Handcraft is what we spend everyday doing. We make things with our hands and quite often those things are haircuts and haircolor. When they’re not, it is usually something useful for the salon or home. We cut and color both women and mens hair. Our focus is always on quality, craft and experience.

I have been following Russ around for years now, because simply put, he is the best. His cuts are both precise and thoughtful, and his balayage is subtle and meticulous. He listens to his clients and gives suggestions based on hair type, face shape, coloring — even your personality. If you’re a laid back gal requesting a style that needs loads of maintenance, he’ll tell you, and better yet, find a version that works for you.
The Handcraft and Hart space is adorable with loads of crafty details Russ actually made, with his bare hands. None of the bougieness of some LA salons, just friendliness and a desire to make you look exactly the way you want. Can’t recommend him enough.

This was hands down the most enjoyable hair appointment I have ever had. Russell did an amazing job on my balyage color and fixed a bad hair cut I had received at a salon elsewhere. To boot, he was incredibly socialable and I greatly enjoyed our conversation throughout my appointment. I left feeling great both inside and out. I will definetley be back!

Hands down the Best. Blowout. Ever.
I am going gray (whyyyyy?!) and Russ is working with me to grow it my hair and do creative coloring so that it looks good while it grows out… It’s really great to have someone willing to try some creative problem solving on what could be a disastrous process.
Also, I love the vibe of the salon. Simple décor, with great energy.
Highly recommend!

Russ has my H (e)art :-) He is the best hairstylist I’ve ever had, and I’ve been a customer of his since his days at Refuge. He’s super nice and super patient, and he’s done a great job at educating me about what to do with my lustrous mane. I’ve also had my hair cut by Erica, and she’s equally awesome. Hooray for cute hair!

Amazing cut by Erica! I wanted a short haircut that was fun and easy and she did that and more. I’ve never had so many compliments on my hair and I feel she really listened to what I wanted. Sorry Erica but it did not turn out well. Ended up having to spend another 200 somehwere else to get it fixed. Erica is great for cut but just not for color.

I have been a loyal follower of Russ for 4 years and counting and now ecstatic to see his beautiful new storefront! He is the most talented stylist I have ever come across after trying numerous ones in la all of which have left me terribly disappointed. I have since recommended several friends who are now loyal converts! He is one of the few stylists who will actually have a vision of what will or will not work on you and nail it. Russ is an amazing person and it is always so much fun to go in for a cut or color-​super affable. His new storefront is very tasteful and super hip. Parking is super easy in the neighborhood and he uses nothing but the best and highest quality products. A gem of a place with driving from any part of LA!
