Smogs Just Smogs

I went on a Wednesday morning around 9am and was pretty much in-&-out. I didn’t receive the most heartwarming welcome but I didn’t go there to grab coffee and chat either. They accepted the $ 10 Unilocal coupon. Definitely convenient and effective with fast service.

The guy with a pony tail that works there is full of attitude, very unfriendly and the impression we got was he does not need our business — why go there then???

Ive been going here for years. They’re fast and fine. Never had any problems and they seem competent.

Drove in to get a quick smog, but the owner asked if I had had a dead battery lately (I had!) so instead of testing and failing me, he asked me to drive around (to reset my car’s computer) before he tested the car. I got ten bucks off for using Unilocal… that was also helpful… the breakfast I ordered at Taco Miendo took longer to prepare than the smog check!

I went to Smog just Smog on pico and the owner (he claimed he is the owner) told me to go to this store (also one of his stores) «smogs just smogs» on Gateway, since this one is a star smog check station as DMV required. So I came here. I failed the first time since changing battery. They first employee told me I will only have to pay the certificate fee next time when I go back for retest, which is less than $ 10 (I asked couple times to double confirm) and nothing else. I went back couple times to see if it’s ready for retest and also asked if the only thing I have to pay is the certificate and they all said Yes. However, when I went back the last time, one of their employee said its 30 total not 10. I asked him to call his boss to clarify and he said I don’t have a boss?! And told me either I can go somewhere else or go back the other day to talk to other employee?! Really?! He wouldn’t even check if my car computer system was ready for retest like other employees did. That’s ridiculous.
Even some of their employees are nice, the «inconsistency» of their service and info is very annoying and felt not an honest business. I would Not recommend any one to do their smog here. Plus, I initially paid $ 50 which I think is over priced (even thought it was discounted price), I found another one was $ 39 on pico.

Not sure if I got the same «guy with the ponytail» others have commented on, but today’s guy with ponytail was just fine. Polite, respectful, and nice. Not smiley or chatty, mind you, but perfectly professional. I arrived on a Friday morning around 9:15 and with only one car in front of me, was in and out in about 20 minutes — maybe less. Used a coupon I found at
which was honored. This is the second time in two years I’ve used this location and will continue to do so in the future. Only problem is the small parking lot, so that could be an issue.

Didn’t want to bother trying to race somewhere to get my car smogged after work, so I searched Unilocal for someone open on the weekend. Apparently they have another location that’s open on Sunday too.
I figured they’re open til 3 on Saturday, I SHOULD be able to wake up and drag my car in by then! When I arrived, there was already a car in the bay. Pulled up behind him and flagged a mechanic down, who told me to hang tight. Smog guy came and said there were 3 cars ahead of me at 15 mins each. 45 minute wait? Figured it was my penance for going on the weekend.
Sitting in the waiting room (getting my candy crush on), another girl whirled in 20 mins later, disgusted to find that there were now 4 cars ahead of her and clearly pissed that they don’t take appointments. I felt bad for the guy because she was really rude and stormed out.
Right on schedule, the guy comes back out and rang me up. They did take the Unilocal coupon btw. Overall even transaction, if you don’t mind the wait.

The worker with the ponytail is about as friendly as a rattle snake. The only good thing about the place was it only took 30 minutes. I didn’t have an appointment.

Just had my 2000 Jaguar smog checked. Took 20 minutes as promised. Ask for Gus. This shop is clean and across from Ralph’s and Trader Joes so I could do some shopping while my car was being serviced. Polite and efficient. With the coupon it cost $ 50. Not worth it for me to drive to Hollywood or the valley to save $ 10.

quick, thorough, relatively inexpensive.

I have a 91 honda crx and DMV said I had to go to one of the new STAR certified smog stations. The station I used 2 years before referred me with a coupon. Coupon made no difference, according to the prices on the wall, because the tech claimed 65 $ *was* $ 10 off. See my pic. No tax was charged. The price is comparable, even if the pricing seems shady.
With that said, my car passed, and it was the fastest checkup I’ve ever had. I was out of there in 15 min. I would go back, especially because my regular mechanic is in the same strip mall.

No problems with this place. I was asked one and only one question. And that is, if I had modified my truck in any way, which I had but reinstalled the original equipment before coming in.
The test took about 15 min or less. My truck passed the first time and the info was electronically sent to Sacramento. The total cost was $ 65.
I went on line and registered my vehicle the same day. Done!
Several weeks later I received my tags. Done and Done!,
The process was very painless.

First time here at this location. I had just had my vehicle serviced next door at Big O Tires and decided to try Smogs Just Smogs instead of going to the place I usually use a few miles away. I was lucky; on my arrival, I was the only customer.
This location had one smog station in use at time I was there, but I believe that they have the space and equipment to perform smog checks on two vehicles at the same time.
The smog check here was quick and effortless. The attendant was efficient and knowledgeable.
If you’re thinking about coming here, be forewarned; the location is in a mall type location with several other car repair shops. Its hit and miss in terms of parking on the property, in case if you have to wait for your smog check.

Nice people, efficient service… what more do you need out of a smog place?
