Health Malibu – Family Medicine, Internal Med & Pediatrics

I have been taking my 2 boys to see Dr Simpson since my oldest was born 3 years ago. She is great and the only reason we had to leave was because we are moving across the country. I had a hard time finding a pediatrician I liked when my oldest was born, but I was so grateful to find Dr Simpson. Over the last 3 years, I have seen that office get much busier, so I think the longer wait times are just reflective of how busy they can get. Overall, I have had a wonderful experience there and wish we didn’t have to leave!

I never went to UCLA Malibu before as a patient but I’m glad dr V referred me
I found both professional and thorough and I hope to continue my care w them for years to come

This is my first ever review but I felt inclined to leave it.
I relocated to the Los Angeles area late 2014 and in 2015 needed to find a new doctor for my annual exams. This office is close to work so I settled on UCLA Health in Malibu. My first visit was routine and went very well. Dr. Shaw (who no longer works there) was very pleasant and I had no complaints.
I’ve been trying to schedule another exam for this year and I don’t know if they are understaffed but it takes FOREVER to make an appointment. On three separate occasions I’ve sat on hold for over 15 minutes without anyone picking up. On one occasion I sat on hold for several minutes then when someone did answer, I was placed back on hold for an additional 5 minutes before I hung up. I understand that Doctor’s offices can be busy but even when I’ve called right at 8:30 AM (when they open) I’ve experienced a long wait. Maybe they could implement the call-​back option for holding patients. I think that would help greatly.

Had two appointments now for a physical, first appointment Dr. Bateman was not there when I turned up — the receptionist said they had tried to phone me to tell me, but I never received a message. Second appointment I check in and get shown to the consultation room, the nurse takes my blood pressure and temp and asks me to change into a robe. My appointment was at 10.30am — I’m still sat in my robe at 12pm waiting, I’m a Brit and we usually don’t mind a wait and have grown to expect it but this was too much. I told the nurse I would have to leave soon, waited — still no sign. I waited an hour in the room for Dr. Bateman in my robe. What’s the point in having an appointment system if it doesn’t work, I was told he was really busy today! Why not just do walk ins if you aren’t going to stick to appointment times. Seriously I thought the NHS was bad! I won’t be going back!

I have been a patient of Dr. Shaw since December. I was very hesitant to try a big medical group because I’ve heard that it could be like fast food medicine, but she really took the time and got to know me. I didn’t feel rushed out the door. Overall, she’s great! Very easy to talk to and answers emails very quickly. Her office is polite and you’re not waiting longer than 5 minutes. I believe she’s going maternity leave but I would highly recommend her after she comes back.

If you look at the individual Doctor’s Reviews you’ll see good things. But Since this has been my regular office for 5 years now and I’ve seen nearly all the doctors, I thought I’d give the overall place a nice review!
Until this last year, I’d see whichever doctor was available for my timing. They were all great. Friendly, easy, not pushy, helpful. This last year I saw Dr. Shaw though and fell in love. SUPER NICE and down to earth even though my first visit with her I was a bit of a grump. I’m sold. She’s my new regular physician and couldn’t be happier.
The new office is very neat, clean, and very cool and modern looking. It seems a little cramped in some of the rooms though, which is a problem for the techs moving around, not me! But the facility and staff are great.

UCLA Medical Group Malibu is the worst medical office I have ever dealt with in my life. I had a routine health visit last summer and they told me I had to come back the next day to complete the test so I asked if there would be an extra charge for the completion of the tests.
They told me there would not be so I came the next day and the tests were complete. Several months later I received a bill for $ 144. The total bill was larger but I have insurance that covered the rest leaving me with a $ 144 bill to be paid out of pocket. This is exactly why I asked them before the visit if there would be another bill.
I spent 6 months digging up all my paperwork on all my charges with the company to try to get it removed. Each time someone would talk to me they would try to switch the dates around on the bill to convince me that it was from a different date but I sent them records of paying for all my visits on all the dates.
I asked well over 20 times for someone to please get back to me and help me fix the issue. About 3 times they responded with new copies of the same bill with switched dates to try to get me to pay and the other 17 or so times they completely ignored me.
What’s worse is that I referred 3 patients to them before this happened so they have raked in thousands of dollars on me and my close friends and put me through this enormous waste of my time. Finally after 6 months I started showing up in person and pleaded that someone just tell me that they were either going to stick it to me and make me pay or fix this.
No one ever got back to me. Not even when I explained that I have a job where I preapprove people for financing and analyze their credit for a living and every day this goes by unresolved I get stressed out because I see all the time when these go to collections and people can’t qualify for a mortgage to buy a home or pay thousands of dollars more in higher interest rates from having these on their credit. Which if reported to a credit company will stay on a report for 7 years.
I finally gave up completely exasperated and stressing over my credit and mailed the payment. And the this same medical group who took my money and my friends who I referred and made me feel worthless by not being fair on this bill, cashed in my payment the day they received it. They are quick to tell you that you won’t get a bill, then will bill you, make it impossible to resolve it, and will take your money the second they get it.
I highly advise to not trust this medical group especially the Malibu office. They are disorganized, incompetent, and couldn’t care less about their patients even those who refer them other new patients. I wish I had never gone to see them.
