It’s just Chinese fast food by Ralph’s in the University Park area. A two-item combo is around $ 5. Panda Express, for the most part, tastes better, but you pay more. The food’s just alright if you’re in the mood, in a hurry, and/or want something really cheap while you’re in the neighborhood. Customers are typically locals or university students. Nothing’s really that remarkable.

I don’t know why this has such bad reviews, whatever the reason, look at the recent reviews cause that’s how the business has changed and improved. Came here randomly and got the 2 item combo for $ 4.74(discount because I’m a student). The noodles were good, rice wasn’t too dry and had a slight yummy sticky rice feel to it. Solid eggplant and chicken mushroom. The lady was super friendly and spoke two dialects of Chinese. I’ll be coming here all the time for cheap Chinese food. Trust me, this is waaaay better than panda(quality, price, and flavor wise). I’ll be getting the actual dishes they have next time, which will probably taste even better! Screw the bad reviews, they are 5 stars in my book! :D Came again, got the chicken and broccoli plus beef fried rice, so much food, so good!!! $ 1.7532 ounce Thai iced tea so good tea!!! I’d give another 5⁄5 stars if I could!

PSA: This place has been renamed and underwent new ownership! It should be Yong Kang Express instead of what Unilocal has titled. Well as there seems to be new management this place is as good as it gets! Come on, for less than $ 5 you can get yourself a cheap, affordable, not to mention delicious meal. I’ve been coming here for the past few years and have seen remarkable changes, since the recent owner(and name) change. Prices are incredible for what you get. Unless you’re straight-up into the white washed Panda, then you keep doing you. But this is an authentic Chinese fast-food joint with real Chinese people doing the cooking. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and try it out, especially if you’re a(almost always) broke college student(like myself)! I recommend their Orange Chicken or the beef & broccoli. Their potato strings(?) are quite tasty too. They give you a generous helping of whatever you order, quite enough for a leftover meal if you don’t have an insurmountable appetite. PS: large Thai tea for $ 1.75. A bit too sweet for me but others seem to like it.

$ 5.70 after tax for the three-item combo meal(two starches and 3 items.) They pile(see: PILE) the food on. Gotta write quick, food baby is kicking. I got lo mein and fried rice with the orange chicken, beef & broccoli, and duck. The lo mein is better than the fried rice. The duck was good, beef & broccoli was good, orange chicken was mostly bread and orange. They have a TV playing eclectic foreign programming. Try to figure out what the shows are about. Its fun!

3.4 stars for HK Express! Our church has been catering food from here for the past few years, and they do a decently good job. Their food can be kind of on the oily side, but it’s still delicious, so whatever. In particular, their Teriyaki Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken(lots of celery), and Kung Pao Shrimp are yummy! Their Broccoli Beef is meh because the broccoli stalks are gigantic and hard to eat. The Orange Chicken tastes good but there’s actually not much meat… just a lot of floury fried covering and sweet sauce. However, they deserve some credit for being well-priced(~$ 5 for a bento with two sides) and generous with portions. Also, you can ask them to give you two carbs(such as half steamed rice, half chow mein or half fried rice, half chow mein etc.) Definitely better and cheaper than Panda by farrrrrr.

Hong Kong Express is my favorite Real Chinese food that isn’t Panda Express. All the food here fits my taste. The owner chef is friendly and nice and real. I can tell he doesn’t like to disappoint his fans like me who’s not so rich but can afford really good Chinese food at Hong Kong Express. 10⁄10 stars from me. Screw the other negative reviews. These people ain’t know nothing about eating good Chinese food.

Probably the cheapest restaurant where you can get well stuffed in the USC area. The 2-items combo only costs $ 4.35 if paid in cash. Their fried rice is not well, Chow-mein just so-so. But their He Fen(rice noodle) is pretty good! Their main dishes seem never change, but they’re pretty edible if not delicious. If you are wealthy, you probably wouldn’t eat here. But for a USC student looking for convenience and economy, this place is not much worse than many in the University Village food court and you can save about $ 2 per meal.

The place was far from clean. The food was far from gourmet. But for about $ 5, they will stuff a clamshell styrofoam box with as much food as they can. I came in hungry and left totally stuffed.

It was just okay until my stomach cramped for a few days. Their orange chicken must’ve been spoiled. I’m never going there again. Don’t say you weren’t warned!

Yeah, you do save $ 2 by picking this place over Panda Express, but trust me — it really is not worth it. They’ve been gradually increasing the prices, but the quality has not been increasing with it. The food ranges from mediocre to shockingly bad. Chinese fast food is as unhealthy as any fast food, but Panda at least tastes good until you feel bad about eating it later. This food tastes okay but almost instantly makes you feel bad about eating it. The worst thing I found out, by visiting one night before closing time, is that they don’t throw their food out. You never know how old the food is that you’re eating. The facilities are disgusting. The tables, furniture, and floor all look old and run down. No seriously, why would anybody eat here?

Listen to the other reviewers: this place is awful. Even as a poor college student I would prefer to pay the extra $ 2 to get better tasting food from Panda Express. Somehow, this place managed to mess up everything I got. The orange chicken was awful, the noodles were terrible, the barbecue pork was tasteless, and somehow they fudged up broccoli beef. I didn’t think it was possible to mess up broccoli, but they found a way. I couldn’t even finish my food; I threw it away, went home and had cereal instead. Never coming here again.

I agree with Sophia – you really get what you pay for. The service sucks and the food is terrible… but I don’t know how to cook Chinese food and this is the cheapest Chinese food around. $ 3.80 for a whole to-go container of Chinese food. The service is pretty rude, there’s no smiling and they kind of stare at you so it’s always really awkward when I go but as a poor college student, this is the best deal around for Chinese.

It’s not bad. You pay for what you get. All the previous reviewers are from 2 years ago, so maybe the food quality has gotten better. I’m not a fan of the lo mein, but get the Chinese noodles that are made with rice and flat and thick. Those are really good. The mapo tofu is quite all right, and I thought the meat in the chicken & broccoli was surprisingly tender. Don’t bash this place. I mean, you get 2 starch, and 2 sides for $ 3.80. I’m a poor college student, so I ain’t complaining.

Extremely terrible food! How are they able to stay in business? They were closed several times for harboring vermin and vermin infestation. Avoid this place!

Food was not good. Chow mein was worst I’ve had. I would have thrown it away but I was really hungry and needed some nutrition and I had no time and already paid for it. I went because signs said it was affordable. I had a chicken bowl with terriyaki. It was $ 4… over priced. Chicken was not good.

The thai ice tea was the worst in my life. It was cheap at $ 1.75 for a huge 32oz cup but my god after 3 sips I threw it away. The food is well… at least it is cheaper than Panda Express. I think the only way this place survives is off of poor, desperate college students.
