Larchmont Charter School

I do not have any children, but I enjoy eating at The Oinkster which is right next door. Many Larchmont families come to the Oinkster and they generally have good manners. I don’t know if those manners are learned at home or at school, but either way, the Oinkster serves good hamburgers. They also have good milkshakes, but again, I don’t think that has to do with the quality of Larchmont Charter School

I am not thrilled with the direction the school is taking. There are some wonderful teachers, but not enough to counteract the issues that must be addressed, such as curriculum, academic focus, student support and administrative clarity. There have been many changes in leadership over the past few years. The lack of continuity and teacher attrition signals something is fundamentally amiss. I hope things can turnaround.

My son recently started at Larchmont Fairfax (formerly Larchmont West). So far he loves it, and we’ve been incredibly impressed with the professionalism of the teachers and administrators. The parents are engaged and passionate about doing everything they can to help the school.
And most importantly, my son is happy there. We feel incredibly lucky that we get to be a part of the LCS community.

School is making a lot of progress. We are trying to revamp the things. Good school.

We’ve had two kids at this school, one since it opened it’s doors. At first this place was a dream come true but unfortunately times have changed. The once excited and engaged team has become a mire of bureaucratic bullshit. 5 PRINCIPALS IN 7 YEARS!!! The administration is totally messed up and unresponsive to the needs of the students. At first the school really responded to the parents’ desires and consequently the parent participation was enormous. However, now the administration pays lip service to the parents but still wants monetary donations as well as enormous amounts of volunteers for everything under the sun. The school decided to expand and did so to the detriment of the original campus. They started up Larchmont Charter West, which was always inferior to the original school and now the original school is run by the knucklehead that ran Larchmont Charter West. Moreover, they expanded and opened a middle school/​high school that pretty much sucks and has completely drained the resources of the primary school. The school has amazing test scores but only because the original student body was filled with brilliant kids from wonderful families and not because they are doing a particularly good job schooling the children. Used to teach all kids swimming… pool has been closed for years. Used to have TAs in every class… TAs were eliminated for moronic reasons last year. Crappy teachers are never fired but instead are move to administrative positions or shuffled around to teach different grades.
Mark my words — the test scores from this school will be declining.

So happy with this school. The academics, the philosophy all of it! Every child in Los Angeles deserves to go to a school like this one!

An new charter school. Kids get a private school education at a public school price. Beautiful campus, AMAZING teachers and principal, good solid Board of Directors — this school is a fantastic alternative.
