Have now had my hair done by Nina three times, and she gets extra points for being consistently wonderful. This time I had a full highlight and cut. She is very good at choosing shades that match your skin tone. Now I have that«I’ve been lounging on the beach for three months» look, and so many people have complimented it! Hooray for Nina!

I see Kim, the salons only esthetician and she’s been giving me facials for 8 years now… man time flies. I love the fact that I can go in and she tells me exactly what I need for treatment(whether I need a moisturizing mask or enzyme peel, etc.). I’ve been to a few other people for facials and my face doesn’t quite seem as radiant as it does after I see Kim. Now there is one thing I don’t like about facials, is having extractions, but it’s totally necessary to declog your pores from any dirt and oils lying below the skins surface. One suggestion for those of you who don’t know… don’t do this right before your monthly bill because your body is much more sensitive and extractions will definitely hurt more than if you went after your period. Either way it still hurts… just remember to breathe and relax. — — OH, on another note, you don’t want just anybody doing extractions on your face because of course if it’s done improperly, you can scar, and Kim knows I have very sensitive skin so she knows what to do to avoid any scarring. If you’re looking for someone who knows her stuff, try Kim out. She’s a sweetheart and really takes care of you. As a matter of fact, it’s time to make my next appointment.

I was just at Palare for the first time on Dec 7th. Nina came highly recommended by several friends and co workers. She was fabulous. I called about 2 weeks in advance, had no trouble getting an appointment. She talked to me and really listened, I am in the midst of a color crisis and a grow out phase. Her cut was fast and cute. It has great movement and styles nicely a few weeks later. We spoke briefly about color and I am excited to get to start having her fix the damage I have done with black hair dye. When I didn’t have cash or a check, she was totally cool letting me run to the ATM next door to get money and coming back. She even styled my hair for the cocktail party I was going to that night. No extra charge, all in 30 minutes. If you want a stylist that lingers, Nina is not your girl, fortunately for me fast, nice, and good is all I require. EDITED: Ok it’s been 6 weeks and as my cut as grown out it has maintained it’s shape and movement really well. I will definitely go back to Nina if all her haircuts maintain this well.

Three stars for the salon. It is a nice, typical salon. Nothing extraordinary. Five stars for Nina. I have been going to her on and off for years, and she has never done me wrong. Okay, once she recommended a shampoo I didn’t care for, but that’s a small, forgivable transgression. She is that one stylist that I have followed around from salon to salon, even when she is too far away for a reasonable drive for a cut. I try to find one I like closer to home, but keep coming back her. She can fix anything(and I’ve had some disasters), and never shakes her head or rolls her eyes at my wandering. She takes your personality and lifestyle into consideration when designing your cut(read: I’m lazy about styling), and is a color expert. Give her a try, but call well in advance! Oh, she’s super nice and a hottie, too.(I’m going to be embarrassed if she reads that)

No walk-ins. Call a week in advance to schedule a haircut. No credit cards, only personal checks or cash. I was referred here by a friend. Her haircut was awesome! But, it’s one of those places that looks impressive if you’re just observing what’s happening from the outside, but once you’re in there, it’s actually overhyped. Upon entering, the snobby receptionists didn’t greet me. I approached their desk and said I had an appointment with Nina. They rolled their eyes at me, called out to Nina that her next appt. was there, and went back to reading their magazines. It was my first time at this place, and I wasn’t liking it already. I waited 20 minutes before Nina sat me down at her station. She was nice, listened to what I wanted, complimented my choice, and went right to work on my hair. I spent maybe 30 minutes in the salon from shampoo to blow dry. For $ 50, I got shampoo & conditioner, the cut I wanted and Nina styled it amazingly with lots of volume. I would have liked more attention, and I wanted my stylist to give me pointers about products and styling techniques. Instead, the workers joked with each other. It’s nice that the workers have a good rapport, but I think it’s unprofessional, especially when it takes time away from the paying clients. Overall, I give Nina a 3 because she said her expertise is in color, not cut, and she still did a good job on my hair. However, I give the salon a 2 because for a full-service salon, they performed way below expectations.
