DB’s Service Center

We were driving our Budget truck back to California after a university choral tour and stopped in to get some maintenance. They fixed us up completely in a few hours, were friendly and accommodating, and even recommended a nice diner where we could grab lunch while waiting. Dick was a nice fellow to us. Be sure to ask him about the German choral group he sings with!

This place represents Budget Truck Rentals. However, they refuse to help any customer that is in any type of situation. My wife and I moved to the Madison area, and after already having many issues with Budget, DB 66 did not help Budget’s cause in trying to be a company worthy of any customers.
We called DB at 7am on January 2^nd (they were closed the 1^st, and we could not leave any messages directly with the store), and asked if we could have an extra 20 mins to drop the truck off because of my mother-​in-​law having had a car accident, she had my wife’s car, and my car is a manual, and my wife doesn’t know how to drive a manual. The lady I spoke with was very terse, and said she was «alone» at the shop, yet after explaining my situation, put me on hold to check with someone about it. We quickly changed our pre-​made plans to accommodate DB saying «Have the truck here at 8am, or else».
We arrived at Budget at 7:55am, and we walked in and was promptly told by the lady that the Budget rep wasn’t here yet. We then waited TWENTY-​FIVE MINUTES until the Budget rep even showed up!!! The gentleman representative for Budget at the DB 66 location was very hostile with me, even at one point exclaiming «Do you want to argue?!». He then told me they do NOT represent Budget, nor do they have any power regarding costs from Budget.
There is only ONE reason I’m giving this business 2 stars, and that’s because we filled up the truck the night before, and when we got there, the needle was not pointing at the «F» on the gas gauge. We only had $ 5 on us, and we put it in the truck, and we were still short by ¹⁄₃ of a gallon ($ 1.10 at the pump). They did not charge us the fee for returning the truck without fuel. However, it took my wife (whom I consider the Mountain Lion to my Kitten attitude with customer service people) getting irate with him to get him to not charge us anything and check out.
I will *never* use Budget again, and it’s 80% because of the treatment that I received at DB 66. I am also going to be turning these poor reviews over to Budget directly. @Mitch — you drive around a BMW 5-​series… you are rich, and only get respect because you spend way too much money at a place that treats normal people like they’re scum. Not to mention, any Budget prices you got were not from DB 66, they were from Budget, as the «representative» there said they do not control any of the costs, nor do they «represent» Budget.

I went here because I was reccomended by a co-​worker. I was HIGHLY dissapointed. They were trying to rip me off because I am a girl, and charge me $ 1700 for a repair when I could get it done at home for $ 800. No thank you. On top of that, they closed before 4:30pm on a Tuesaday and I couldn’t pick up my car. I had to wait until the next day to pick it up.
Because I didn’t get any work done they wanted to charge me $ 70 to «look at it and do tests». This was supposedly for half an hour of work. Well I’m glad your mechanics make $ 140 an hour, but guess what I don’t. I make about $ 10. I argued with a man up front, who’s name appropriately read «Dick» on his uniform and finally I got to talk to the manager. Neither one of them were helpful. Later they said they would lower the cost to $ 40 if I paid cash. I am from out of town and don’t have a bank in Madison. I then asked if I could write a check and they said «No, that will bounce.» Then they were harassing me about how I was «going to pay in the first place to get repairs done». It’s called a debit or credit card you jerks. Overall it was a TERRIBLE experience.
I WOULD NOT go back here ever and would never reccomend it to anyone else… especially if you’re a girl.

I’ve been going to DB’s exclusively for auto service since I moved to Madison a few years ago. Overall very satisfied — probably would’ve given 5 stars if not for the time I was charged about $ 125 for a new battery (the price was later reduced when I discussed it with the manager). Mostly the service charges have been fair. Service work done well and in a timely manner. They do have a website for estimates on repair costs.
