Love this place!!! I have been here a few times with friends. if you are out in Hollywood or taking friends around who are visiting from out of town this has real old Hollywood hangout feel. and if you get the right servers they will tell you all the history of the place.(however some are not as great about that, or just don’t know the story) but its a great little spot!

used to be a decent place for the hollywood elite to hang out in(SO I’M TOLD) but apparently now it’s sort of an excuse to rip people off(I presume they depend almost entirely on tourist traffic). Ten dollar beers? NOTHANKYOU. Won’t be coming again.

28 bucks for 2 drafts and a shot of rye. When I questioned the price. No eye contact and he said yes… boy do I feel ripped off. Don’t go.

The portobello sandwich did use a whole mushroom cap, not pieces, but that’s the only positive thing that I can say about it. It was tasteless. There were so much red pepper that it overwhelmed the sandwich. It was only when I attempted to pull out some of the peppers that I discovered that there was goat cheese spread on it. I wouldn’t have even know that there was the goat cheese — it had totally melted, and was such a mild variety that it made no impact anyway.

Came for happy hour. Two for one drinks not bad. They have a few plates on the happy hour menu, but it seem like it is also happy hour size. They cut the size and the price. We ordered fish and chips and it came with one piece of fish. We also ordered chicken tenders and it also only came with one.

Stopped here before seeing a show at the Egyptian theatre next door, and more Than likely will try somewhere else next time. First thing when we enter, the hostess had her phone glued to her face while she greeted us, sat us, and gave us our menus. Pretty rude and unprofessional. I watched her throughout our visit, and this continued for a solid hour! Arguing on her cell phone with someone as she sat several more guests after us. Second thing is the food. VERY bland and uninspired. I ordered the Shepard’s pie, and my wife ordered the Alfredo with all the veggie fixings. Both dishes were completely flavorless. Microwave TV dinners have made better impressions on me. our salt and pepper shakers got quite a workout to say the least. The drinks were just as bland and uninspired. It took them two tries to get a simple Shirley Temple correct, giving us flat soda and no grenadine. It’s so sad that a place with such great atmosphere, architecture, and history has such poor service and food. If you’re near the Egyptian looking for a bite, I’d much sooner recommend the nearby McDonald’s.

I always wanted to eat here, it’s part of the Hollywood history, part of the golden era of this town. Somehow, I never did, so recently, I decided to try it out since we were going to an event at the Cinematheque next door. First, parking is tough, you’re on your own, subway or a private lot. The place seemed smaller than I thought it’d be, but I liked the Art Deco style, the ceiling, the little details. I love Hollywood history and this place is a part of it. Can’t say that I’m a fan of their TV-s in the bar area, but at least they were on mute and they were playing cool music: Grouplove, Florence and the Machine, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. We got here right in time for Happy Hour, they have it M-F from 3 to 6 pm. You can sit at the bar or at the cute red leather booths near by. Service was a bit slow, not a big problem. Their menu is diverse, a bit of everything: appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizza-s, chicken, pasta dishes. Happy Hour has its own menu, a few items are $ 5, most are more than that. The menu is nothing to write home about. We got the minis– Fish and Chips(each) and shared the Bangers and Mash. They’re $ 5 each, you can also get Shepherd’s pie for the same price. You can pick and choose during the Happy Hour, otherwise, they come as a trio for $ 15 anytime. The fish was good, tartar sauce was delicious, I loved their bland of various types of fries, cool idea. The Bangers and Mash were good, bit spicy, nice touch. Decent food. Don’t expect a culinary experience here, just regular bar food. The drinks are 2 for 1 during Happy Hour, but you have to get 2 of the same drink. We tried their Martinis: the Halle Berry(with raspberries) and Marilyn Monroe(with tangerines). Probably the Halle Berry one was better. They both come in small glasses and they’re weak. I didn’t expect the level of strong martinis at Musso and Frank’s but a bit more like we had in other bars. I’d skip their martinis. Too weak. Clientele– so and so, bar hopping folks, tourists, some locals. Bathrooms– you take a trip down the stairs and it’s a bit of an orientation task. The bathrooms could be cleaner and for the ladies could use some door handlers(for the purse). So, I satisfied my wish to dine at Pig’n Whistle. Would I go back? Don’t know yet. Some charm was missing for me.

I really don’t understand the low ratings. My daughter and I were strolling Hollywood today and came across this place and decide to give it a try. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection! Appetizer: tuna tartare fresh and delicious with avocado mango and cucumber! I had fish and chips: flakey moist fish nice and hot with an assortment of fries and chips seasoned to perfection. Daughter had salmon with spinach and pesto mashed potatoes that she loved so much I had to fight her for a taste! We would definitely recommend this place, and we will be back!

I totally get why this place gets three stars. It’s just average. You won’t be wowed nor completely disappointed. This is because of the food. It’s just not that great or unique. It’s basically a glorified Red Robin or chain restaurant. The décor inside is cool, and yes it has an interesting history. But nothing about the food is memorable. The hostess that seated us had her phone to her ear the ENTIRE1.5 hours we were there. She was literally walking up and down that restaurant with it sandwiched between her shoulder and head while she seated about 5 – 10 tables. I just thought that was odd and rude. Anyway, we ordered pizzas and they were just okay. I will probably not come back nor would I recommend it to anyone. My best advice for this restaurant would be to kick up the quality of food.

Yummmmmy… First timer here — and I know it sounds crazy but even the water was good. If you’ve ever drank water in L.A., you know what I’m talking about. Took a couple glasses full, not believing having been in L.A. since 1990’s. Butternut Squash pasta = WOW!!! Steak Rib Eye = 4 out of 5 stars for me; 5 out of 5 to my dear friend… THEVEGGIESSIDE = another WOW!!! I’d become a vegetarian if this chef cooked for me every day… mmmmm Coka cola = not flat Small, so unique, cozy, special. Hostess & server were sweet, and very professional. Parking’s a hastle; around the corner.. don’t know if they valet. If you’re okay w/that, or going to see movie at EGYPTIAN, it’s worth it.

I really like this place, my husband and I were along by the area and saw this spot deciding to give it a try and we were impressed of how tasty the food is and the really good jams they were playing. Even when it doesn’t have the best reviews for me was the prefect spot to have lunch. Give it a try and decide for yourself. I will come back for sure

Just wanted to give this place full stars. We came back for that miraculous brussel sprout salad. We brought out of town guests with us and we all had the best time. The hostess was super friendly and told us about the history of the place. Apparently it was used for after parties for the award shows they would have at the Egyptian theater back in the day. We sat inside this time & got to get more of a feel for the building’s awesome detail. We found ourselves in the basement when looking for the bathroom. The building just oozes history of old Hollywood. That’s one of the things that I love about the town, some parts feel like a time capsule. My visitors said Pig N Whistle was one of the highlights of their trip.

I attended the Pig ‘n Whistle’s Open Mic while visiting LA for the week. I strolled the boulevard prior and got a tiny taste of LA’s tourism. The open mic sign-up started at 7. There was a $ 5 cover. It is one of the most laid-back open mics I have ever been to. It took place in a room around the corner from the restaurant. It felt like a listening room. Everyone, including the host, was warm and friendly.

For a Monday night, there was only 1 server, sat for 25 mint before our order was taken. couple next to us left, complaining they had been there for 45 mint but no drinks or food. The wait staff was very nice but overwhelmed. The food came and my husbands banger and mash were reheated(wrinkled skin on the bangers, potatoes were real), my fish and chips were processed tasting-not good. Cider was good but overall not a great experience. For 2 people, nearly $ 50 for food and drink that took too long and fair to poor quality. Bummer.

I really don’t understand why this place doesn’t have better reviews. We were visiting from Chicago and wanted to try a famous restaurant so we came here. People must have extremely high standards because this place exceeded expectations in every way. The hostess was friendly, our waitress was attentive and energetic and the food was great! I had the Cranberry Chicken Salad and my husband had the Chicken Caesar Salad. Both were excellent. I definitely would go back. Don’t listen to the negative reviews.

My boyfriend and I came to the Pig N Whistle for dinner tonight, and we are overwhelmingly disappointed with their service and our overall experience. We arrived and were seated at 8:00pm and it took approximately 15 minutes before someone finally approached us and asked for our order. The woman who asked for our order was extremely rushed and kept attempting to leave our table after every item we asked for. My boyfriend ordered wine and I had to call her back so she could take my drink order. Then we had to call her back so she could take his food order… and once again to take my food order. We waited for another 30 – 35 minutes and hadn’t even received our wine order. Finally I called one of the waitresses over, who I suppose was our waitress, and simply said«We’ve been here for 50 minutes, put in our order almost 40 minutes ago, and we haven’t even received our wine yet. May I ask what’s going on?» She informed us that the woman who took our order, whose role at the restaurant is unknown to me, didn’t even place our order with either the bar or restaurant, so our waitress«just assumed» we only wanted glasses of water. The fact that our waitress not only did not check up on us or take our order whatsoever — she only came by once to refill my boyfriends glass of water — but she just assumed a couple, sitting at one of their large booths, visited a bar and restaurant solely for glasses of water is absolutely ludicrous. We just left immediately after. Our experience will the Pig N Whistle was awful; I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone.

I did NOT get a kick-back or freebie to write this review and I am NOT connected with the business at all. I agree with another guy who reviewed the Pig N Whistle… it is very under-rated. The food is about the best you’re going to get in Hollywood(of course, you can get really great food at the 5-star hotels, but it’s pricey) and the meals are very generous. Steaks are great and the fish and chips, sensational. Everything on the menu is really worth trying out. Good range of beers and wines and the prices are pretty good. They also make just about any cocktail you ever heard of. Customer service is faultless, right from the meet and greet girl to the bar tenders and the manager is always there if someone has any questions. There’s an open-mike in a separate bar out back which has a more intimate ambiance to it. We really enjoyed exploring this place, and they gave a rundown on the history. Best bar in Hollywood — without a doubt.

We had a really nice time at the pig and whistle. Our group came over from the opening of Pride and prejudice and zombies at the chinese theater. Of course we were all dressed as zombies. No problem, they serve zombies too! I had the brussels sprouts salad which was excellent. Service was great too. Everything came out of the kitchen really fast. The décor is really cool too, i love the ceilings. Overall recommend.

I came in because of a review regarding the gothic ceilings, not disappointed. Although i didnt hear the beginning spill about the restaurants history as the hostess was nowhere to be found for a few minutes while I was trying to get a table. for the most part the hostess just seemed like she had more important things to talk about on her phone. The waitress with a short blonde hair was gracious and attentive, the food and drinks were great

Not sure why this place doesn’t have a higher rating because it is fantastic. We had the fish and chips and the shepherds pie. It’s not easy to find fried fish that isn’t greasy, but this one was on point. The shepherds pie was AMAZING. Great service. Nice atmosphere. And the thing I appreciated most was that the food was such great quality and they could have easily been charging several dollars more per plate and still kept their prices reasonable. I admire that in a business.

Service was more than adequate, however it was a karaōke night. As a male, I was passed up numerous times so the DJ could let females sing. Now I’m the furtherest thing from a Grammy award winner, however I came with so my friends and I could sing and enjoy ourselves. However the male DJ had other plans and skipped all our songs to only let the females sing. The 1 star isn’t a true reflection of the bar, but it’s sexist karaōke DJ towards men, and only letting women sing. As I said earlier, I’m not the best by any means, but I came to sing and wasn’t afforded this effort by extremely sexist DJ.

Pretty pleasant experience for a tourist destination eatery and bar on Hollywood Blvd. Menu was simple and on trend with salads including kale and quinoa. Very popular with the foodies at the minute! Overall the service was great and the food was fresh and expected prices for the area.

A must visit when in the Hollywood area. This place is as iconic as the El Capitan and Chinese Theater. I came in on a Saturday night for drinks and appetizers. The bartender wasn’t the nicest person in the world, poured my drink and walked away. That’s ok though I came for drinks and not an intellectual conversation with the bartender. The bar has a great setup but the rest of the place just feels dirty and looks like it needs a good deep cleaning. I will definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone!

After a long day of touring LA with our uncle, we ended here in Hollywood. We had the following: Homemade Chicken Soup with Rice $ 6 Pig N Whistle Cobb Salad $ 14 BBQ pulled pork Sandwich $ 11 Oven Roasted Free-Range Chicken $ 18 The ambience is very«pubby» with tvs and dark wood tables. I had the chicken soup and cobb salad. The soup was awesome with parsley and rice. I didn’t expect to find chicken soup in a pub so that was an interesting surprise. The cobb salad was good. I just wish they gave me more meat bits of bacon and not so much of the fat bits. My uncle said his pork sandwich was good and the portion size was pretty big. My wife said her chicken was good. moist and flavorful. Overall, I would say this was a good place to stop for some comfort grub…

I am changing my star rating from 1 to 4 stars because after emailing my review to the management/owner of the Pig & Whistle, I received almost immediately a very apologetic reply from the owner as well as the manager. I was then directly contacted by their manager via telephone. He was really concerned with his bartender way to handle my ‘take-out’ order and assure me that his employee would be reprimanded accordingly as it is illegal for her to force a gratuity onto customers by charging it to their bill. He then invited me to come back to the Pig & Whistle for a complimentary dinner so we could meet in person. Considering how humiliating my last experience turned out to be, I really had no desire to repeat it, but his invitation was generous and worth accepting. Also the quality of the food served there was never the problem, the service was… and may still be problematic or unfriendly depending which waitress will tend your table, but you can always count on Carla the hostess to greet you with a smile and to make you feel attended to. Now when it comes to take-out, well don’t bother calling, they do not take orders via telephone, online only via Grubhub accepting only credit card payments no cash. That said, I will go back to the Pig & Whistle to eat, I like the food served there and Carla is always welcoming with a smile and kindness.

What is wrong with Unilocalers nowadays? Always hungry/thirsty to write up their frustrations on otherwise good establishments. Yes sometimes waitresses have bad days, and things may be slow, perhaps not even to your liking. But seriously, this place is the perfect example of an establishment that is purely UNDERRATED. The food can compete with ANY&ALL restaurants on Hollywood Blvd. The steaks are damn good, let along the chicken dish, and the salads, they are nothing less than tasty. Also the spicy chicken sandwich kicks ass, and their fries are cooked to perfection. The drinks, depending on whether you can treat people with courtesy, are always stiff & sometimes the bartenders have some great specialty drinks too. Just ask! See I’ve frequented this joint many a times, and other than the occasional slow service(which I guess no one on Unilocal has ever had a bad day, so let’s just take it out on the easiest people, those who«serve» you, while you sit and complain, smh), everything about this place is great, from the décor, to the food, the drinks & the of course environment! Some of your Unilocalers though. oh boy.

I’ll start with a positive. The architecture is really great. The ceiling reminded me of those I have seen at Hearst Castle. I’m sure this space was something back in the golden age of Hollywood. Alas, no more. I found it to be dirty, the service was so indifferent, I can’t really say it was bad, the waitress clearly didn’t care about anything. The food was just gross. Who puts fried won ton chips on nachos? What’s wrong with tortilla chips? Those went untouched. After perusing the menu and deciphering what I was least like to get food poisoning from, I ordered a steak sandwich which came out in Panini form. I choked down half of it and left hungry. As the kids these days say, I just can’t… Good beers on draft, so I guess that’s a second positive. I would not come back.

I visited because it is an LA landmark and located next to the Egyptian Theatre. Unilocal reviews told me that it was in the middle for my expectations. I came here again. What is wrong with me? Well, my women’s indy film group saw a screening at the Arena and… what can I say… it’s close and it was open. So 8 ladies showed up at 8PM on a Sunday. The place was pretty much empty but they seemed confused as to seating us. There were like 10 other people in the restaurant… it’s not hard. Seat us. We wanted post-film cocktails. They were out of bitters. How does a bar run out of bitters? And why does this place that should really be a bar/nosh place only have like 5 appetizers — none of which are appetizing or appealing? Our waiter took our orders by having us shout them to him while he entered them into the computer system located near our table. True story. I guess I’m OK with that. I don’t think he could have remembered our orders because everyone at the table said he smelled like pot. I don’t know… I don’t judge. But I don’t like shouting«Pizza and White Wine»… and that happened. I keep saying I’ll never go back, but I do. It’s convenient. It’s open late. And the pizza wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever had.
