The REXISCLOSED! The new name is Madera’s Grill and unfortunately they don’t have their own Unilocal page yet. From the moment you walk in they have deceived you because they haven’t taken down the old Rex sign. That should have been our first red flag as what proud owner or Chef would ride the coattails of a previous restaurant? Madera’s is lost or out of place to say the least. Old town Louisville, overall, is not Boulder. While we can appreciate good food and beer, Old town Louisville is not where most consumers go for«fine dining.» A patio suggests beer and burgers to me NOT $ 125 bottles of wine and food in the $ 25-$ 50 dollar a plate range. Seriously? Call me cheap, I walked into that place expecting cheap beer and a good burger. Instead, from the mouth, of the waiter we walked into a «fine dining» restaurant with a «relaxed environment.» Lol, again this restaurant is lost. I’ve had better service and food at Outback Steakhouse. We had two poorly cooked burgers and poor service. We won’t EVER be back and we would NEVER suggest this to our richest of friends… also NOT kid friendly but they know that. To the kind but confused wait staff — Madera’s will not survive the summer, find yourself a new job.

The Rex… interesting. Great building and location. But everything is over priced. Things on the menu have additional charges that they don’t list. Beer is more expensive for something you can get anywhere else. They have outdoor seating and a cool upstairs, bar but it lacks real draw.

Great burger and fries, the area is full of great restaurants and this one is no exception. Good beer and vegetarian selection as well.

I’ve came here a few months ago and had the best grilled cheese and tomato soup combo of my life. Went again yesterday with the family in tow and was sorely disappointed. There was a bit of a wait but this was fine as there was a family event going on in town. Once we were seated, our waitress got our drink orders but then we never saw her again until she came with the check. Yes you heard right…1 hour later! After sitting for 15 min with no service we snagged a manager to take our order. Sadly the grilled cheese isn’t in the new menu, and the manager made absolutely no offer to make one(hello, unless you ran out of cheese, this is called good service). My husband went up to the bar to get a beer because we still never saw our server OR the manager again. Disturbing that the manager was completely unbothered by all of this.
Anyway. We got our food after about 45 min. It was good, but not nearly good enough to overcome really shoddy service. Next time bypass this place and head across the street. Until the new management gets service worked out, I’ll be avoiding the Rex.

Gave this place another try for brunch and to watch some football. I will admit it was better than the last time. I had the eggs Benedict that, while edible and pleasing, was VERY salty. I mean unnaturally salty. Luckily I have a blood sodium deficiency. My boyfriend had the chicken sandwich and fries to which there were no complaints. Delicious fries! Some of the best I’ve had in L-ville. And the NFL Sunday Ticket is always necessary for watching Bills games.

For starters, the rooftop deck is awesome. The upstairs bar is also very enjoyable. This is a nice neighborhood place, and I sense they are trying hard. There has been improvement here over the years, and I appreciate that. Menu now is pretty good, but was not at all good maybe a year ago. However, the food could use some improvement. It is inconsistent. I eat here a lot, so I have seen great, good, ok, and poor. But alas, they are trying and I hope they edge up to four stars with continued effort, so here is some feedback for the proprietors. Bruch: need to learn how to properly poach eggs by dropping into boiling water vs using a form. Chicken and waffles should be a chicken breast, not wings and drumsticks. Waffles are dry. Apple pancakes are awesome. Benedict is awesome if you can overlook the eggs. Bottomless drinks — this is the smartest thing you have done since opening. More vegetarian options would be nice. Please get some red chile vs only green chile(in breakfast burritos, etc.) Your coffee is good. Wait staff seems frazzled often and inattentive, but you can see they are trying hard.

Great dog-friendly outdoor seating and an outdoor eating area upstairs. Food was great with a good selection of regional beers. Nice atmosphere although it took a while for our food to arrive.

Ok. The roof is excellent and that makes this joint awesome. The food is pretty good, getting better with time. But that’s not really why we come here… We come here for the drinks and the atmosphere! There are great parties too. Check out the 80’s Prom. So fun!

Rooftop bar in Louisville! I don’t see bad about this place. Nice happy hour nice view. Being higher up makes me happy. Will be back to try the food sometimes.

It’s a cool place in dt Louisville, nice patio and all… but the food we got was nothing like what we ordered. First we got wrong starters and the burgers which we asked to be cooked medium came out more than well-done. The waiter that brought the food was a little too rude and literally threw our plates on the table. Definitely not worth the money we spent there.

Worst brunch ever!!! Poached eggs were so hard first… Then raw… I don’t think they know how eggs in a Benedict are suppose to be. Waffles are the quality of a hotel waffle bar at holiday inn… Other items in our party of 8 were all less than desirable. Really disappointed! I will Never come back for brunch… They should give up on it… Oh, bloody was yucky too. I will say though that I do like their soups(broccoli cheddar and clam chowder) and salads. Some sandwiches too. Thus why I didn’t just leave it at 1 star…

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now and I am thrilled that I finally got to go. The cute rooftop patio is what initially drew my interest. When I saw the menu I was very impressed with the amount of gluten free and vegan options. They are also known as a scratch kitchen. Every sauce, salad dressing, biscuits and French-fries are homemade every day. Right away I could tell this was going to be a new favorite. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was efficient and knowledgable about the menu. I went with a friend for lunch and it was quite busy on the rooftop. I decided to try the Grilled Watermelon Salad. It was so delicious, I pretty much licked the bowl clean. This salad had grilled salmon and cubes of watermelon tossed with mixed greens, grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers, grilled onions with a wonderful sweet & spicy soy vinaigrette. The dressing helped put the entire salad together beautifully. I can’t wait to go back soon to try more. Their menu is truly unique and all looks delicious.

We managed to get here early enough to get outside seating on the sidewalk so we could people watch while we ate. Our waitress was very good, she knew the menu and was eager to answer our questions. I ordered the Rex burger and my date had the smoked chicken mac n cheese. My burger was good sized and came with the usual of lettuce, tomato and onion and a side of fries The burger is nothing special really and I wish that these places who feel justified in asking $ 10 + for a burger give us a burger worth the asking price. The fries were small and thin sort of like shoestring potatoes on steroids, many places have better fries. The smoked chicken mac n cheese is a food version of where’s Waldo, only Waldo is the smoked chicken. There was mac n cheese with their own blend of cheese which on it’s own was good but the chicken was hard to find. Overall I think it’s a nice place, clean with good service and average food, a little pricey but it is in Boulder County and it seems to be okay to overcharge a little bit. I would go to the Rex again but maybe just for a drink. I might try the Waterloo soon and see what their $ 10 + burger is like.

It was date night and I had heard some good things about the gourmet food in Louisville so we had to try it out. The environment was clean, bright, and a bit louder than I’m use to(though it did quiet down after 8p). We were seated quickly and our server was prompt in taking our drink order. I am a fairly aggressive customer in that I often have questions about gluten-free and dairy-free options. Our server could have done his homework better but eventually he got me what I needed to know. Fortunately there was a special that night that met our needs. Lamb roast with mint mango jelly! This dish was an amazing flavor roller coaster that both satisfied our hunger and our desire for delicious food. Most meals I merely ingest. I actually took my time to make sure I savored every combination of earthy, sweet, spicy, meaty, and veggie tones. My wife actually finished before me! I will be going again and I can highly recommend this precious gem for its amazing food!

The new menu and remodel of The Rex are fantastic! The food is excellent, fresh(way better than the previous menu). Everything is made from scratch, is creative and well-prepared. We always liked going on the roof in the summer, but now the food is as good at the views over downtown Louisville. The new remodel of the first floor dining was critical. It is now cozy and inviting with great lighting and large, warm, wooden booths. We will now enjoy going to The Rex all year round rather than just in the summer.

I’ve been going to the Rex for the good food, beer, and especially rooftop dining for over a year. That said, my most recent experience there showcased a slimmed-down menu that was better than ever. I personally had the steak, and my party had pork chops and sea bass, I believe. All fantastic; best casual dining in Louisville.

I have dubbed this the West End of Louisville. Good beer selection, new menu is delicious, creative and well rounded. Not just your average bar fare. Great upstairs patio for warm days, and enough tvs for your average sports fanatic. Bottomless bloody Mary’s and mimosas on Sundays doesn’t hurt either.

We went to the Rex Friday for the first time. Awesome is all I can say. I had the maple pork belly appetizer and it had everything. It was crunchy, smoky, sweet, and tart. My boyfriend had the house made chorizo sliders. He said he loved the jalapeño jelly that was on top of them. For entrees I tried the everything seared Tuna. It was Rare and sliced with a great crunchy crust. I also like that it was a sustainable fish. He had the Apple Cider Pot Roast over papardelle pasta and root vegetable hash. It looked as good as it tasted. For dessert we shared the white chocolate raspberry bread pudding. Yum… We will be back soon

Nothing special. The new menu sounds much better than before but it isn’t. I had the spinach salmon salad and it was very soggy, and the flavors didn’t go well together. My friend had the steak ranch sandwich — the steak was OK but the actual sandwich part and accompaniments were terrible. I could have made both items much better at home. The ambience is too dark and it makes you feel like you’re on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Our waitress wasn’t there at the right times and then asked us how our food tasted multiple times within 90 seconds of receiving it. Overall… Not worth it.

I’ve never been to the Rex before, but WOW, what a treat! The food was amazing and Emily, our server was excellent! I had the Hawaiian Swordfish that was cooked perfectly and presented like a 5 Star Restaurant in NYC. They also brought fresh biscuits with a chive butter before the entrée that were to die for. I’m pretty picky and I loved this place!!!
