Dr. Follmar is the best oral surgeon out there!!! From the second I walked in his office I felt welcome and the staff was excellent. I came to get my wisdom tooth pulled and was in a lot of pain and Dr. Follmar right away assured me that he would do everything he could to help me. I was turned away by other doctors but not DR. Follmar he went right to work and pull my tooth in less then 5mins!!! Overall my experience here was amazing and Dr. Follmar made me feel comfortable like family!! I highly recommend him and will most definitely be going back to him anytime I need an oral surgeon. Overall experience here was Great thank you so much Dr. Follmar!

I needed an emergency tooth extraction this week. The pain was a «20» on a 1 – 10’scale. My regular dentist gave me referrals to two oral surgeons. To my surprise, both of those doctors as well as at least 30 others that I called from my contracted doctors did not have appointments until 3 weeks out.
I was shocked and would remind the receptionists that it was an emergency.
After an hour of dialing numbers dr, Follmar was next on the list. The receptionist gave me 2 options for the same day. It seemed to good to be true so I asked if they would actually extract the tooth or if they were going to do the actual procedure. She said that I would have the procedure since I already had the X-​rays and referral.
In all honesty it made me wonder how can he have two open spots… did it mean he was not in demand? Not a good dentist? Of course I still booked it since I did Not seem to have options. (Keep in mind I was in severe pain so Unilocaling did not come to mind).
The minute I walked in he office I felt safe. Their waiting area was incredibly clean and modern. All of the staff was very attentive and caring.
When I went to the exam room Dr Follmar and dental assistant were very patient and explained the procedure and explained that I should be prepared for future options like bride, implants, or even just learn to be without that tooth. I was the. Taken to surgery room and he had the magic touch. It only took less than a minute for the anesthesia to kick in. During the procedure he would explain step by step what he was doing.
My biggest surprise was when he calls me at home after his shift just to make sure I was ok and gave me additional instructions.
Long story short… their practice is professional and has unequalled customer service. I am so grateful of the quality of care and service I received.

My daughter had 3 wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Kenneth Follmar Sr. a few months ago, and everything went very well. I especially appreciate the fact that when I called his office on Thursday, my daughter had an appointment the next day, and the wisdom teeth were removed Monday. Fast, great service! My daughter felt tremendously better after having these teeth removed, no more headaches, dizzyness and not feeling well. He is a great doctor and didn’t leave any «craters» in my daughters mouth where the teeth were removed. She healed quickly. I would definitely go to him if I needed to see an oral surgeon. Highly recommended! He even called at 7pm the day the procedure was done to see how my daughter was doing after her teeth had been removed that afternoon and to answer any questions that I had.

Was referred to Dr Follmar (Sr.) by my regular dentist, who was unwilling to do an extraction on a broken molar. Simple enough, it would seem. Dr Follmar got me in on short notice, which was appreciated. His bedside manner is gruff to say the least, and he seemed really impatient to get it over with. I was paying mostly out of pocket, so I was very concerned about the cost and asked repeatedly about it before the surgery. I was given a price that I agreed was fair, so we proceeded with the procedure. Once on the table, the doc notices a skin tag on the bottom of my tongue and offers to remove it. No big deal, two seconds, he says. Well, after all was said and done, a few weeks later I get a bill saying I owed over double what they had initially quoted. No mention of extra cost was mentioned while I was on the table. I found this to be extremely unethical, and when I inquired about it they were unwilling to be flexible in any way or stand behind their initial quote. It was basically meaningless, and it seemed they were telling me what I wanted to hear only to overcharge me as much as possible later.
Well, live and learn. I won’t be back.
Update, turns out my family dentist referred my daughter to him as well for extraction of all four wisdom teeth, and he pulled the same thing again. After initially paying $ 1000 out of pocket, with assurances that everything was paid for, she got a bill in the mail a few weeks later itemizing everything that was already supposedly paid for and demanding another $ 1200.
My first (and last) experience may have been anecdotal, but there now seems to be a pattern of misrepresentation and overcharging. So be warned!!!

I was taken 3 wisdom teeth today. I did not feel hurt at all. The Doctor took 3 wisdom teeth so quickly. He tried to make me feel comfortable when he was doing.

After having gum disease all of my adult life, my prior dentist eventually pulled every one of my top molars (and some bottom). I am very prone to infection and that dentist was against using antiobiotic. Crying when I lost the last tooth I needed to really chew, I researched other dentists. I went to Dr. Beveridge because his web site listed a number of «antibiotic» treatments for gum disease that I had never even heard about or been told about (antibiotic threads in pockets, etc.). I don’t know how long I have been going (several years), but my gums are healed and stable (proof is in the measurement of pockets). I lost no more teeth. Additionally I just completed a procedure for 3 dental implants so I can really chew again. Dental implants are done differently and different products are used depending on one’s mouth, bone, placements etc. The surgeon works up the plan. So this review is to compliment two stellar dental experts: surgeon Dr. Follmar (senior) and dentist Dr. Beveridge, both in San Jose. If you are a data driven person who wants obvious competency, Dr. Follmar is your surgeon. Likewise, Dr. Beveridge explains what he is going to do and why. Both are extremely knowledgeable and uptodate on treatments and both know how to use antibiotic treatments for success. The whole process went smoothly, believe it or not with my mouth, and it was tricky getting implants to fit. Had to build up bone first, etc. etc. I can’t rave enough about how please I have been. And, truly, had I been going to these two many years ago, I WOULD HAVE NEVER LOST ALL OF THESE TEETH. Thank you Dr. Fullmar Sr. and Dr. Beveridge and staff. I used IV sedation to have the surgery and just shots at the dentist. Both teams work together, and with a lab, to get perfect replacement teeth (implants). I am the kind of patient who went to my surgeon after doing a lot of research and with a long list of questions, and even some preferences. My surgeon addressed everything on my list and stuck to my preferences as well when possible; he explained everything. Likewise Dr. Beveridge is similar. I was going in 4 times a year for cleaning due to the original gum problem and am down to 3 times a year and it’s just constant improvement. Most of my mouth (gums) are «normal» now. Dr. Beveridge is slightly more expensive than some other dentists (I have been to many) but he was kind to give me discounts when he could (I lost my dental insurance). Also, when it comes to the mouth, I learned the hard way NEVER to look for a budget surgeon or dentist. My last dentist (I went there for over ten years) was very competent but was the wrong one for me because of his belief that antibiotics shouldn’t be used. For my infection-​prone mouth, this was a disaster. Also he never used any of the treatments available nowadays. I have taken the time to write this because having been to many dentists and periodontists and a few surgeons, I want people to know of the radical success and improvement I had with Dr. Beveridge and Dr. Follmar. And lastly, I went to a competent surgeon or two in the past, but they just did what the dentist said (pull teeth, implant bone). Neither ever nevr talked to me about any other treatment alternatives (except dental implants while I was still losing teeth one after another). So Dr. Kenneth Follmar IS the man, and after a long experience with him and 3 successful (tricky placement) implants, I trust him COMPLETELY. He is actually not more expensive than any other surgeon and in fact seemed a tad more reasonable price-​wise. He is experienced, knowledgeable, accredited, beyond any surgeon I ever went to.

I was referred here by my orthodontist. I needed two teeth pulled so I could get braces. Long story short this doctor wasn’t comforting at all. He acted annoyed I was nervous. But the one thing he said I will never ever forget was «It’s really a shame, you have such a pretty face but your teeth don’t match, ruins your face» That was a real low blow especially from a doctor!!! Wasn’t like my teeth had decay or were rotten, they were just crowded & I was obviously trying to improve my smile. I see a lot of good reviews but this doctor obviously had something against me to insult me.

In short, Dr. Follmar is the man. I will be coming back to get the other three wisdoms out in the new year. Very highly recommend. Thank you, Dr. Follmar!
Long story:
So Friday night, I get a toothache, right? It’s cool, probably bit down on something funny, no worries. Saturday, after sleeping like a rock all night, hurts more. Try to eat some scrambled eggs — yeah? Not happening. So… dentists closed, gotta wait to Monday to try to figure out what’s going on. Power through, manage to eat some bomb food from The Refuge in Menlo Park on Saturday night and the spend the entire day Sunday in extreme pain, unable to eat, we’ll, anything. Toss and turn all Sunday night, keep the boyfriend awake cause it hurts so bad.
Finally, 5:30am comes, I’ve got two hours til my dentist opens, take my boyfriend to work and wait there for 7:00, stop by my work, tell then what’s going on, go to dentist, didn’t expect to be seen right away (I have a different dentist normally, I typically wait for a bit before they call me), this time they saw me about 5 minutes after I walked through the door without an appointment. Doctor says it’s definitely your wisdom and man, oh man! They are coming in completely horizontally! Like, only I with the already bad gums and overcrowded teeth would get the wisdoms that grow in sideways. Lovely.
So. Doc refers me to Dr. Follmar (which makes Mom happy cause, you know, he’s her property owner and «isn’t that so funny?») and they’ve got me an appt at 10:15.
Like… That fast? That soon? Cue nervosity (that a word? I think that’s a word. I got nervous, folks.).
Kill time before my appointment at the boyfriends place of employment, starve, sip some water, cringe in pain every time I try to talk or drink the freaking water. Finally, it’s time to go see Dr. Follmar.
Never have I been so confused in a darn parking lot. But in any case, the office was easy to find and looked comfy cozy. Checked in, filled out the paperwork, was in a chair by 10:30. Watched a lovely, scary video on wisdom teeth and the potential risks (which, even for someone who’s had her ear cut open for previous surgeries, was slightly alarming but also somewhat expected. There are a crapload of nerves in your gums that the dentist’s can’t see on the outside, you know) and waited a bit more.
I figured since I’d walked in at my dentists, and that this was a last minute appointment with Dr. Follmar, I’d probably be told that he needed to schedule me for the actual extraction tomorrow or after Christmas (which was gonna be not cool cause I don’t wanna hurt over Christmas, that’s why I’m here noooow).
But, no. By 11:30 I walked out of Dr. Follmar office with one less wisdom tooth. Yay me!
I had the local anesthetic cause I’d had water and other than the initial numbing shots and the two nearest my jawbone and tooth, no pain at all! Only slight discomfort from all the pushing and pulling and prodding and drilling but no pain whatsoever. I think my favourite part about the whole thing (other than getting the freaking thing out and getting seen right away) was that Dr. Follmar could tell that I was nervous, and never discouraged me from being so.
He assured me a couple times saying that he had «done this a time or two» and that he didn’t mean for it to hurt when he was numbing half my skull (not really, but you know what I mean.) and as he pushed and pulled and prodded and drilled he always explained to me what he was doing, why it was done that why and then showed me the tooth (in pieces) as he pulled it out. It was gnarly, let me tell you.
In any case, I’ve never been more happy with the way a dentist has treated me. He was very gentle, always kept me in the loop and wasted no time in getting it out. He made sure afterwards that I was okay and asked a couple times if I had any questions, which was awesome.
Very, very highly recommend.

Dr. Ken Follmar did a procedure for me about a year ago and I am 100% happy with the results. He told me all of the risks and complications that could occur and he was very friendly. He took really good care of me & I didn’t feel a thing! He even called me the night after the procedure to see how I was doing, which I thought was very nice.
I was numb in that area for about 5 months after the procedure, but he explained it all to me as I came in for my follow-​up appointments and told me about «the stages of numbness» and how it would get better. He also really details possible numbness in the consents if you take the time to read them. I am not numb anymore!!! If I ever need oral surgery in the future, I will definitely be going to him. Will refer ALL friends and family!

After my daughter’s wisdom teeth extraction she has lost sensation in her tongue which will likely last her lifetime. We went back a few times and Dr. Follmar insisted the numbness was improving. It has not. It’s called nerve damage. The procedure occurred in 2012 when she was 17. She’s 20 now, no change. My daughter can neither taste nor feel within a region of her tongue. It would be one thing if Dr. Follmar was apologetic and thereby acknowledging there was risk and she was one of the unlucky ones. But he was not– «Oh it’s improving» sure buddy. Yes, there is always risk. But this nonsense about the situation improving is bogus. I signed my life away in disclosures about inherent risk-doesn’t everyone. Be careful people, there is always risk. Nice guy-​nice as hell and as seasoned as they come. Very methodical goes through the video-​you leave there believing he’s freaking invincible. Stuff happens.

Dr. Follmar changed my mind about going to the dentist completely. He explained everything to me and all my options. Made me feel very comfortable. Had to get my back molar removed and didn’t feel one single thing. He broke my tooth down into three pieces where each root was and pulled out one at a time. Cleaned me up and it was quick and painless. He asked how I was doing and I said I could do this every week cause of how painless it was. Amazing and all my friends think I am kidding. No kidding here… very impressed. He calls you that night to make sure you are doing well and the staff calls you the next day to check on you again. Thank you again for making my experience an awesome one:)

Best dentist I’ve seen in years and there have been a lot! He pulled a tooth on emergency and I never felt a thing! Not even the shot! Then he actually let me make payments for the procedure! Nobody does that anymore, his office staff was also awesome! Highly recommend him!

Great !!! my son had his wisdom teeth removed. Had no problems at all afterward. Dr. follmar is very nice and takes the time to explain everything. Nurses are great too. The front staff too the time to help me with the insurance part of it. No complaints… my mother also went to him and she loved him too

In general, I was impressed by Dr. Follmar, but I was disappointed that he does not accept Medicare, and, since he is not a registered Medicare provider, Medicare will deny any claim filed for his services.
So, if you are covered by Medicare, you might want to decide whether the service you need would be covered by Medicare if you went to a different provider. In my case, it would have been…

Today, 1÷28÷13 I took my friend, a 94 year old lady from church to see Dr. Follmar. I was really impressed with the doctor and his staff. My lady friend needed to have one of her implants removed, that had become infected. Another Specialist had put in her implants years ago, however, she did not feel comfortable returning to that guy, because he was always over charging her, and she had lost confidence in him. Luckily, my friend’s dentist (Dr. Jayne Hoffman) referred us to Dr. Follmar.
He looked at the X-​rays that we brought with us from the other office. I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve gone to a specialist and they insist on taking their own pictures. So, that made me happy. After inspecting the infected implant, he said that he could perform the extraction, today! Which turned out to be good for my friend, because, she got immediate relief, from the pain the implant was causing her, and she would not have to dwell on a future date to prepare for the surgery.
Since my elderly friend is hearing impaired, and I know a little sign language the doctor invited me to come into the surgery room. The assistants who were helping Dr. Follmar were wonderful. Along with a pillow for my friend’s head, they also gave her a pillow for her back (she happens to have osteoporosis and it is uncomfortable for her to lay on her back). In addition, they provided her with a warm blanket.
I was allowed to stand next to my friend during the procedure to offer comfort, by holding her hand and I think that did a world of good to help her relax. It took the dentist no time at all to remove the implant and stitch her up. There was very little to no blood. The assistant didn’t even need to put a gauze in her mouth. But they sent some gauze home, in case she needs it later. They gave her something for the pain, though she said she was fine, before we even left the office. Then they sent a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics to her pharmacy, that I picked up later. In addition, they sent a tiny bottle of peroxide, and a special syringe for salt water to care for the area where the extraction took place.
Best of all, the price was affordable. I was so worried that it was going to be a ridiculous price, because of our bad experience with another Specialist. The Staff said it would be okay to make payments if needed, since my friend in on a fixed income, but, it was so affordable that my friend was able to write a check for the entire amount.
My daughter may need to get her wisdom teeth removed, and I plan to take her to Dr. Follmar. If, I ever needed implants, I would come to Dr. Follmar’s Office for the work.

Don’t like to go here but. Dr. Follmar is awesome. Your pain is his main concern and was repeatedly ask if I was in any pain and told that if I felt anything to let him know and he’d address it. I was numbed up perfectly and didn’t feel a thing. Swelling was non existent and I’m less then 24hours after an extraction and I feel great.
He may not be for small children or adults that need to be treated like children but if you want a no nonsense very experienced oral surgeon this is the guy.

They say that dentists have the highest suicide rate of all doctors because they are the most feared by their patients. I hate going to the dentist but there is nothing worse than having to see an oral surgeon. All that changed when I went to see Dr Follmar. He has the most professional staff and great «bedside» manner. He did the pre-​numbing before the painful novacaine shots but talk to me through the entire process. Then we moved to the surgical side and out of the dental chair. It seems the tooth was pulled out in no time at all and I was shocked that it was all over. The post surgical items they give you come with great instructions.
For anyone needing an oral surgeon, I highly recommend Dr Follmar and his fabulous staff.

No way. Never again. If I could give no stars I would.
I had my wisdom teeth removed here. The staff was really friendly and Dr. Follmar assured me that everything would go off without a hitch.
I was informed to watch this video about the procedure and «possible» things that «could» go wrong during surgery. The video freaked me out and I felt unsure about signing the waiver but I was reassured by the staff that the procedure is «standard» and «lots of people get the surgery and have no problems.»
Two weeks later for my follow up everything seemed cool except for some numbness in my tongue. Dr Follmar stabbed my tongue with the scary metal toothpick, I barely flinched, and he said, «not to worry» that they had only «hit a nerve during surgery and now I have ‘possible temporary nerve damage’» and that «if feeling didn’t return in month, call back.»
A month later, no feeling. I was literally biting my tongue during meals, lisping, and lacking taste for certain flavors. I call back and he said, «it’s definitely nerve damage, if you don’t have feeling back in a year consider it permanent.»
I was very upset that 1. the nerve damage wasn’t mentioned to me when I was leaving recovery (or whomever may have picked me up after the surgery) and 2. that I was pretty much talked into receiving the procedure. And 3. the lack of compensation/​concern/​sympathy for my new found numbness.
Now, I came to this doctor on my dentists recommendation. After swapping Wisdom Teeth Horror Stories with friends, I came across two individuals who saw Dr. Follmar and had similar issues.
For the record two years later and I have regained most of the control of my tongue and taste, but my sense of smell is still messed up.

I have gone to Dr. Follmar for two oral surgeries to get two (separate) mucocele’s removed.
Everyone is super nice, esp the doctor’s assistant Angela (or Angie — I can’t remember). She has the best bedside manner, and is complementary to Dr. Follmar’s professional personality.
They are concise, precise, and QUICK, and were really good about reviewing post-​surgery expectations.
