People obviously have never been to a hibachi grill. Yes rice does fly off the grill but barely, and the grills are clean… Food hasn’t made me sick and tasted great. Overall for you uncultured people that think the food is terrible and don’t understand hibachi grills, please stay at Chilis or go eat fast food.

Worst ramen ever. The beef in the beef ramen was all parts of the cow that were straight gristle and unedible. The rest was your basic 12 cent ramen package from walmart mixed with cabbage. It didn’t even taste like beef. I could’ve made a better meal with egg noodles, beef jerky and a packet of ketchup.

Shoguns was okay. I went here on a date night with my wife. She loves the place but I am here to be a critic and compared to other places that offer similar services, this was okay. I thought the price was relatively expensive for the product. We both got the Hibachi steak. The steak was full of flavor. The vegetables were lackluster. I would have given 4 stars had the vegetables been better. On a positive note everything was very clean and our waiter was very prompt. The restaurant was not busy at all, but it was an enjoyable evening!

This place used to be really good when I was a kid, a real treat. As time has passed, competition has moved in, however, it’s taken a sad decline. Sat at a table near the restrooms, which I could smell the whole time, and asked to move to the bar area instead. I ate the hibachi«filet» and shrimp and spent the early morning hours sick.

We had great service and the hibachi chef was awesome, but the rice and chicken that I got off the grill was a little on the dry side. Just not *quite* that satisfying, sticky, flavorful dish I hope to receive from a Japanese grill. Also, I know this has nothing to do with the food or service, but their huge koi fish seemed really sad in his tiny pond. He got stuck in a wire and they didn’t even try to help him! But the food was pretty good and the service was friendly. I would probably go back if someone invited me; probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go there again on my own initiative.

This placed smelt like a dirty bathroom as soon as I walked in. I will never be eating here.

Worst customer service in Lubbock ! Our waitress acted like she hated her life and her job. They also have dead koi fish floating in their«pond»

Met a few friends for lunch having never tried the sushi or sashimi. After checking the menu I decided on a sashimi sampler that appeared to be priced around sixteen dollars… seemed too good to be true more on that later. The plate came out and I was impressed with the presentation and how quickly the food arrived. After one bite of my fatty tuna I realized the gravity of the mistake I just made. It not only tasted like a fishy wet dog it was FROZEN on the inside! Not one to judge I moved on to the yellowfin which tasted the exact same and was also frozen on the inside. The salmon had a slightly different taste, more reminiscent of the smell of stagnant pond water but with a hint of the same flavor that the tuna had. I have had sashimi from many different places, even grocery store offerings run circles around this place! When I asked my server if I could switch to a hibachi plate she informed me she would have to ask the manager. The manager was incredibly rude and basically told me she wasn’t going to do anything about it and offered to ‘warm it up for me’ which I assume meant microwave. I was given a five dollar discount after throwing the plate away, was offered no other menu choice and was hit with a thirty dollar check. They actually had the audacity to charge me for the dinner portion at lunch time after I sent the plate back uneaten. The two friends I had with me each tried a bite of the tuna and one said the taste alone almost made him throw up. Don’t go to Shogun for anything fish related, you would save a lot of money and get the same experience by drinking some of the rank water in the drainage pond by Mackenzie park.

This place was great many, many years ago. Not sure what happened. The food is horrible. Tokyo is the best choice for reasonably priced, very good hibachi. Ohana is best but is expensive. Hayashi is overpriced and the hibachi is no better than Tokyo.

I believe this is a chain so if you’ve been to one, you’ve been to them all. You can get typical rice + meat made from the chef or order sushi. Food is okay. Everything’s very flavorful but flavored with MSG. The chefs are great and the sevice is amazing. Come for entertainment, great service and okay food.

I won’t visit here again! NEVER! I ordered ‘Tempura shrimp’ for the appetizer. I thought it comes out the only shrimps but it wasn’t. Tempura shrimp means 2 or 3 shrimps and lots of vegetables. Yep. This appetizer finally came out with my main dish. Oh~ drinks also came out after I reminded a server twice. DON’T GOTHERE.

I ordered take out from this restaurant last night. I ordered teriyaki steak and chicken, with the steak cooked rare. I ordered ONLY the meat– with absolutely no vegetables whatsoever. The server confirmed my order on the phone– she said«teriyaki steak, rare with chicken, absolutely no vegetables, only meat, no salad, no soup». I said correct. I was told it would require 20 – 30 mins. I arrived to pick up the food 30 mins after calling and had to wait in the restaurant for an additional 20 minutes. There was ONE table of people inside. One. Anyway, I planned to eat it on my hour-long drive– that was not to be, however; as there were no utensils of any kind, no napkins, etc. The one interesting addition to the bag of food was a swarm of fruit flies. I opened the bag and I am not exaggerating here, at least a dozen fruit flies flew out. The steak was well-done and smothered in mushrooms. The fried rice was filled with frozen peas and carrots. Needless to say, I had to stop to throw out the food for fear my car would be infested with fruit flies. All in all, the experience was super disappointing.

I kind of want to give this 3.5 stars. Apparently the place was closed for a while and got new owners or new managers recently, so the restaurant has been cleaned up a bit. New plates, new leather menu covers, new uniforms. We went for lunch and were seated promptly. No sushi on the menu… The prices for the hibachi are excellent. The bill was about $ 23 for the two of us; I got shrimp and he got steak. You get choice of soup or salad. The portion sizes were very generous. I was disappointed in the fried rice; vegetables in it were frozen mix carrots and peas, no diced onions like I like. Although we got about twice the fried rice as usual at any other place… Ginger sauce was very good, steak was good, shrimp was OK, veggies OK. The chef(Tomas) was awesome at flipping knives around. He had some funny jokes and did a spark thing with the volcano onion that I hadn’t seen before. When I asked my husband how his meal was, he said it was«fine.» I think fine is the perfect word to describe it. Not bad, not great. Just OK.

Shogun was a joke! The grills do not work properly and we waited for 2 hrs to eat! Food was vomit to say the least. No apologies offered and the place is filthy. Don’t waste your time nor money.

I have been coming here for 16 or so years. I don’t know why there are so many complaints about this place. No, it is not stainless steel spotlessness but neither is Spanky’s. I love this place and the chefs. The chefs are loyal employees and love talking and getting to know the customers

Basically, the food was good, but the dining area was reeeally dirty feeling, so that loses a star from me. I’d give 2.75 if I could, but I’ll round up to three out of generosity. The place is really dingy. It’s really dark, and the entire dining area hasn’t been changed since my parents first took me there 20 years ago.(This seems to already be a reoccurring theme in my Lubbock restaurant reviews — wtf?) I’m not saying you have to reinvent the wheel, but have some pride. It’s called routine maintenance. Carpets are DISGUSTING — should have been changed 10 years ago. And it’s no wonder why. You’ve got oil and shrimp and rice flying everywhere everyday… There was a choking/heimlich maneuver instructional poster on the wall near our table that I’ve seen other places(you know the one). It’s supposed to be white; this poster was golden yellow-ish brown from being coated with spats of oil over the years… it’s corners and edges folding, tearing, and hunching over from age. The corner of the hibachi grill I was sitting at had some duct tape holding the wood together at the 90º angle. The vent hoods over the hibachis were even more nasty than that poster, but not quite as bad as the carpets. Still. I just wonder how someone could own the place and not want to do some major renovation. I asked to look at a menu while we waited to be seated and either the owner or manager ranted and raved about how reasonable the prices were compared to the competition. ‘They have to pay higher rent,’ he said. Yeah? Well maybe put a couple grand into some carpet and overall maintenance. What complacency. Even their little koi pond area that was so cool as a kid, loses any vestige of that childhood wonder because of the grunge — for example, there’s a fake fern plant hanging above it that’s so dusty, it’s grey, not really green. Just have a little pride in your restaurant. Is that so much to ask? Anyway — the food. The clear soup at the beginning is always good, and apparently pretty hard to mess up. The house dressing on the salad is nice. The salad is even iceberg and for some reason it didn’t really bother me on this salad. I’m usually no fan of iceberg, to say the least. For my entrée I got steak and shrimp. The kid can cook. The fried rice was great, the shrimp was perfect, and the vegetables were fantastic. The steak was good, my only criticism of it was that it could maybe have used a higher temp for cooking, as I didn’t get much of a nice sear/crust. I got it medium rare and so it was just kind of a dull finish to the outside. But it was a nice, tender med.rare. The service wasn’t bad either. What strikes me is that my waitress didn’t stand out. That means she did her job, but wasn’t outstanding for any reason either. The chef wasn’t that enthusiastic(seemed kinda burned out, just going through the motions) but was friendly enough. I tipped ‘em pretty well since there were two and they exceeded my expectations. It’s not their fault the owner is letting the place rot.

Me and my cousin randomly decided to try this place out. BIG mistake. We came in at about 8:30. As soon as we walked in, I noticed the samurai armor. «Pretty cool» I thought to myself. The hostess sat us down and we waited for our waiter. I immediately noticed that the table was filthy! Fried rice and other left over food scraps covered the table! The hostess sat three nurses who probably just got off work on our table as well. They didn’t seem to notice the mess on our table probably because they were dead tired. A few minutes later the waiter came and took our orders. As the chef was cooking for us my cousin started talking to him. He told us about how he was recently pulled over by the police, and how he had weed in his car! I looked at the nurses to see their reaction, but they were busy conversing among themselves. The only time we saw our waiter was when he came to give us our ticket. Overall bad experience.

I came here with a few girlfriends and we had a very good experience. I ordered the habachi shrimp with fried rice and it was excellent and only for $ 15 which is absurdly cheap for a habachi place. Our cook was very nice and extra generous with the portions he cooked us. Soup and a small salad came with our meal as well so you definitely get your money’s worth in every aspect. Go here! You’ll enjoy it.
