The Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore

Thank goodness for this place!!! Great selection, sensibly organized. Not just quilting fabrics, this is a real fabric store from the good old days with «dress making» fabrics for all occasions and applications.

I am a beginner so I bought a machine that seemed to be simple. After using it a few times, I was having trouble with the bobbin. The directions weren’t helping. I called Sewing Studio and they said I could bring it in. The wonderful man not only showed me what I was doing wrong, kindly, but gave me some other tips on my machine. I inquired about a class but he pointed out that I would have to use their machine. I was out of the store in 10 minutes. Back to my project!
I apologize to them as I didn’t realize my review wasn’t finished.

This place is the epitome of great customer service.
I know absolutely nothing about fabrics or crafts in general. I took on this DIY project, and I am on way over my head. I have been looking for the perfect fabric. After two nightmare Jo-Ann’s visits with terrible, horrible customer service, ridiculously expensive prices, and selection of fabrics I dislike, I found this Mecca of fabrics online.
It was a 40 minute drive, and after my experiences, I was disillusioned and skeptical. I went anyway. I swear, I had brought this little piece of fabric I liked from Jo-Ann’s with no information of what it was. This amazing lady help me found something comparable and in the color I wanted. The prices are very reasonable. I paid ¼ of what I would have paid at the other store.
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone is willing to help you out and answer all of your questions. I am not sure if it is a family-​owned business, but that’s exactly what the atmosphere felt like. Great business!

Based on the reviews, I was excited about this place and went out of my way on vacation to get there. It was a mixed bag. I really wanted buttons for several projects and while they do have a lot of them, the selection was either plain or outdated. I think Joann has a better variety. The quilt section is small but the fabrics were of good quality. Anyone shopping for wedding dress fabric would love it and they had lots of silk which is unique. They call themselves a discount ware house but I found their prices to be on the high end with very few discounts. What was outstanding was the ribbon and trim section. I found lots of great stuff. Most of the clerks were friendly and helpful but the woman cutting my ribbon seemed genuinely annoyed to be doing her job and didn’t even respond or look at me when I asked her a couple of questions. If you’re in the area anyway stop by but it’s not worth a special trip.

This store continues to amaze me! Absolutely love it! Great and helpful employees, always willing to help! The variety of supply is outstanding!
Could just spend a whole week shopping there! A MUST GO!

I love the Sewing Studio Fabric Super Store! They have it all! Plan to spend some time here.
When I visit Florida I make a special trip to this fabric store, because no matter what project I’m working on there is a fabric for it!
There are cottons for quilters, including specialty prints and batiks. There are fabrics for active wear and exercise, fabrics for almost any garment you would want to make from silk lingerie to woolen outerwear. There are elegant selections with sequining, beading, and embroidery for bridal or evening wear as well as a wide range of cotton shirting and wool suiting fabrics. The color ranges are excellent.
There are also a wide range of patterns for garments, and accessories as well as purses, bags and carryalls. They have lots of examples on display which will stimulate your imagination. if you see something pretty but aren’t sure what to do with it the displays might give you some ideas.
The customer service is excellent. The staff are experienced in many areas and will be able to help if you have questions. They are friendly and patient and willing to assist you, so don’t hesitate to ask.
There are also notions, tools, and machines for sale. It is a one stop shop, people.
Next time you need fabric or notions or if you need a sewing machine or want to upgrade your existing machine please look at the fabric superstore. I promise –you will be happy you did. And you might even meet a creative new friend while you are there:)

Extremely helpful employees and amazing selection of fabrics and supplies. Plan to return when I need more! I would so much rather support a local store than a big chain.

I just love this place! I have purchased designer fabric for my etsy shop from them for close to a year now. I recently purchased an embroidery machine from amazon and was having a ton of trouble with it today. I called, they said being it on in. The nicest guy (don’t remember his name) sat down with my machine for 30 minutes to figure out what was going on. Thankfully it was a needle & thread issue. I am so impressed with their customer service today! I will definitely be back for all my sewing needs. It is a little pricier than other fabric stores but it’s worth the few extra bucks!!!

How can anyone not give Sewing Studio 5 stars? Seriously!!!
Once upon a time, I imagined that I could use a sewing machine and make yards of fabric into wonderful outfits. I was so swept up in my lil daydream that my wonderful sisters bought me a brand spankin’ new sewing machine as a birthday present. YAY, HOW FUN! Well, after the initial excitement wore off; I realized that I did not hand sew very well, nor did I ever use a sewing machine before. I placed my sewing machine on my dresser like a prized trophy and never used it until years later. Thankfully, I snapped out of my ridiculousness and found a sewing master to teach me the ways of the thread.
If I can Unilocal for tummy yummies, then damnit; I will Unilocal for sewing stores!
So, you can kinda guess how I ended up at the Sewing Studio. I couldn’t help but notice how unassuming the store front was while parking, but walking into this store was a serious sensory overload! I’m talking about brightly colored fabric, high end sewing machinery, and endless walls of supplies! This was serious sewing jackpot!
Okay, so try to visualize the following:
–Arcade and chair right by the front door to occupy your uninterested SO
–Stretchy mesh fabrics to your left in the back corner by the entrance followed by the front register
–Right side walls are filled with various machine parts, supplies, ribbons, & tools
–Right aisle has all the machinery
–Left aisle has sewing related knick knacks mixed in with some machines
–Buttons wall is on the left side followed by the patterns collection.

Good, because that’s only half the store! The other half is obviously the FABRIC! There were so many types, colors, patterns, and textures that I couldn’t even possibly describe them all to you! It really feels like they have everything! I even found sushi fabric, umm GTFO! You bet your sweet Mamaw that I bought that cute fabric and made a wristlet for my sushi obsessed bff!
Moving on, the best part about initially exploring the studio was discovering the annex. In fact, the annex carried the chevron pattern I desired for the infinity scarves I wanted to make for my group of ladies. Huge score for me!
Besides the stellar fabric selection; customer service here is always on point. On my latest visit, Jane went above and beyond to help me locate the right fabric that I needed for my bridesmaid dress project. She asked me what I was planning on doing and then gave me some helpful suggestions. She was so sweet about everything!
I really appreciate the thought and detail that the store puts into their customer experience here. No wonder they have been around for 30 years! I really recommend a visit even if you don’t sew because who knows; maybe you will be inspired to start a project or two. Happy sewing!

Started coming here several years ago when my daughter was born, so I could make the decorative items for her room. Not only do they have a great selection of fabrics and patterns, the’ll order you in anything you want, including more fabric of what you already have if you run out. They also have a great selection of sewing and embroidery machines. The staff while seemingly friendly do tend to be a bit judgmental and don’t really like anything to do with knitting, cross stitching or crochet. However, they have the best selection of fabrics in town and it’s close enough from me so I can walk to it. I’ll put up with a bit of snobbyness for the convenience and quality and selection.

Glad to hear all the experienced sewers love this place, but it’s also THE place for beginners — they beat the internet on BOTH knowledge and price, so when you put them together, you really can’t beat this place.
I had never even sat down at a sewing machine. I didn’t own thread or fabric or pins. But I really wanted to learn to sew, and one day to be able to do heavy duty drapery and upholstery projects. So I had a feeling a beginner machine would leave me uninspired and still unable to do what i wanted.
After walking in and looking around at the machines (for the first time in my life), I realized I needed some direction, and Lyn popped up to offer help. After I explained what I wanted to do, Lyn didn’t even bother to explain the beginner machines. She walked me right over to a semi-​industrial machine that had a great balance of fancy features and price — nowhere near the thousands I saw on the fancy computer-​screened embroidery machines (which I totally could have been convinced were «better» machines — I was super clueless); and most importantly, the machine had power. She promised it would laugh at denim and heavy décor fabrics. Those all sounded like the right answers, and after the owner graciously worked with me on the price and personally walked me around showing me the basic things I would need to get started (scissors, chalk, thimble, etc.), I took the new baby home.
Only afterward did I do the online research to learn that not only did I end up with EXACTLY the right machine for my needs but that I could not have beaten their price anywhere. And when you consider the lifetime future discounts and personal lessons on operating the machine they throw in, I feel very lucky to have walked into such a knowledgable, friendly, and fair place.

On a business trip in Orlando and decided to look up the local fabric shops. This store had a ton of fabric and lots of variety. Batiks — Modern quilting cottons, apparel fabric, notions and trims. They also had a sale «annex» (aka a room in the back) with a few interesting items. Beware, the annex has different hours from the main store. I called to inquire about this and they said if the store was slow they would be happy to show me the annex. When I arrived 30 minutes later and asked about the annex they were fairly rude about my inquiry. So if you want to see the annex I recommend you come during those specific hours…

I bought a sewing/​embroidery machine here last year. What is great is that they provide you with free lessons on how to use the machine. Which is great because if i tired it on my own I would have broken the machine. The only issue is trying to schedule a time is difficult but its free so I can’t really complain. So far my instructor has been great and patient with me.
They also have classes for different projects and techniques. I haven’t bought any material here yet but they have a wide variety of fabric so I know when I need something special this will be the place to go.

Have to add exactly what everyone else before me has said… this place is the bomb! If you’re looking for a special fabric, unusual fabric, or just any fabric, you need to go here. They have walls covered in feather boas, a wall of buttons, it’s so overwhelming and amazing that this much stuff can fit in this little place. The amazing part, it’s also organized and beautifully presented. I have taken a basic sewing class here and I have learned a ton, stuff I couldn’t pick up from watching on YouTube. One of my favorite things is their bargain annex in the back. The back room has discounted fabrics and other sewing items that are heavily discounted and a wonderful selection. Today I checked in on Unilocal and I got 15% off of one cut of fabric, which was awesome! If you need anything for costuming, or just geeking out, this is the place to go.

Don’t let the exterior of this store throw you off, it’s pretty good. The cotton prices are 11.70 a yard, not a great deal, but they have a little bit of NYC garment district going on in the back and in a side room. In the past I have bought Victoria Secret Love lycra for $ 4 a yard and some polk a dot voile for $ 4 a yard.

The Sewing Studio is THE go-​to place for all things sewing. Fabric, notions, lace, flowers, feathers, buttons, machines, trim, classes, advice… this place seems small outside but believe me when I say it’s much like the TARDIS and bigger on the inside.
How they can cram so much amazing stuff in there and still feel tidy and organized is beyond me but they do it oh-​so-​well!
I always have to go straight back to the discount room and work my way back after I’ve picked it clean. That way I can fill my basket with odds and ends, then take up any empty space with the gorgeous fabric throughout the rest of the store.
Where they truly shine over Joanne’s is their supply of unique fabrics. I have never walked away without finding exactly what I needed, whether it be a black alligator vinyl or a byzantine damask.
The staff is also very friendly and not intimidating at all and are more than willing to help answer questions, even for us non-​traditional sewing mavens!

I have been shopping at the Sewing Studio for years and they almost always have that unique item that I am looking for… sometimes they even have the ones I am not looking for!
Their selection for so many different types of fabrics is amazing. No other place I have been to has high end evening fabric choices as well as a full complement of quilting cottons and everything in between. I sew a variety of different things, from costumes to retro styled day clothing and it is rare that I can not find something to suit my projects there. If I do get stumped, they have a lovely, knowledgeable staff to help me find what I need. If they don’t have what you need, they will order it.
Their prices are generally reasonable, but their rhinestone prices are very high. As a costumer, it kills me to have to get extra stones from them because I know they are nearly double the cost of other suppliers. They do have 2 40% off sales during the year and that is when I purchase the things I normally would rule out due to cost.

I am writing this for all of you who like me, do not sew. I periodically have needs or questions related to sewing, such as trying to find someone to do alterations, want to know if a dress can be altered or not or want someone to make a pattern for a pet. You get the picture — just about any odd request related to sewing. They point out things I would never think of which is incredibly useful. This is the place to go when you have questions like this because they really care and really know what they’re talking about.
It’s obvious the staff live the sewing life and know how to help you. They have a lot of remnants, too, which I’ve perused and purchased on occasion when looking to recover chairs, create an art project, etc.
It’s a smaller shop packed full of anything you would need for your sewing needs. I always go here instead of one of the big chains because they’ve got plenty of people to help you and who want to help you. A respected small business that has been around for years and hope it stays around for many more!

Ohhhh Sewing Studio. You’re one of the few places that excites me in ways only fabric hoarders understand!
I will drive almost two hours to get to you, especially on those special sale days (black Friday and those random holiday sales). I go looking for one project and buy for 8… there are just too many tempting things! This store will spoil you and make you hate going to JoAnns.
As someone else said, there’s a bargain annex. It has slightly different hours than the regular side of the store. But there are remnants, discounted bolts, lace/​sequin appliques, buttons, and other miscellaneous «stuff.» Between that part of the store and the regular-​priced side there’s some upholstery stuff (including vinyls) and trims. Then you progress to where I do almost all of my spending damage — apparel fabrics. They have chiffons, silk dupioni, and some other fancy basics on the walls of one corner. Nearby are silk and silky prints… A few steps in one direction puts you in bridal, and in the other sequined lace/​net. You’ll find some bottomweights, some printed lycras, heavy nonstretch velvet hanging near a huge variety of chainette or feather trims. I’ve poked through the drawers under one of the cutting tables and found a few varieties of high end rhinestone chain/​trim and immediately shut it before I bought all of it. If you continue on the loop to the front of the main store, there’s quilting fabric and buttons (tons of buttons!) on one side and notions, thread, etc. on the other. Up by the front of the store they have all their fancy machines set up for you to look at/​demo (they also have a repair center in one of their back office type areas) and then all their regular lycra (mostly nylon) — glittery, shimmery, weird prints, solids, some meshes… There are a few things hiding behind the counter — namely large rhinestones (decent quality, in my opinion) and a separate display box with a selection of costume jewelry.
If you’re looking for something fancy, this is the place to go. If you’re looking for a deal, sometimes one can be had (I’ve spotted certain things here for about 20% less than what my local independent shop sells them for in St. Pete). If you want something different, definitely come here. If you’re looking for special bra supplies (different shaped pads, a bunch of cup styles, underwires…) they have it. AND to top it off, the employees are nice and don’t ignore you. One of my last times I had the lady stop me before cutting fabric to verify I knew the price ($ 19/​y silk burnout made of rainbows and unicorns) so there weren’t any surprises.
Basically, what I’m saying is forget JoAnns. Especially if you live in the Orlando area. Just skip it. Most of what you get from JoAnns looks like it came from JoAnns. Stuff from Sewing Studio is new, trendy, and won’t make your projects look homemade, if you know what I mean.

I was searching for a certain type of fabric for my Halloween costume, and called many different places and visited several Jo Ann fabrics store. The selection at Joann’s was minimal. When I called the Sewing Studio, they said that they had a room of the fabric that I was looking for. Score! They are priced slightly high than your chain stores, but the service and selection is bar none. This place beats Jo Ann’s hands down!
