We’ve been there twice with two different cars
Our Audi A4 is usually the most expensive for services and they have incredible pricing. We had the breaks done on the Audi, it was fast and they cleaned the car after as well! They have full synth oil changes cheaper than we were previously getting. I got a new alternator and belt put on for the Nissan we have and it was done within a day or two, also cleaned the interior of the suv.
Both times we had great experiences

I usually put all car stuff off til it can’t wait any longer, because I have anxiety about going to mechanics as a young woman who isn’t terribly educated about cars. But after just a few minutes on the phone with Midwest Engine Service, I knew I was in good hands. They have extremely good customer service – prompt, polite, friendly, and direct. I did not feel like they were condescending to me or taking advantage of my lack of knowledge just to get money out of me. Collin and Wayne laid out my options and offered their professional opinions without being pushy. Great customer service, loaner car, fast turnaround, and fair pricing (their tire price beat Costco by over $ 100) – I will go nowhere else for my car needs from here on out! Reliable, quick, and courteous service! My husband and I have taken both cars in a few times and we’ve had nothing but good experiences. They communicate really well with any issues and they offer really nice loaner cars for cheap. They also clean your car for you-​bonus! They are the only place we go to now.

My car had broken down while traveling through Madison. The team at Midwest engine were polite and helpful in getting my car back up and running so I could get home! I would recommend them to any one with any car troubles.

I was having steering problems so I took my quote to a different Madison shop. After getting a quote littered with overpriced parts I brought my car to Midwest. They promised to beat the quote and fit me into their schedule immediately. I was given a loaner car and sent on my way. They were right, they beat the prices of the other shop, and even promised to have the car running quicker than the other shop told me!
When I picked up my car I was shocked at the final price, almost HALF of what the first shop told me that I needed. Everyone was very honest and friendly at Midwest. The fact that my car was detail cleaned made my morning as well! It was a very pleasant surprise! My car drives incredibly now! Great fast and fair experience!

I almost feel like I need to write 2 different reviews because I have have 2 very different experiences.
One, I bought my Volvo from them and loved Dennis (the salesman). He didn’t BS around and was to the point. Love him. I would give him 5 stars.
OK Now. To the auto shop. Let me just say that Collin, the front desk attendant, is a D Bag. Excuse my language but he is. He is not very friendly at all and refuses to take any responsibility for his mistakes. I found him to be extremely arrogant and has no business doing front desk work.
To make a long story short, I called in one day to have a small service done to my car. I ask if there was any way to fit me in, if not, I could come back a later day. It was not very serious. Well, I was told to come in that day. So, I go, have my car «fixed» and leave. It was my mistake driving off and not inspecting my car because what I paid for is not what I got. I called about an hour later after I realized nothing was done to my car and complained. I asked to speak to a manager. A lady who gets on the phone. I tell her what my issues and she tells me I should talk to Collin. That made no sense. Why are you claiming to be the manager if you refuse to manage? I knew she wasn’t a manager because when I went in to get my car fixed, I could see her in the back room on Facebook doing nothing while I was waiting. So I get on the phone with Collin and he basically threw it in my face that the mechanic stopped working on someone else’s car who had an appointment to do something that took 5 minutes total on my car. I told him that was not my problem. I called and asked them that morning if I could be accommodated and if not, I would come in another time. He told me to come in. I didn’t force them to do anything. I wasn’t getting anywhere with him and he was starting to sound like a broken record. I ask to talk to a manager (again) and I know for a fact it was not the manager on the phone but rather the mechanic. I told him that for what they did, I could have done the job myself. His response to me was «well why did you come in?» Oh really?
I replied that someone who spent over $ 10K at their small business in less than a year doesn’t deserve to be treated like crap.
On top of that whole issue, I didn’t realize the service fee was $ 18 which was more than the product for fixing the car. OK. Fine I wouldn’t have just walked away from that had my car been fixed but it wasn’t and I felt completely robbed.
The customer service is horrible. Once they get your money, they do not care about how you feel about their quality of work. They need to get rid of Collin or someone will put him in his rightful place. Never met a more cockier person than him. I wouldn’t give them another dime. They do not appreciate people supporting small business. I will pay the extra $ and just take my car to Volvo for any mechanical issues.

I took my daughters car in to be repaired, because it was making noise in the front end. I dropped it off Monday and it was done by Tuesday afternoon. The service was great and the price was reasonable. Plus they washed it after wards.

Well, I have the privilege of writing the first Unilocal!review, and unfortunately, it’s not a good one.
Guys acted weird when I brought the car in, they did not make a very good first impression, so that did not inspire confidence. Then the prices quoted for parts and labor were about $ 2000 (yes, two thousand dollars) higher than for the same work to be done in Chicago.
Somewhat coercive, they wanted me either to agree to have these massively overpriced repairs done within one week, or be charged «storage fees» for the car to be on their lot. Huge parking lot and it’s not as if it costs them anything to have the car there or interferes with anything. Of course repair shops don’t want to have disabled vehicles left on their property indefinitely. But the unnecessary pressure is not going to be appreciated by a customer who is already in a difficult practical situation.
This place’s previous history of online reviews: obviously they have no track record on this site, this being the first review, and in that sense, are comparatively unknown. Then look on Google, no record until a one-​star review in 2010 for alleged «rudeness», then no reviews at all again for a year, then suddenly 16 five-​star reviews within three months this summer? The whole thing is very suspicious, and some of those reviews are definitely fake because the same shill reviewer (s) are also posting multiple five-​star reviews for a certain local dentist in Madison.
None of the above factors are good, also they did not tell me much about the engine condition that we didn’t already know. Don’t think the vague general information was worth the $ 110.11 that I was charged for the inspection.
BUT.. . the number-​one reason that they deserve one star for this particular transaction is:
When I opened up the trunk of my car, they had DETACHED THE TURBO PRESSURE PIPE from the engine and THROWN IT IN THE TRUNK. They also threw the hose clamps into the engine compartment, and left them there in the engine. They told us nothing about removing critical engine parts and not re-​attaching them. Not to mention the oil dripping from the pipe onto the carpet in the trunk.
Beyond «sloppiness», when they found out I didn’t want to have them work on the engine then they just didn’t care about anything. «Depraved indifference» would be a better term to describe doing something like that to the engine without informing the customer.
The auto repair is only one component of their operation, they also do boat engines, and have a retail storefront on Milwaukee Street which is selling supplies, et cetera. So they can’t be all bad, and must be doing something good in order to remain in business. But can’t recommend on the basis of my own experience.
