Ordered coconut milk hot dessert, it’s definitely too sweet. They put too much sugar in it. I thought it is gona be a natural coconut milk. Prefer their toro balls better.

The short version: Cute and inexpensive place, but the kitchen was so very slow, and the food thus cold, that I may never go back. The full version: I’ve lived in Malden Square for over a decade and I’m happy to be seeing lots of new shops and eateries opening. It’s great for the neighborhood. This was my first visit to Sweet Kingdom, which opened 2 months ago. I had been looking forward to checking it out. The décor is great. It is a small space with high ceilings and a look that emphasizes natural elements – woodgrain, stone, rustic metal – in an eclectic and clean way. There is free WiFi. The music playing was not my cup of tea – Rihanna and Eminem’s dysfunctional duet followed by bland Chinese pop etc – but it was not overly loud. I decided to order take-out. There were 4 or 5 other parties already seated – mostly teenagers with bubble tea. It was mid-afternoon and not looking too busy. I waited about 5 minutes for the hostess/cashier to deal with another customer. While waiting, I looked over the menu, which was printed on a large-sized postcard in very small English and Chinese text. It was not simple to read but that’s not a deal breaker for me. They mostly have various drinks, savory small plates, and waffles and pancakes. While I was ordering, another customer came up to the counter and interrupted me to complain to the hostess that she had made a mistake with their order. It seemed to me there were probably not enough employees to cover the shift. I ordered an iced Thai milk tea, octopus balls, coconut shrimp, mini hot dogs, mini crab cakes, scallops in bacon, and a mochi waffle. The savory dishes were all small appetizer-style items and all items were inexpensive – about $ 4 each. So this was not actually a lot of food. Then I waited… and waited and waited and waited. Other customers came in, were seated, ordered, got their food – both savory dishes and desserts – and still I waited. After 30 minutes(really), my iced tea and one of my hot dishes came out and the hostess began to prepare a bag for my order. I was not offered the iced tea so it warmed and melted before I could drink it. After 45 minutes, I approached the hostess and asked her how much longer it would be. She was apologetic and said it would be ready immediately. But it wasn’t. I was very late getting home by then, so I left and went home while my BF waited for our food. Ten minutes later – 55 minutes after I had ordered – our order was finally ready. That’s just not acceptable. It cannot take a restaurant one hour to prepare an iced tea, one waffle, and some small bites. We live right around the corner, so we were eating our food within 5 minutes of getting it but most of it was already room temperature. As far as I can tell, the kitchen had only been able to work on one or two items at a time, so nothing had come out together and most of the food was cold. The crab cakes were still slightly warm. I suspect all of the food would have been better hot. The crab cakes had an acceptable amount of meat in them and weren’t just breading. The scallops and bacon weren’t very good at room temperature and the scallops were tiny and dry. The bacon was okay. The coconut shrimp was pretty tasty even at room temperature. My daughter liked the mini hot dogs(pigs in blankets, really). The octopus balls were disappointing. The breading/batter was undercooked so they were kind of just a cold, doughy blob. They were cute on the outside, though. Judging from the big box of Bisquick I could see through the cashier’s pass-through to the kitchen, I don’t think the waffle was in any way«healthy» or «natural» as advertised(and I really wonder whether any of the items I ordered didn’t come from a frozen, pre-made box), however, the waffle was properly cooked and probably would have been quite yummy had it been hot. Unfortunately, it had sat so long with whipped cream on it that by the time we got it, the whipped cream had«broken» and the waffle squares were all full of watery«cream puddles». The mochi on the waffle was not something I would get again. It seemed dry and flavorless. I have never had mochi in a Chinese eatery so I will withhold some judgment on that and just say that this was *not* Japanese mochi in any way. The Thai milk tea wasn’t icy by the time I drank it but it was sweet, creamy, and tasty. All in all, the prices at Sweet Kingdom are so inexpensive that I would not have expected amazing dishes, and I would have been happy simply to eat the dishes hot. The place itself is also quite nice looking. But to wait an hour for a small amount of food, and to receive zero of seven items at the proper temperature, after waiting so long, just isn’t worth it. I hate to give mediocre reviews. I hope that Sweet Kingdom will improve its kitchen process because it’s other wise a nice addition to the neighborhood.

The tea and desserts are really great. The bubble tea tastes much better than what Kung Fu tea offers and is $ 1 cheaper. So glad they opened here in Malden.

I was really excited to go here with my friend and based on the reviews, i thought i would give it a try! I hate to write a really bad review. I guess this place is a hit or miss. And for me unfortunately, that’s a complete miss! I LOVELOVE the décor of this place. It’s cute and artsy. I was really confused with the menu at first and we had to ask them for recommendations. We end up getting the bowl of a bunch of random stuff in it. It was bland. Not sweet. The whole time it felt like i was eating plastic. My matcha bubble tea was also not good– it tasted weird. The bubbles was hard to chew. My friend got it in hot and it was softer. I guess you should order your drinks hot, if you like your boba soft and chewy. The only thing I liked from what we ordered was the fried octopus balls and the durian mango dessert.(btw i hate the smell of durian) but something about this is different. I like how creamy it was and for the smell– I could ignore it. it’s a great balance of texture and sweetness. I would recommend getting this dessert without even looking at the menu. Overall, I’m not sure if i will be back or not. We’ll see…

Bubble teas are not so good; they are cheap, so they are probably just right for the price. I ordered mango & taro moochi in coconut milk for $ 6, it was a very small serving as if they put something precious in it, but it was very plain. They need to chill on their prices.

No sugar coating at all, this place is a new favorite! The food comes out fast and hot, all within 5 – 10 minutes of ordering. The afternoon tea we got consists of lemon, peach, and apple. $ 9 and refillable. REFILLABLE. Yes! Note that they only refill the tea, not the fruit, so the fruity flavor will die down a little. Still, this is a great place to chitchat with your friends. The lychee waffle was only $ 3.95 and is a PERFECT snack. Not overly sweet at all. As for the taro mochi with red bean base, wow. For the price it’s definitely worth it. $ 1 a topping. Not bad at all. I can’t stop raving about the boba. Thank you for being the only place that cooks boba right. I really like the vibe here. It’s cozy and convenient– outlets and free wifi! I can’t wait to come again.

I love that the desserts and bubble tea are not super sweet. Prices are great and I like that you can mix and match ingredients. I like the herbal jelly and mochi.

I really like this place! The food are more suited to ‘asian tastes’ vs. the other Sweet Kingdom in Allston, so be sure to prep your non-Asian friends for what’s in store. Like, what is coixseed even? Oh it’s that thing that your mom would put in broth for you to drink. The prices are super reasonable and the portion sizes are HUGE, you can probably share some of the soups and desserts with a friend. The only complaint that I have is some of the décor. There is a very strong coppery smell at the place which I think is coming from the bells. No one else I know complains about it, so I’m probably just hypersensitive.

Sweet kingdom is a wonderful place to enjoy dessert, typical Chinese sweet soup and Fruit tea. The design is beautiful and tasty! Service is good. I like it so much and already recommended to my friends.

The menu at first look is very hard to look at, it’s almost intimidating. There’s 2 languages compose in 1 small menu and it’s quite of a struggle to read. I was confused as hell to be honest. It’s hard to understand the menu when there’s so much text on it. Maybe make a bigger menu or print 1 language on each side. I ordered one of their cold special moochis with red bean, chunks of mochi, and, boba but I was pretty disappointing. I don’t have the most sweetest tooth, but even I can tell that this was really bland and not really cold as I expected. It needed more sugar or something in it to give it that kick. The mochi became a little tough to chew because the pieces were pretty big. This may sound a little weird but when I ordered my thing, not even 2 minutes later my order came out very quickly. It felt a little premade and they had everything set and ready to go, quickly threw everything together. Bubble tea here is ugh, but as other starting places I guess they’re still working on it as with every other place. The actual boba I don’t like, their tea is okay, their milk tea has too much powder sometimes but it’s a hit or miss for me. Their thai tea lacks flavor but their green milk tea is meh. Décor in this place is really nice to be honest, pretty damn artsy. It’s a little noisy sometimes but it’s nice enough.

A few of my friends and I tried this place out last night and all of us were thoroughly impressed. We got the Thai Milk Tea, Original Milk Tea, and Matcha Milk Tea, and all were delicious. We didn’t have the chance to try their other desserts, partly because I was confused by the menu, but the boba was great. The interior was cozy and well decorated. I’ll definitely come back here to study(they offer free wifi) and try out the other desserts. Glad that there’s a place like this in the Boston suburbs!

I have been going to this place for a while now. I love their bubble tea. I always get the Thai milk tea. The tea is sweet and the bobas are great. Also their strawberry waffles are great tasting too. The only negative things is that they raised their prices for bubble tea and they only have one size cups but overall I think they should get five stars. I love it.

This is like the only 芋圆 place in Boston right now plus a lot of my friends were talking about this new place on WeiXin so I had to give them a try. Went there last Saturday night, I like the ambiance and the music(though it was kinda dark inside the restaurant). They’ve got a lot of dessertoptions, I got the mango waffle, durian pancake, thai ice tea, and bacon wrapped scallops and I ordered a few more things to go as well. The mango waffle was good but the syrup was way too sweet, guess it’s because I don’t have a sweet tooth. I like the durian pancake the most, it was already sold out when I tried to order some more to go, I think they should make more just in case. Overall it’s a great place, it’s worth going back again in my opinion.
