Cash Only. Order a torta and a cup of café de olla. It’s a very filling breakfast. I ask for the chorizo and papas torta with egg and everything else except lettuce. The options on the menu do not include egg. Just ask and they’ll add it on. Everything else includes black beans, onion, tomato, avocado and jalapenos(the pickled kind that go on nachos). The café de olla is pretty good. They prefer that you make your cup of coffee before you pay so they can charge accordingly. I’ve only tried the vanilla gelatina and it’s okay. It’s only $ 2 for a huge cup. I tried a couple of the pan dulce items and unfortunately, it leaves something to be desired.

Capulina Bakery was exactly the type of Bakery Boyle Heights needed. I have lived in this area for over 14 yrs now and had not found a bakery to overthrow La Favorita on 4th Street until now!!! The bread is baked fresh daily, I know this because I work right next to this place and can smell the delicious goodness everytime I walk to my car!!! Not only do they have bread, but they can actually whip up some lunch for you. They have Tortas, Tostadas, Tamales, Ojaldras and Croissants. If you’re an early bird, stop by in the morning and they could custom cook some breakfast for you!!! I highly recommend the Pay de Queso, Ojaldras de Mole, and either the Tortas or Tostadas de Tinga if you like to eat spicy!!!

Awesome! Came in for a quick cup of joe before work! Super nice people and quick service, even with a little line. Fantastic sweets and breads! Highly recommend as there isn’t a ton in the area, early in the morning.

This place just opened up on the corner of Mathews & Caesar Chavez. It’s pretty legit and affordable Mexican panaderia. They have mini vanilla & chocolate conchas for .25 each. They also have mini orejas!(my favorite!) :) All of the other sweet bread is «regular size» but they don’t seem to have any regular sized conchas which kind of sucks. Regardless, their sweet bread is very flavorful and their bolillos are just like I like my baguettes — crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They also make these Hostess lookalike chocolate muffins which they turn upside down, top with homemade cream and dip in chocolate(check out my photo). Oh, and make sure to bring change for the meter. a good dime will get you about 6 minutes which always works for me. And just to be safe on the safe side, make sure to bring cash because even if they do take credit cards, paying cash at mom & pop shops is just good manners ;)
