Council Thrift Shops is the key funding source and financial lifeline for the National Council of Jewish Women/​Los Angeles wide reaching programs and services helping thousands of women, children and families throughout the LA community.

Your donations of clothing, furniture, jewelry, art, housewares, provide a second life to those items you donate and are treasures to the people that purchase them in our stores.

We encourage everyone to give that second life to those things they no longer need by donating to any of our Council Thrift Shops throughout the Los Angeles community.

History

Established in 1909.

The National Council of Jewish Women is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. NCJW’s Los Angeles Section has been at the forefront of social change since 1909 by providing the community with programs and services. Today, NCJW/​LA serves more than 15,000 individuals each year by providing over 100,000 hours of programs and services with the support of 500 volunteers.

Council Thrift Shops was established in 1924 to respond to a need that was created by the waves of immigrants who had been displaced by WWI, many of whom settled in the LA area and were in desperate need of help.

Now in operation for over 90 years, the mission is still the same: to provide affordable merchandise to those in need and to support the programs and services of NC

Meet the Manager

Hillary S.

Manager

Hillary is the Executive Director of the National Council of Jewish Women/​Los Angeles. Under her decade of leadership, NCJW has expanded its role in the community; by serving more women, children and families and also broadening the scope by which NCJW does business by partnering with other non-​profit organizations in the community creating coalitions, programs, and services for over 15,000 individuals in Los Angeles.
