Mumtaz Mediterranean Food

Totally enjoyed this place. My friend and I both had never been here before, and when the gentleman helping us heard that, he explained the menu board, pointing to photos of items along the way. We both decided on a pita sandwich for lunch. My friend had the chicken and I had the falafel. His chicken looked grilled, and he said it was tasty! My falafel was fresh and was also good. I had added feta cheese, which I was surprised wasn’t included already but only cost 75 cents to add. Next time, I think I’ll request some olives, too. We shared some French fries, which were perfectly seasoned. For dessert, we tried the baklava. The baklava was fine, but I’m partial to a friend’s recipe, so it was just okay to me. All of our food was freshly cooked, so it took a little time to get (longer than McDonald’s, but not too long), but was totally worth the wait! I am definitely going back!

Overpriced and not very good. I got the gyro platter for $ 12. The rice was salty, the hummus was watery and not creamy, the meat was dry and they pre-​cut slabs of it that they heat on the grill, so it’s dry and charred instead of juicy and browned. The side salad was laughable, two bites with nasty chopped olives, and the pita was tough and dry. Nothing was very good and $ 12 is a lot to pay for a casual place with no table service and styrofoam plates. Bummer, I love Greek, even mediocre Greek, but not expensive and lousy Greek.

We ordered a sampler with dolmades, spanikopita, hummas, etc. and a gyros. All was delicious and fresh. The dolmades and spanikopita were outstanding. The restaurant was clean and welcoming and the owner is friendly. Although we were full, the owner insisted on giving us some baklava to take with us, which we thoroughly enjoyed later that night. We will certainly be back.

This is a hidden gem, well worth the find. I always get the Greek Salad & Gyros. Others I’ve been with have explored the Menu. Everything is consistently fresh & delicious. Everyone there are very friendly. I stop in every time I’m in Lafayette.

I never had Mediterranean food before I went to Mumtaz, and wasn’t really sure I would even like it. Now, I am in love with the chicken pita with feta cheese on top. The owner Mo, is really nice and always makes time to come and say hello to his customers and remembers them sincerely. His employees are just as amazing, Jenny works the register and brings the food out and she always has a smile to share with each customers and remembers several by name. Mumtaz tends to be a quiet place to eat, but when they get busy it can get to be about average noise level for the restaurant business. This is a great place to eat because Mo and Rueben (who works the grill) make everything to fresh order so you will never get old fries with your gyro or old chicken in your pita wrap etc. They have a few options on their kids menu too so it is a great place for the family to grab a good meal for a good price. Check it out, it will be well worth your time!

So yummy, our go to place on the weekends for lunch. Chicken plate or wrap with garlic sauce is a must try, the sauce is so good. Gyros are excellent as well. Really nice folks, will give you a run down of the menu when you first get there if you’ve never been.

How busy this restaurant is at lunch is a fitting testimony to how wonderful the food is. The service is prompt and friendly, the menu is enough of a departure from your standard Mediterranean fare to present some seriously tantalizing options, and every item is sure to please.
The hummus is homemade fresh every day and tastes like it. The kefta is garlic heaven. The baba ghanouj is my new standard for what that dish is supposed to taste like. The sambusek and kibbeh I hadn’t had before but WOW. Everything is so fresh and hot and perfectly cooked it’s impossible to choose, and once you do the wait (might be a good ten minutes) seems like an eternity with all the amazing smells in here.
I will absolutely be back, and in force with the wife and kids.

Really good hummus and baba ghanoush, very solid all around. It’s a little bit expensive, and if it were open past 6 I’d probably eat there more.

This is a Greek/​Mediterranean place with a short but entirely adequate menu. We eat here about once a week. All three meats (gyro, chicken, kefta) are yummy, and they have the most delicious french fries of any restaurant. Our favorite dishes are the gyro wrap combo with feta and the chicken plate. The Mediterranean salad with chicken is also very good. Actually we like everything on the menu, with a couple of exceptions: the falafel is too highly spiced for us, and the plain baklava is too sweet (the Grandma’s Baklava is just right, though). Prices are reasonable, service is fast, and the folks are friendly.

Friendly, quick (not fast food though), delicious middle eastern food. Nothing fancy, but reliable. Eat in is very casual. Can order to take away too. Gyros are the go-​to item on the menu, but we’ve tried the hummus, baba ganoush, shwarma – all very good. Baklava and coconut cake are also yummy. Fries are always hot. Try it for a change of flavor – you’ll be greeted with smiles.

My kids love the Gyro and Dolmas. I enjoyed Gyro entrée, more food than just the wrap. Delicious, generous portions. The gentleman at the register is very friendly and helpful. Nice mom and pop restaurant. Love the mom and pops! Mediterranean food is some the healthiest food you can eat!

This place is a solid for being that they serve everything in Styrofoam carry out everything. Can you imagine if they actually had plates and real silverware I give them the five the chicken saladThe chicken Caesar salad was nothing to brag about that’s for sure the hummus was great

I stopped in for lunch and ordered the Mezza Sampler which is basically the appetizer sampler and it is also vegetarian. The falafel had an overpowering clove flavor and it come with straight up tahini as dipping sauce which did not really work for me. The baba ghanouj while creamy tasted burned. The cheese sambusek was oily. Hummus was just average. I wanted to like this place because it is the closest Middle Eastern restaurant from where I live but unfortunately today was an disappointment. The server was courteous and helpful.

I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could, but I’m rounding up :)
There’s not much else to say that hasn’t already been said: this place has incredibly flavorful food, very kind people behind the counter, and is in a good location. We tried all three main sauces, a gyro plate, and a chicken pita plate. It’s clear that they pour a lot of love into their food and business.
The hours are the only downside (I don’t make it back from work until after 6 when they close), but we’ll enjoy this on the weekends!

Great people running the show with this jem in an easy location… it’s simple and casual an easy place to grab some yummy food. The menu had a wide enough selection and wallet friendly prices. From the gyros to the chicken platter then the baklava all so good.

We moved to the Denver area 6 months ago, but hadn’t found a Mediterranean restaurant yet. Today we stopped in at Mumtaz in Lafayette, CO. It is located off the 287 and baseline in the bottom of a small office building.
The restaurant is casual and a great place to stop for lunch. The staff is very nice. They have a good amount of seating. The restaurant is clean and bright.
We had the gyros plate with extra meat. Let me tell you that you don’t need the extra meat unless you are a football player doing two a day practices. The gyro meat was the most flavorful that I have had and they cut thick slabs of it that are very moist. You also get rice, salad and your choice of hummus or baba ganoush. We loved the salad, but weren’t big fans of their rice. I forgot to mention the fresh pita bread.
Needless to say, if you are in the area you have got to try Mumtaz.

I’ve been coming here since it opened. Back then the family matriarch served up the food. It has improved (if deliciousness in fast food could improve) and become a multicultural delight in a small town setting. I love the creaminess of the baba ghanoush, the nicely season kefta… mmmm and all under 13.00 including a tip. Happiness!

Not very good if you expect flavor. Service is not responsive. I ordered hummus plate and no pita. I asked if I could have some sliced cucumber and the hostess said no. I offered to pay extra to see if that would work. Again no. I was feeling like a bit of an imposition and then after ordering, I was told to sit at a specific table because the hostess wanted to clean the other sections at 2:00pm. The place was nearly empty. The chef over heard me and brought cucumber to my table with the hummus. It was cubed so hard to eat with the Hummus. The fries were good tasted fresh with nice seasoning. The location and dinnerware were clean, always a plus. That and the fries get you one star.
I finished my food and the hostess had yet to start cleaning the nice section of the restaurant.

We’ve passed Mumtaz many times but never thought to go since the store front isn’t facing the street and the building it’s in looks like a business building. We finally made our way towards the other side of the building to see if they were around the way and… HOTDOG!
It’s a nice and casual eatery with friendly staff members that are happy to inform their customers of the cuisine. Bright and clean with a mural and a tiny private room that you can seclude yourself in while you eat. The bathrooms are also clean but I’m not sure if they are shared with the other building tenants or solely for Mumtaz patrons.
They have some pictures on the wall of their food for you to drool over. The menu is also posted right next to the register for your viewing pleasure. I decided to order a gyro wrap plate, 5 falafels a la carte, gyro plate, 2 extra sauces, and a pita side.
SO, why only 2.5 stars?
Well, that’s because the food and prices weren’t to my liking. Don’t get me wrong, it’ll do for a quick and local Mediterranean fix but I personally have tasted far superior flavors. For starters, I’m not sure if I like the thick slices of gyro in comparison to the widely accepted thinly sliced variety that is served pretty much everywhere else. I’m a huge falafel fan and these were not good. I’m not into the super blended batter since it gives them a dense texture. It doesn’t say that they add cinnamon but it tasted that way. I’m more of a cumin and coriander dominant type of falafel girl. My baba was pretty sour with no hint of smokey eggplant flavor. Basically, I just wasn’t impressed with the food nor the $ 36.25 I spent for not so much grub on our table. Side note: they only make tabouleh for catering orders. SMH, bummer!
I hate to give them a 2.5 but maybe Mumtaz will get more stars from me during my next visit. BTW. I swooped up a side of baklava on my way out. That’s something I’d order again for a nice sweet treat.
