History
Established in 2001.
HexLab Makerspace opened in 2014.
Hexlab’s story starts in 2001. Mike Hexter wile attending U.C.S.B. founded HexCorp, a product design and consulting company that gained a reputation for a passion for invention. Mike grew to develop an extensive background in rapid prototyping, research and development, product design, manufacturing and business consulting. Under Mike’s guidance the company grew over the years.
In mid 2013 Mike had an idea. Why not let the public into the facility and offer resources, classes, and memberships. During the next 6 months Mike began to recruit makers in the local community to form the makerspace and to acquire more tools. Their focus was on building up core tools by purchasing several 3-D printers, laser cutters and all sorts of other machines and equipment. Volunteers also brought in a variety of hand, power, and table tools in order to help Hexlab Grow to what we have become today!
