This fantastic
FREE
outdoor jazz series takes place every August and September at the intersection of State Street and Capitol Square. Featuring local, regional, and national talent, Jazz at Five has become a downtown Madison tradition for many music lovers.
To enjoy the concerts, you can reserve a seat at a table close to the stage, rent chairs for $
2
at the event, or just bring your own chairs. The first time I went, I actually just stood leaning against a wall across the street.
And, not only do you get to listen to some amazing jazz, there are also great food and drink vendors to satiate your palate. From Ian’s Pizza and the Capital Tap Haus to the Ivory Room Piano Bar and Capital Brewery, you’re sure to find something that will compliment the music you’re hearing.
(
A really cool side note: all of the net proceeds from beer sales are donated to Jazz at Five. Yes, you read that right. All of the profits from beer sales at the event are donated to Jazz at Five, Inc., the

Seriously, folks, what could be better than this great example of a community coming together for great music?
