Business Owner

The Creative Director behind Be Styled, Nicholas Penna Jr., is also owner of Boston-​area SalonCapri which is a salon brand established over 40 years ago. Nick has become a sought-​after style and beauty expert on both a local and national level. He is routinely called on to share expert hair tips and tricks and his advice has been featured in countless celebrity, beauty and lifestyle magazines such as OK!, Marie Claire, Glamour and Ladies’ Home Journal, and on New England Cable News and FOX television morning show style segments. Nick and SalonCapri have received nine «Best of Boston» awards and twice made Elle magazine’s list of the «Top 100 Salons in the U.S.»

Came here for the first time today and had an amazing experience. Got my hair done for for my friends wedding, only cost $ 40 and it came out great! I would definitely come back. The staff was very friendly and I had a great time :)

I love this place! It’s great to go get pretty when you need a pick me up. I usually book with Tiffany she does a amazing shampoo and has such a bubbly fun personality. The girls all there make me feel very welcome. So glad there’s a place like this around!

I booked an appointment weeks in advance for a wedding I had last Saturday. I got a call the morning of my appointment that the stylist called in sick. They couldn’t accommodate my appointment any longer. How unprofessional! The receptionist told me they’d put me on a cancel list and would comp my appointment if someone was able to squeeze me in. How about comping a future appointment since you couldn’t honor your commitment? Needless to say, they never squeezed me in.
This was the second time using them and the first time I came in a few months ago. My hair came out great, but the overall experience was terrible. The girls were rude and unprofessional, whispering amongst themselves while doing their clients hair. I felt like an unwelcome guest in this dry bar. I decided to give it another go, but that was a huge flop. I will never come back to this dry bar and would not recommend it to any one at this point. BeStyled Lynnfield needs some major customer service improvements.

My first visit was today and it was awesome! My stylist was wonderfully accommodating and she was very patient and kind as I removed and replaced my hearing aids before and after the hair washing and blowdry. All of their hair products are nut free… a win for me as I have allergies! My appointment was with Cheressa, and she worked my thick, unruly, coarse mane into a smooth style with a slight kick at the ends using just a blowdryer! I have no idea how as I am a slave to the flat iron. I had such a great experience that I booked 4 more appointments before I left. Ignore the bad reviews and see for yourself… loved it!

I attended a wedding on Saturday and came to Be Styled to get my hair done beforehand. Carmen did my hair and I will 100% be going back to her. The shampoo was perfect, she was SO nice, gave great recommendations for what would look best especially with the dress I would be wearing, and she did a great job on the blowout and style. I will definitely be coming back to Be Styled and will absolutely be requesting Carmen. Thank you!!!

Do not waste your money going here. I do a much better job styling my own hair. They used a small roller brush that left my hair totally flat. Staff was rude and unfriendly. Not sure how this place is staying in business. When I told stylist I was not happy with result, she did nothing, not even an apology!

I had a real awful experience at this place. First off the staff are not very friendly. Girls behind the counter were all on their cell phones and didn’t even acknowledge me at first. Not for nothing, the water was ICE COLD while they were washing my hair. The girl said its been like that for a few weeks… but they should have mentioned this problem to customers beforehand. The girl DID do a good job on my hair, but the whole time i hear the other girls gossiping and such. Def not a professional environment. The manager of this place should definitely re-​train staff on customer service and professionalism.

today i finally went back for my complimentary visit. i was pleasantly surprised. everything was great. the receptionist was friendly, my stylist had a wonderful personality. the wash was fantastic and relaxing. my stylist looked at picture of my hair styled the way i like it, and did a perfect job. it was quick and easy. i’m glad i went back.
i think what i learned is that everyone deserves another chance. if at first you are unhappy, it’s worth another try. i think i’d stick with the same stylist though, just to make sure!

I’d like to start off by saying I think blow dry bars should be everywhere ! Who doesn’t love to get a great blow out !?
I’ve been to Be Styled 9 times since they opened in Lynnfield, I have yet to have a bad experience. First time in I had Alaina, she is amazing; true stylist. She takes the time to listen to how you want your hair styled, and ALWAYS over delivers; I love when she spun me around to take a look and I loved it ! When I book other appointments and I see she isn’t available I get bummed, but have tried a few other girls and they were good too !
Yes, the shampoo part is quick; but ladies this isn’t Shampoo Bar — it’s a Blow Dry Bar, and they are trying to get you in & out so you aren’t sitting there all day.
I do agree that the girls at the front desk need a bit of a reality check ! When you walk in they don’t acknowledge you, now remember I’ve been there 9 times; all 9 I’ve waited at least 10 min for them to say «do you have an appointment?». Normally, this would drive me bonkers, but Alaina is truly saving their behinds because without her I probably wouldn’t return. Also, be prepared because they will ask you a million times of you are thirsty and need a beverage, like parrots squawking in your ear ! Truly, gets annoying; but my guess is that is the only possible customer service those front desk girls know.
I recommend to my girlfriends to pop in and try it out, book first !

Well the saying a leopard cannot change its spots does not correlate with good customer service. I visited Be Styled today for its convenience in location but was pleasantly surprised in the improvement in customer service. Both the front desk and my stylist were friendly, accommodating and attentive. My next visit back will be for more than just the convenience.

Honestly. I almost left in tears. My hair was curled with extensions put in it. when I asked for it straight. The stylist responded by saying your hair is too short to put in extensions. Ill curl it for you. My curls looked horrendous. I sent the picture to my friend whom honestly laughed aloud and said i looked like mop. WHICH I DID. I also got my makeup done. and when i turned around I had to fight back tears. They lined my eyes with black almost down to my cheek bone. I looked like Marilyn Manson. I literally went home brushed out my hair and straightned it & took off my entire face of makeup off and re did it myself. I must say some of the staff was friendly. The front desk girl and the makeup artist were nice and the free champagne was a nice touch but they literally have no idea what theyre doing

I had a great experience here. Janae was super professional, sweet, and funny. Plus my hair came out great. They have comfy chairs and you can pick your hairstyle from a selection of images on an iPad. I’ll def. be back.

I’ve been here a few times. 2 out of 3 were good experiences. However the last time I went I was not too happy with the result. The first two times were good (not the best blow dry I’ve had) but I did enjoy the pampering. I love the Kerastase products they use to wash. And I like how they offer you a beverage during your blow dry. The last time I went though the stylist pulled my hair a lot and it was actually uncomfortable. I have pretty straight forward hair so this typically isn’t an issue for me. There are definitely other blow dry «bars» in the area that I prefer.

Don’t bother. I made an appointment on a Monday for a Saturday at 11 am. I had a wedding that day at 2 pm… I get a call at 10:30 on Saturday morning from the salon saying their stylist called out and they could no longer take me. Seriously? Life happens, employees call out but you NEVER call a customer a HALF HOUR before their appointment and pretty much say «woops sorry». I ended up calling Oro Salon in Stoneham, told them the whole thing and they told me to come in right away. Oro was amazing. They were so professional and did an unbelievable job on my hair.
Dont waste your time here. Go to Oro Salon on Franklin St in Stoneham!

This was a really bad experience and I will never go again. I got in and the woman at the reception desk was on the phone and instead of telling the person on the phone to hold on for a minute like a normal customer reception person would do, I had to sit and wait ten minutes before she even acknowledge my presence. I would take it personally but then she did the SAME THING to the next customer.
The actual wash was fine, despite the fact that she kept splashing water in my eyes and then removed the towel so that my sopping hair was ruing my tshirt (isn’t this common hair salon practice to give you a new towel??).
When the blow drying started, i got a pit in my stomach. i have thick wavy hair that needs to be blow out with a round brush for each layer. Instead, the hairdresser blew out the hair overall, likely resulting in frizz though I wouldn’t know because there was no mirror. Then she used the round brush on huge chunks (consequently skipping whole layers of hair) and then used the flat iron. i could tell just be feeling it that she had left entire hair sections curly and frizzy and asked her to redo it. she went over the bottom a couple for times and then asked if I wanted a hair spray (why? so i could have poofy helmet hair???)
I left feeling upset and like i wasted money when i could have done a better job myself… definitely will not be going back or recommending this place.

I love this place! Every time I go I request Paige. She is really good at what she does.
I never straighten my own hair, it is long, very thick and very curly. I go to be styled b/​c I know I will be in and out in no time and consistently get a great blow dry.
They also offer you mimosa, play a ‘chic flick’ on two big screen tv’s and have ipads to play on. The staff is always friendly and there is a girl who does complimentary make-​up for you. She’s a sweetheart and always makes me look my best.
Back to the actual blow dry service. It’s a blow dry bar. Not a shampoo bar. So I will say the shampoos are quick but my hair is always wet and clean with no suds left behind. I think that’s all you really need from a shampoo when the bottom line is you are going to get a great blow out.
Like I said above, my hair is thick and curly. This is the only place I have ever been that doesn’t need to use an iron to straighten my hair. I think that is pretty amazing! I get be swirly usually and love the style Paige does.
If you are thinking about trying this place my suggestion is to request Paige and not let the other reviews stop you.

***Heres and update on Be Styled***
The owner sold the business to the owner who owns Luxe Bar in Peabody. It will eventually be called Mane & Mani and offer waxing, nails, makeup, & hair. Right now they are still only equipped to do hair. The shampoo was much better and I even got a scalp massage. The staff was friendly and helpful and I left with my hair looking amazing. I still highly recommend this place.

Have heard some good things about getting a blow out — unfortunately this was not the case at Be Styled. Really too bad because we need this service on the north. Waste of time and $$. Inexperienced stylists — I went directly home and re did it myself. would not recommend — ever.

I agree completely with the other reviews. NOT impressed. Painful, lackluster wash. Rough, fast brush and blowout. Little style, little product used. NOT worth the money. Better just to go to local hair salon! If I have to come home and smooth my hair with my own product and add some volume myself, it’s not worth paying someone else to «style» it!

Decided to try this place out and I am not happy. I had the worst wash (all underneath was still dry after she finished). I asked for a smooth, voluminous blowdry. Didn’t get close to it. Not to mention it but after blow drying for 45 minutes when she finished it was still wet! She asked me if I usually curl my hair and I said yes thinking maybe she would suggest to do it since the blowdry came out bad, but she didn’t. The only part of this whole experience I actually liked and enjoyed was the complimentary makeup application. The girl who did it was so sweet and knew what she was doing. But as much as I enjoyed her and the makeup application, because of the hair experience I won’t be back.
