Specialties
#1 rated Bed and Breakfast in Ludington on Tripadvisor, the Lamplighter specializes in customer satisfaction and hospitality. We strive for immaculate rooms and amazing breakfasts that keep people coming back again and again. Our non-shedding hypo-allergenic Wheaten Terrier, Maggie, loves to greet guests at the door and make them immediate members of the Lamplighter family. Our outdoor gazebo provides a great place to gather for morning coffee and a quick check of your email. (Free wireless works outside as well as in). We also have a paved parking with security lights right at the guest entrance for those who worry about where their vehicles will be sleeping and garage space for bicycles.
History
Established in 1892.
The home that is now the Lamplighter was built as a residence and office for Dr. George Crosby in 1892. Dr. Crosby was famous at the time for his Gold Cure for Inebriation. Doctors were not paid all that well back in those days, but he married well and his wife’s money built the house. She was a Ludington socialite and the home was a center of Ludington Society during the brief years that they were here. Unfortunately they were divorced shortly after the house was built. She went to California, he went to Wisconsin and their only daughter stayed in Ludington to be raised by her aunt and uncle. What a scandal it must have been!
Meet the Business Owner
Bill and Jane C.
Business Owner
Bill and Jane Carpenter have owned the Lamplighter for over 10 years. Before coming to Ludington, Bill was a cowboy and rancher in Wyoming, a small plane pilot who did crop dusting, predator control and fire fighting from the air, and then a commercial pilot, ending his career flying 747’s for American International Airways. (Then owned by drag race Connie Kalitta)
It was while working for Connie that Bill met Jane. Jane’s dream was to own a Bed and Breakfast. Bill loved Jane and so here we are, ready to welcome you and awaiting your call.
