Gary’s Ice Cream

I think Gary’s is at least ok, maybe more, so I’ll give it 4 stars.
It’s good, homemade ice cream. I think the prices are fair, maybe not cheap, for the portions sizes. It’s right across from the park on the Merrimack river. They have plenty of parking and there’s another parking lot for the park on the river that’s right across the street.

Gary’s has two locations, one on my way to work (Chelmsford) and one near my house (Lowell). I prefer the Lowell location, because it is just across the river, and next to a small shady park. Careful, though, around dusk, the mosquitoes are non-​stop.
The ice cream itself is great, homemade and comes in many many flavors. I always try to grab the peppermint stick when it’s available. Banana splits are huge, and covered with homemade hot fudge, if that’s your deal. My boyfriend goes nuts over their raspberry– and cherry-​lime rickeys.
It’s a good place to stop, grab a cone and wander down the river.
